🌺 The Reasons I Left the US and Chose PANAMA as Home

- Here's my story about what made me decide to leave the United States and why I chose Panama to call my new home country. People leave their country of origin for a variety of reasons; and chose their new country for many different reasons. Panama appealed to me for many reasons that I talk about in this video.

You are a brave woman and independent. It takes a lot of courage to do what you have done. Hope you find peace here in Panama.
@@trgpanama5966 Thanks ☺️ It took a lot of work to develop the courage and mindset I have now. Very grateful to have this life and Panama suits me.
That's what life is about finding tranquility and a sense of belonging. I was in El Valle last year, a beautiful place. I fell in love with it.
@@papi7672 Now I completely understand why older people sit on a porch and watch birds 😆
Patty, Great to hear your back story! You've had a lot of great experiences!
@@mtngrl5859 I have, indeed ☺️
You described Panama as 'coming home' I think. I did a tour in 2021 and it was traveling almost every day, seeing all sorts of places. But I felt so relaxed and stress free.. very hard to describe to someone that hasn't been there and felt that. I hope to get back next year when I attempt retirement. I want to visit again... and seriously look around for my 'just right' area. Then come back and sell it all... sort of like you did. I remember one video where you had to go back for the 'final sale' if I remember right. Doesn't seem like that long ago!!
@@anniesshenanigans3815 Yes, it did feel so comfortable being in Panama from the start. Purge vigorously!!! But bring good knives, any sheets you love and garden tools if you plan on gardening ☺️ You might consider renting in a few different locations to see where your more permanent place will be. Maybe have your things in a storage unit while you explore areas.
@@Pattybluehayes definitely rent. I have seen way too many expats in videos and FB talk about how many times they have moved... I took the PRT tour so I have some great connections for just about anything.
My father had a saying: “*We know where we are born, but not where we will die*”.
I think our life journey takes us through different moments and paths that can lead us to new places and people, we never know where that might be and while scary, change sometimes is good, that is what life is about.
Thank you for sharing your story about how you came to Panama and I’m glad you now call it home. Many of us do.
@@AvelierPlays What a poetic saying, and so very true. When I was in my teens, I recall listening to stories about people who moved to other countries or spent seasons in different locations, and that piqued my curiosity but I never imagined I could create that for my own life.
Change is good for our soul growth ✨
Where are you in Panama?
Patty, it’s so great to hear your story and to see that you have found your place of peace. Like so many, I am happy for you! You deserve it. You went through so much to get to this point. Many wishes for happy times and happy years ahead in Panama 🇵🇦 ❤
@@annapaz4 Thank you so much ☺️ I’m very grateful to be here; life in general, and happy here in Panama ☮️
Hey Patty, you look so happy. Glad you found your paradise. I've been recovering at home. But, I hope to come visit in a few months. Thank you for sharing your story. At one time I was going to be a coach. But, life happened and it just didn't work out that way. God bless you! ❤❤❤😊

Wow, Patty that was so interesting. You are very brave to try so many things and travel to very different locations. Curiosity and bravery. And you found such a wonderful new life in Panama. The house sitting is a great idea for getting to know different communities.

