Same here. Many tracks in the older zones up to wrath make me swell up with joy all these years later. Being a teenager playing vanilla wow was such an amazing experience to be a part of. The people we shared that time with too. It's bittersweet knowing nothing will ever have quite the same impact again.
Was great times. I remember getting an early invite, saw a banner while playing Warcraft 3 looking for testers and I clicked on it to apply. I had no idea what I was getting into. Got a closed beta invite and my friends freaked out more than I did.

Would of been 9 years old back then, i started playing probably about a few months or more before BC so it's great that i finally get the opportunity to level to 60 for once, it is quite the grind but i remember the excitement of getting close to level 40 leveling through Stranglethorn valley to get my first mount, games these days don't capture that kind of excitement and suspense, this was an experience that taught you about patience and reward and that the journey was more important than the destination.
You should definitely change something if your life has been miserable for 4 years… ESPECIALLY if youre feeling THAT depressed over wow servers dying out lol
I just started playing it again yesterday with 4 buddies. We all hit lvl 10 , can't wait to log in at 3pm after work and crack on playing. I'm on medium pop realm on vanilla classic. It's great to see so many players again. I'm in a guild with 198 people online.
@@naifuzhang9029 if he’s EU, it’s Hydraxian Waterlords. Everyone is doing Hardcore runs though, so if you die… you delete. The Horde have 2 guilds atm that are linked, both guilds with basically 1000 members so soon for a 3rd guild. The Alliance however, they have 5 guilds (soon to be 6 if they haven’t already) all with 1000 members in. Every day there is at least 100-130+ players online in each guild at a time. The Alliance have a community of Lvl 60 Hardcore players doing stuff & I imagine soon the Horde will have that too. The Horde is growing but I think the community of Lvl 60 hardcore horde players is smaller, maybe around 70 people but so, so many people are leveling. Some guy died at level 57 the other night 😢 & was immediately back in the guild as a level 1 😅😂… always… GO AGANE!

The most intens feeling ive ever had was playing wow classic with my rl friends and the friends i met later on in the game during questing and stuff. After all these years, being a teacher with real life responsibilities i still get extremely hit with nostalgia and emotions watching these kind of videos. Dreaming about the days who are behind me. For newer people experiencing classic for the first time they might agree its a different style of gameplay, and appreciated it as well moreso than retail. But 2019 was also actually fun, having new players and new ways of playing. Personally the nostalgia/fun ended with wrath for me.
Yes, and i'm going there as soon as i wrap up "A Dwarfs Journey to Northrend" because from what i hear, it's a lot like why i fell in love with the genre to begin with, with EQOA in 2003. The focus is on the journey and not being a min/max hero with 200 addons, parses, logs or any of that immersion killing garbo. No race to end game, none of that shit. Yeah you know, the reason why 99% of us even fell in love with this genre to begin with?
It is. I just got back last week and it's been a blast. Feels like an actual community that gives a damn and is friendly. Free carry runs, people throwing buffs out and waving when you pass them by. No one complaining about waiting for dungeons. People actually take the time to talk to each other. You see the same people over and over instead of being thrown into an instanced version of a town or zone. Retail may have added a lot to the game over the years, but few appreciate what was lost. And classic brings all those experiences and feelings back.

Vanilla WoW will never die. Just look at private server communities. There is one server right now big enough to play on. I don't like private servers, but Blizzard can not deny the fact that they have a game which will always be attractive to players.
There was something I watched ages ago that gave an answer to the question "How many non-paying players do you expect me to spend server space/money on?" The answer: "As many as you possibly can." Like Asmon said, there will always be a percentage of free players that will transition to being payed players. And the increased player count both adds value for existing payed players (making them more likely to stick around longer) and attracts even more new players. It combats the "game is dead, don't bother" mentality.
I'm enjoying Wrath at the moment Ulduar is super fun) but classic envokes a certain nostalgia unlike anything else. Love to see people keeping it going.
Good to hear Whitemane is still around in some shape. Back in classic Whitemane had it all. If you played in it you'll always remember guilds like Risen, Old turtles, Empire, Cozy, DoD, Skeletor and many more. If you played from 2019 to 2021 what a time it was!

