- Rolling box?? Well yes but there's quite a bit more. This video is a lot longer than usual, but I hope it's still enjoyable/interesting. Came up with this video idea before I even made this channel, and I finally did it. Thanks for watching!

"Where do they come from?"
Well, when a male and female Mark IV tank love each other very much...
And that's how the little Willie was made.
@@randomguy21884 b-but, isn't the Little Willie the father of both..?

They were still used in Poland, 1939. While not succesfull against other tanks, they were still handy if you were going up against Infantry. I´m pretty sure we still have a working one, or atleast a replica, left over.
There's one in Warsaw. Found and fixed by Poznań Armor Museaum, it was liked so much when displayed that the Warsaw section decided to keep it =)
The last time the FT saw combat was during the 1979-1989 Soviet-Afghan War, where they were apparently used as stationary bunkers and road blocks, which is absolutely bonkers
good animation + good telling of history + good editing + good commentary = best content
*I learned more from this 20+ minute video than a semester in school* (This was extremely well made btw!)
because this is a focused topic on one single entity instead of the whole history of a country/the world.... lmao
Something something trying to get noticed
@@MrClauws History class is a joke, anyways. The curriculum does not do a good job of effectively teaching the history of anything. General history is even more pathetic because of the vastness of what they're trying to teach. It's fine at an elementary level, I guess, but world history becomes significantly worse the moment you go past 5~ grade
@@Mr_Fancypants AYO THAT PFP
@@ISTHATAJOJOSREFERENCEThe point of World History classes in HS are meant to teach students and give them a general grasp of global history, through various time periods. For individuals who are especially interested in history, this will most likely not suite you very well and cause you to experience a a year-long course that is mostly redundant. However, for the vast majority, normal WH classes are fine.
This is not more information than I need to know, this is exactly the right amount of information that I need to know. I LOVE WWI tanks, my favorites are the A7V and Mark V.
I went to the WWI Museum in Kansas City and they had a Renault FT on display, one thing they left was a part on the tank near the engine bay where a round had pierced the armor. Really cool.
This is why the FT is one of my favourite tanks.
dang, you did all this in 3 weeks? dedication to quality work and education. i have even more respect for you.
One of the interesting features of the FT's turret is that the French still used the same turret ring diameter for all of their single-man turrets into WWII, which led to several FTs being upturreted to mount a 47mm AT gun.
Great video with much interesting details I never knew on the FT and Renault.
As a side note. Yes we Dutch bought 1 (one FT before WW2) just to prove that our innundation defenses would work against tanks. The FT (like any modern tank) got stuck in the mud.
We Dutch didn't use the only tank we had. The Germans used it for air field defense. It now resides at the war museum in Overloon. 24:02
Wow. I know Jack squat about tank history, so this was a very informative and interesting video. I had no idea there were so many variations of the same tank! Thanks for posting this!
Thanks a ton for making this. I've been looking up old tanks for the portal fantasy novel I've been writing for the past several months, in which the setting goes from a high medieval fantasy to an "interwar" era within the span of a century. I'm compelled to add a character inspired by Renault himself, and introduce a cute and 'almost perfect' first tank with three crew that would be used throughout the second half of the book. I've been planning to do a chapter similar to "The Beast of War (1988)" which it'd be perfect for. Your animations are lovely and the 'edutainment' you create do a great job too! I loved that "What We Left Behind" animation so much.
The National WW1 Museum in Kansas City, MO has an original American-controlled FT17 on display. Discovered in a Middle Eastern scrap yard, the hull, turret (riveted type) and running gear are complete, including battle damage from an artillery shot.
Judging by the huge comment section, I think the algorithm finally noticed you. Congrats!
When I just realized a 24 minute video taught me more than most my time in history classes:
History classes effectively only exist now to 1. indoctrinate with liberalism 2. demonise and diminish white population 3. amplify foreign populations 4. create careers for historian storytellers
because this is a focused topic on one single entity instead of the whole history of a country/the world lmao
Can you imagine, just driving the new tractor thing and then your commander just started giving you back massage.
