WOW!!!!! What a toad Croaker......The thing I like most about your videos is not only all the great information but also the STRIKES!!!! Seeing that rod tip reaction to the strike....great camera work Bro!!
haha thank you Leonard! Yes, I feel like that's one of the most exciting parts of fishing and while I seem to always make mistakes, I do put a lot of effort in trying to get the strike on camera. So thank you for pointing that out. Wishing you a terrific week!!!
What a massive croaker for this area holy crap, could totally see how you though it was a halibut by the tail. Congrats man I hope you enjoyed that guy
Ahhh yes, 100%. It's really all about just being out there hunting, spending time with friends, and enjoying nature. Everything else is a bonus...tho the bonus is what I personally dream of lol
Wow this is great my setup for the surf is either a 6-7 foot rod light to medium light and cast it out but places like San Onofre where i go a lot you have to bring a deep sea rod because if your round isn’t strong enough against the rocks, your rod and your line breaks. You need like 50 pound line at least. Suggested braid. Needs tons of hooks and weights too. Those are common losses. 11 foot surf rods work too.
Generally speaking lighter/brighter colors like the Cherry Berry or Spanish Mackerel. I wouldn't say they're my go-to I guess. I'm almost always throwing something baitfish with a pink bottom.
Anyone know what reel he is using? tried finding it on his amazon page but dont think he has it linked. NVM think it is the Daiwa Certate. Great videos, keep them coming!
I just spent 4 days on Coronado Island (Silver Strand State Beach) and fished 3 days, each for 2 hours during the incoming tide. Day 1: 6 Perch, 4 descent size. Day 2: 9 Perch, 5 descent size. Day 3: 12 Perch, 9 descent size. On Day 3, a HUGE Halibut tried 3 times to grab my fish as I was about to pull them out of the water, sooooooo I switched my rig to a Halibut swim bait. On the THIRD cast BAMM! The halibut took the bait. After a short fight, I made a rookie mistake of trying to lift him out of the water instead of dragging him with the wave onto the shore. He wiggled his head and let go. He got away! 😮😂. I had him at my feet and it was clearly a keeper. If I had to guess (without fabricating) I’d say he was around 24”-28”inches. On Day 2, I taught a guy how to rig up and he wound up catching a keeper Halibut! Oh well. I re-rigged my Carolina rig and finished catching Perch. The bites were HOT. I had to stop in order to pack up as we had to be out by noon. 😞 Oh, a large BatRay kept swimming around my legs while I fished the third day. Interestingly, nothing bit on jerk baits. I tried them all. They ONLY liked (loved) the 1 1/2” Crappie Sliders (Pumpkin). These were, hands down, my best shore fishing days ever. They exceeded all of my expectations.
No, I don't bring a scale with me. For whatever reason, I measure the fish I catch by length and not weight. But I think it was pretty close to 5 pounds easy. Tight lines!!
I totally agree Eugene, YFC are totally underrated. Even for myself, I didn't give them credit for a few years but now they are one of my favorite fish to catch. Plentiful and aggressive!
Let me know I got a good spot in Huntington Beach off of Bolsa Chica just can't tell you the street and less hit me up and we can hit it real good and do some good fishing for halibut you live in Kroger corbina and even white sea bass sometimes it's just ahead of mess with them when the hell of it around the whitespace are also around
haha yea they get really fun if you can find a school that's in the 15" range. But yea, most of the time it seems like 10 to 12 is the norm. Tight lines!
I used to think it was super rare but the last couple years it's happened quite a bit for me. Still a by catch, but more common than I originally thought. Tight lines!
