    ABOUT
    In this video my awesome wife Katie wanted to try making a tutorial on how she would rig up her sit inside kayak , a $179 Pelican Trailblazer 100. She absolutely loves this lightweight 10ft kayak and has used it the past year without any mods. She had made a list of things she wanted done to it and found the parts to do so. She picked up some name brand parts from a local Cape Coral consignment store called Re-Rigged Outdoor Exchange and few other products online via YakGear & Amazon.
    Wife usually is shy in front of the camera, but she decided to be brave & give it a shot so give her some "LIKES" and show support.
    Thanks for watching!
    Sincerely,
    KayakDIY

      KayakDIY , time for your Debbie Downer moment:
      www.adventuresportsnetwork.com/sport/paddle-sports/why-are-deaths-in-paddle-sports-increasing/
      In repeatedly watching the kayakers in the Arkansas River in Colorado I'm amazed at how stupid it really seems as even with a helmet you can hit Rocks Under the Water and get knocked out and drown....
      So I guess when I see them flip upside down and over it's on purpose in areas where they know there's no Rock 3 ft below or whatever, right?

    • @KayakDIY
      @KayakDIY  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mickey Drago interesting article. Nothing wrong with buying a kayak from a big box store. The problem is definitely in not knowing the limitations of the paddler and the craft. Also not wearing a PFD or having one readily at hand is foolish. I don’t always wear a PFD. If I’m fishing the flats in water I can stand in I choose to not wear. If inshore/offshore I absolutely wear one. People new to kayaking should capsize their kayak in shallow water and try to self rescue.

    What rivets did you use. I can’t find the ones with the plastic that expands out anywhere.

  • @paulsmith8356
    @paulsmith8356 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Suggestion --- Use a Stainless washer just the size of the rivet on the underside, if You can reach it. Needs 2 people, one to hold the washer in place and one to run the pull tool.
    Increases the hold strength 100%

    • @KayakDIY

      I doubt that staking like will bite just falling in. A cheap solution is a anchor trolley and dyslexia through the Ring in the trolley system. And it can be user in deeper water

    Very cool video, love the anchor setup, kayak doesn't seem very stable for fishing, maybe you should think about a DIY outrigger and pontoons on it or maybe purchase one from a company in St. Pete, Florida called Expandacraft, very cool products, I put one of there pontoons on my Ocean Kayak Prowler 13, this thing is rock solid now, I live in Key West, Florida where the water conditions can get pretty rough, making fishing difficult, but this product solved that, I also have a honda 2.9 outboard on this kayak, makes life so much easier, but still paddles and tracks very easily.

    • @KayakDIY
      @KayakDIY  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      sc1212able we primarily use this kayak on the flats,mangroves, small rivers, and lakes. It actually feels pretty stable because you sit very low in the kayak.

      Totally agree, Scotty would make tons of money! I would buy one! Notice how many new kayaks are coming ready for those expensive $600 micro poles! The only question I have, just by letting the pole down via line it has enough weight to hold the kayak in place?

    • @KayakDIY
      @KayakDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. That rod is heavier than it looks and it drops with some force. It did a great job of anchoring. I guess it would depend if you had rocky bottom or sand.

    • @KayakDIY
      @KayakDIY  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      billybrantd I will let the wife know....boost her confidence a bit. She is still bit hesitant to be on cam. In regards to warranty many companies don’t void warranty if the mounts are above waterline. If you have hull damage and it is unrelated to mount I don’t see why they would fight you on warranty. However, I haven’t had to use a warranty. If I ever have damage on old kayaks I just fix it myself. My mounts are installed more watertight than some of the factory hardware. For example the bungees in the front bow are not really waterproof at all.

    Great job it`s too bad I can`t get my wife to get in a Kayak . She doesn`t even trust a Life jacket .

      That sucks. Maybe start off with pool or figure out what her fear is. Small steps. My wife is anxious about doing scuba. So I plan to do 1 on 1 with her in the pool for a while till she becomes comfortable. Then move to small safe bodies of water.

    My first time Kayaking and this Kayak held strong. th-cam.com/users/postUgkx4k5UrhC3v_Y4hIEaXLGvHcN5a5aBmZNB The water got pretty rough as a speed boat zipped by me, and the Kayak withstood it (I expected to be capsized). The Ores are very easy to put together, the pump worked beautifully. the seats are a bit hard to sit in after a while (I recommend sitting on the floor). after reading the reviews I was very scared it'd get a hole in it, the material is very strong and durable. The Air valve may need a small Phillips head screwdriver to adjust, other than that, it's well worth the money!(update)I've gone Kayaking in 3 Lakes and 2 rivers totaling about 40 miles. the kayak had two holes and they patched easily and no other problems can't wait for kayaking season this year!

      Keith Johnson can mount flag to anchor pole. Easy to do.

    Hearing the dude read of what she should say took away from her doing it herself.

      It was her first video. She was bit nervous and trying to figure out what to say about the stuff since I made some of it. This is my wife Katie. I keep telling her she is awesome and can do videos. She even had some great ideas in the video. However, I can be a bit over controlling when it comes to videos. Hard for me to let go creatively. I can be a perfectionist. It is my greatest flaw. Thanks for the message Travis. I need to hear things like this actually. Sometimes I’m hardly aware I do it. The other aspect is I didn’t want her to say anything that was incorrect because I have seen how ruthless some viewers can be and I didn’t think my wife could handle the criticism as well as I’ve learned to do. I want my wife to get into videos...I guess I need to just give her more free reign on the filming and editing side. That is how I learned. My early videos were terrible. Her first video was pretty dang good! Lol. I think she is a natural. ✌️😊

      I just try not to tell her too much or else she will get smart and leave me for a wealthier and better looking dude. 😂