I mean the story of the FT17s going all throughout the world is wild it feels like those have seen every fight
but yeah generally great video too mate
Thank you for the video! It was really well made and fun to watch.
Crazy to see how far people have pushed the tank design. I never would have thought those menacing, powerful tanks such as the Panther or T-34 and many more started from such humble beginnings as a light and rather small tank such as the Renault.
It's like the bare minimum in terms of tank design-
What's so crazy about it? Isn't it more so common sense? Like it's obvious that it would eventually get bigger with more armor and better guns... like there's nothing more obvious than that. You just had to figure out how to handle all that weight.
The ft-17 is the the godfather of all tanks
This is my favorite French tank ever.
Small criticism, stop using the NazBol flag for the Bolsheviks 🤣 Two completely different ideologies.
The title told us what to expect and the video lived up to it!
Just long enough and in depth enough to hold attention, nicely written and delivered with video archive corresponding to the narration.
Good job and well worth the subscribe, looking forward to more!
I’m ex military and have a background in TV and video production.
Criminally underrated, this was amazing!
The art is beutiful, cool vid
The Renault FT is the 'classic music' of tank history. The ones before it are either war wagons or some motorised mediaeval battering ram with a cannon.
0:18 rare Arjun mk1 sighting
The FT 17 was also used by Romania during the Romanian-Hungarian war between 1919 and 1921. Between 20-25 FT tanks were given to Romania in the first batch and a few years later around 100-150 were amassed by the Romanian armoured corp. Later to be replaced mostly by the Pz 38t, panzer lll and IV before and during WW2
3:43 | 4:00 The fact that the owner of an automobile company knows more about trench warfare tactics than his nation's generals really says a lot about WW1-
This was nice keep up the good work
I found your channel a while ago and just want to say that you make great videos!
I really enjoy these videos about history that most have forgotten
its also so interesting to learn about how they were used as late as the 1980's! (albeit not as actual tanks)
it almost gave me the idea to get up and search for a centuries old tank in my neck of the woods lol
keep it up mate!
cant believe they would copy airship assault's tank design
God bless you too 🙏
Hey there, I really like your videos and your art style but I know this will sound stupid but can you do a tutorial on how you draw? It would be cool if you did!
The FT is the greatest tank to have ever been invented

Hey! Just wanted to tell you this was an incredible video on a vehicle that's importance should not be forgotten! Would you consider making more videos like this? Like maybe a video on japanese armor throughout the interwar period and World War 2?? They are so interesting to me and not really talked about! I'd love to hear how you view japanese armor!
I'm probably autistic... good content
Well written, nice visuals and relevant background footage. Great Video!.
people don't seem to get just how many ft-17s were (for it's time period i mean)
Ah yes, the Renault Ft 17, the stereotypical ww1 game light tank
I love this tank so much
15:10 And you've missed Russia. Russia had acquired it in 1918, as the "white movement" the reds got it the next year. In 21920 they'd produced it's first licensed copies called Russki Reno.
I'd make a joke about the Renault FT-17 but I'd have to put in more *"backbone"* into it.
Perfect communication system lol, if no one can hear you then at least they can feel your kick.
one of the best videos i watched on tanks. I love the little drawings and the calm tone
I swear what is up with countrys requesting railway company’s to build tanks I already know the LNER made the cruiser tank not the cruisader
a very nicely mad video!!! I enjoyed it a whole bunch, despite not really learning anything new (I live in northern france, and there's a museum nearby that has a restored FT on display, along with it's history!).
I look forward to seeing more videos like these! I like the way you read your script, it feels natural, and not overly complicated. It's relaxing!
During the invasion of North Africa, a group of FT’s attacked a group of stewards, and even though they didn’t kill any Stewart, they landed more than one shell on the commander of the Stewart’s had exploded probably would’ve been the only tank killed a but they didn’t
Please fucking remove the 17, this is a Renault ft and the 17 come from a German book of the time, this is an insult for this really cool piece of engineering made by France, the Germans don’t have anything to do with it.