Wow. Patty ur journey is sounding familiar. The Appraising..the RV..Been purging now. Been thinking bout Panama for 5yrs. Thx. Ready to move.
@@swellbell1 Make a trip or two if you haven’t already. Keep purging! It’s very liberating. I’m doing a video premiere this morning where I’ll be chatting in the comments with people - I’m launching a new book 👏
Great story love it. Wish you all the best. I do have a lot in Altos del Maria and I love the mountains. The city drives me a little crazy. I would love to do a retreat in your casita in El Valle. Thanks for sharing!
Altos is beautiful 🙂 and I imagine you need a break from the high energy of the city. Here's the link to the retreat information to review. www.pattybluehayes.com/personal-retreat
Great video from a strong woman! Love the idea of housesitting to start! Booked a relocation tour in February 2025 and looking forward to it. I'm definitely in a dilemma. I feel I would be more comfortable in a condo in Panama City but hate the heat. Have always had a detached home and love the climate and locale of Altos Del Maria.
@@judithvilla6026 There are condos in the jungle-y area on the outskirts of the city that might be a good compromise, close to the city but in a more green setting. I felt Altos a bit too isolate. It’s beautiful but too far from anything for supplies or socializing.
@@Pattybluehayes Thanks for the reply! Keep posting your videos they are inspiring. I'll do more research, do you have names of these neighbourhoods by chance?
@@judithvilla6026The former "Canal Zone" area. Used to be US military bases. Clayton, Albrook, City of Knowlege, Ancon, Panama Pacifico, and Howard.
I love this! That is quite the story. Perseverance for sure. Your list of what you like about Panama mirrors mine. I am so happy for you. If I may, do you have any nuggets on the best way to navigate the house sitting option? Apologies if you have already addressed this in a previous video. Buenas!
@@James-uk8dx Thanks ☺️ For housesitting, you could connect with people who you already know in Panama. You can join Trusted Housesitters, and the FB groups for house sits in Panama.
I think the best way is to meet people and get the word out.
thanks for that inspiring story
Nice. Finding our way is the adventure. I agree with you on Panama I think. Still doing research. Cheers
@@SlickSydney Take a trip, that’s the best way to get a sense of whether you’d even want to keep researching ☺️
Nice to hear your story, Patty. I am so happy you have land for planting flowers and hosting Airbnb. Looking forward to our next trip to El Valle, though we don't know when.
@@mateoneedham6807 I was in the city yesterday and am exhausted today 😆 I did buy a plant while I was there!
Panama is a good choice. I have been in Panama for 25 years now. Became a citizen in 2013. I travel on a Panamanian passport.. When I go through immigration at Tocumen they say welcome home. Anyway I think Panama is great. Haven't been back to the US in over 15 years. Too expensive plus most of the people I knew there are now in the cemetary. All my friends are here in Panama. Panama is a good place to retire. Good video. Good luck un Panama.
@@robertgillies9382 Thank you. That was a big step to get your citizenship in Panama. Glad you’re enjoying life here, too.

Great to hear your video. I'm also thinking of where to settle in Panama, question is what are the housing prices when you moved 5 years ago and now, How big is your yard, I want to do some gardening too.
@@ilani9873 My lot is 1,000 sm, (10,763 sf). Prices haven’t changed all that much. In the city, yes, there has been an increase in certain areas. Some rent asking prices have gone up, but everything is negotiable.
You can rent in different areas to see where you like best.
Hey Patty love your videos! I subscribed to your channel during lockdown and love your channel. I am interested in relocating to Panama as well as finding work. What would you recommend for a US citizen? I considered teaching English. Thanks for the videos!
@@jeremywright5412 Thanks ☺️
I’d suggest getting remote work. Maybe 2 online work options. I’ve been applying for online work for over a year. The company I worked for was sold. It’s been challenging. That’s why I’ve been trying to build up my channel, maybe get sponsors.
Would you share the sanctuary in Thailand? Have always wanted to visit, but want to avoid organizations that exploit wildlife.
@@bessycorrales2259 If there is any human interaction, feeding, bathing in the river, walking to a destination - the animals are being exploited. Sadly, Thailand is not the place to go for ethical wildlife observation.
The place I went to was called Elephants World but has since changed names, still the same bad players.
Don’t fall for the marketing bs.
I’d suggest Africa for elephant observation.
My book on preparing for Thailand travel has a broad explanation of the history of elephant exploitation in Thailand.
Oh, Patty! Thank you for sharing your story. I have been following your journey for the past 6 months and have felt a connection with you then, but after this video I understand why. You and I share a very similar story...very similar. I am wondering if your casita is available to rent in November 2024? I am working on my Friendly Nations Visa and will be in town.

But how if there emergency ? US hospitals has the best ER.
@@Endahsusi-d1s I suppose the best locations for more immediate medical care are Panama City and David. Where I live, a small hospital just opened but they can’t do lab work 🤦♀️
My wife was recently in a Panamanian public hospital (Hospital Santo Tomas) for twenty-two days, mostly in the Intensive Care department. She suffered a traumatic brain injury from a fall, was in a coma, and unfortunately died of cardiac and other complications. Even though the final bill was a fraction of what it would have been in a private for-profit Panamanian hospital, and magnitudes less expensive than a stateside hospital, I cannot say enough about the excellent care she received. Every day when I went to visit there was a nurse bathing her, turning her, massaging her, making sure she was not in pain. The doctors and neurosurgeons were all compassionate and communicated freely and openly with me. Just be sure to sort out your insurance needs. The funeral home provided excellent service at a very affordable price. Panama is not a backwater. It has excellent medical and dental services at very reasonable prices compared to the States.
@@panamafred1 Fred, I had no idea she was in the hospital for so long. I’m glad you felt her care was good and the doctors and nurses kept you well-informed.