I watched this when it came out 11 minutes i enjoyed it :)
God Bless
I will continue to wish for Gaijin to add FT variants (especially up-gunned versions) to War Thunder.
Why did you use the National Bolshevik flag at 15:52 that's a really bad flag to use considering that it's not a flag that was flown by the Bolsheviks ever.
so well made!!!
The best tank of WW1. Although, the competition isn’t very strong.
A brilliant video, thanks. I can’t help but wonder about the noise inside that tiny turret when they fired the 75mm howitzer.
u are awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was like why did he use chicken breads videos and then I was like OMG HE POSTED
Strangely the French also had the world's first proper heavy tank the char 2c.
the flag you used for the bolchevics is the one used for the nazbols
That’s a very good video and I enjoyed it very much keep up with the good work. And what is the song called that the end of the video
Great video man, a lot more engaging than a lot of videos like this where someone is just blankly reading a script. Easy to tell you really care about the content you're making and have a passion for what you're talking about
You 100% watch oversimplified i can tell by ur content
Ya know, its 1:30am, and I shouldddddddd be doing my history homework, but this is much more important history (I took notes, Im ready for the french pop quiz o7)
FT-17 Feels like an M1911 who are timeless.
MBT ( main battle tank ) is FT-17 but better and has different colours shape and performance
When he said that it was very loud, I thought the captain would kick the driver to do stuff and i was right
0:08 Mark IV
Liked the video and thank you for putting links for the sources down in the description.
This is so cool.
The FT 17 has so many different variants it’s honestly honestly kind of silly
HELLO CHICKENBREAD I LOVE YOU :D
Excellent 👌🏼
I agree, very, very good.
This is probably the best video you’ve done
Please make more vids like this
You sound so unconfident of what you're saying
Thank yoi for making the scale fit phones
"Battlefield 1 players liked that..."
Goofy night goofy? Goofy. Goofy goofy goofy goofy goofy goofy goofy goofy goody
Could you talk about the t-20 kosomolets
This video is actually very Informative. I know that the Renault Ft is sometimes considered as the blueprint for modern tanks, and how bad the condition is inside to the point of the people manning these tank has to make a new form of communication for each other, but what i didn't know is the oil seal. Like it's very late in the war, where tanks and flamethrowers were used to flush out infantries and people manning the tanks, bunkers, etc. if oil is just leaking inside AND outside your tank, won't it just engulf in flames?
Good point! I imagine the FT would have kept men with heavy flame throwers at a safe distance. Even if one managed to get close enough, the dirt and mud stuck to the oil probably would've lessened the effect of the flame. Great comment!
France in ww1 probably had more tank models then any other nations
French boi and french gurl
This is gonna go viral in the tank community
this tank was so good it even has a swing inside of it!
für mich ist dies nicht der erste Panzer, sondern der erste Panzer mit einer Turmdrehung
In a way the FT17 also was the predecessor to most WW2 tanks. Whilst the other WW1 tanks mentioned in this video were made for breaking through the deadlock of trench warfare, the FT was intended to be mobile enough to actually exploit a breakthrough and advance quick enough the enemy can't just build another set of trenches a bit further behind. And WW2's "Blitzkrieg" was all about using that speed to advance fast enough the enemy has problems to organise a good defense in time. Whilst we built heavy tanks after WW1, they were always more mobile than the rolling bunkers of WW1
Now do another tank
best tank ever made
Lovely stuff!

The Renault FT deserves more love.
Thank you for this amazing video,
I truly enjoyed these 24 minutes about my favorite tank ;)
i love your art
ft 17? why 0:04
Cute little animations long form content and Tank History? You sir, have earned my subscription!
FT is CUTE
I wasn't expecting the tone to become emotional but I too would love to hear the century worth of story those little tanks would carry. Imagine being in an Abrams in Afghanistan and at a crossroad you find one of those little rusty veteran.
people really forget how influential Renault is even nowadays they are basically on top of car manufacturing
No first thing i thought of was KV-2
Supposably the Renault was more well armored as the mark 4 had 19mm of armor frontaly