I started playing again 2 months ago on the Westfall cluster (alliance) and i can literally see more and more people coming back as the days/weeks pass by and even new players that never played wow before!
On horde side US EAST a lot of players that never played vanilla are leveling up. I been here since classic and stayed when tbc classic launched. I played both. I also played both back in the day in real time but wrath classic snoozefest for me that is. I played wrath back in day to and forgot how easy and dull it can be.
A free trial needs to get someone hooked. Nobody is hooked to their level 20 character. Let people get to level 59 for free, then level 60 opens up all the content and people have been playing their character for days and days and will be hooked.
FYI: Season of Mastery Servers are closing Feb 14th. Which allows a free server transfer from that realm. So i believe this is causing normal servers to serge in players. Plus SoM gives bonus exp and gold so many are lvling up there quicker and transferring over with tons of stuff to put on the auction house.
Vanilla have special place in my heart. I will never forget the adventures with my friends back in 2006 if I am correct. We started as humans,I made paladin(wanted to be a warrior,my friend picked warrior so we all wanted to play different class), remember the starting zone,music and quests,how epic it looked for me back then. I loved to explore every corner. I think people need some new world, that they can explore.mmo was always about adventure in some fantasy world that you can share with other people. I enjoyed wow the most before I even reached the end game.
yea, the fascination of that fantastic new world that looked so stunning if you came from games like Dark Age of Camelot.. I remember just wandering around with my Orc, sneaking into the Elwyn Forest underleveled, exploring... never forget the moment when I stepped through the bushes and found that demonic portal... Kinda felt like one of these great historical explorers, because none of my friends had seen it... I called them over and we were just stunned :) But tbh, I can try and try, but I´ll never get that same fascination back that I had with DaoC and WoW.. To quote Metallica: The memory remains :)

I say make Classic era F2P with a few exceptions. - Disable AH access for F2P - Limit bagslots for F2P - Only allow blue items and below to be equipped for F2P (No epics) Keeps bot potential low with removed AH access, and incentivizes people to sub if they like Classic.
I play HC on Hydraxian Waterlords EU. Friday night we had 121 ppl online in the smaller Horde HC guild Victory over Death. Realm is banded to be 70 / 30 Allaince. Starting zones are very much alive!
im playing Turtle wow right now because of watching this stream. Ive never seen such amazing changes balances of classes, custom mounts, Custom quests from level 10-60 Custom dungeons and raids, Paladins that can actually dps, Druids that can actually dps, Its so damn good theyve thought of everything QOL changes. Turtle wow is classic+ perfected
Usually I’m skeptical of custom content on private servers. It’s usually buggy or a cash grab just rehashing worse versions of crap blizz does in retail and at that point I’d rather just rather just play retail. But I checked this out cause of your comment and it does look like a really cool passion project, and in line with what I would like to see if blizzard did classic+ (a few new race class combos, balancing, classic playable races added, content that doesn’t invalidate the original game) glad you shared it!
Stop right there, turtle wow was a great idea but is managed and ran by emotionally unstable, scared and frustrated neckbeards that ban anyone who doesn’t fit their status quo. It has a TERRIBLE reputation with normal people who have actually played it outside of the weird cliques that exist on there.

I was on white mane and in west fall a gnome appeared out of a bush telling me and my buddy to leave his turf. He challenged my bud to a duel and killed him in like 5 seconds. Our fight lasted like 6 minutes and i barely won

WoW won’t go away. I remember playing Diablo, Tribes, and Star Wars Jedi knight Jedi Academy. Diablo 2 came out and that’s the only game I played from middle school throughout high school. WoW was even bigger when it was released and the memories it has brought is ingrained in my brain and I’m not a die hard fan but honestly if I got a decent pc again, I’d definitely install WoW on it.
Thanks for the plug in NA PVP. Whitemane is relatively huge at the moment. We have 4 naxx raids on horde as well as 4 naxx on alliance weekly. With one guild on each faction nearing speed clear teritory. One does 65 min naxx on DMF week, the other around 74min. Come visit us more often :)
Once i wrap "A Dwarfs Journey to Northrend" which airs this Friday btw, not that more than 1200 people will see it on my best day, but it's a thing, and when it's done i'm heading to Classic and making as much noise as i can for it. Classic should have dedicated content creators just for it. I expect the Hardcore community will start finding such people soon. If not already. I think they will get the most viewership but i mean fk deleting my toon each time i die so lol. I'll take the scraps of their viewership.
Been on Mistblade, a private MoP server with a solid 3k population. I wish more people would flood into private servers, they're free so you can be on two accounts at once, and the Catch-up mechanics make it easy to jump to top level and enjoy the game instead of grind.
What's the horde side like? Towards the end of classic from my experience it became heavily horde populated on my server. Curious to know whether that's still the case.
Classic 2019-2020 and a few month in was the best freaking times ever, Classic was so amazing and the Community, and I had a Awesome GF by that time also :)
WOW Classic had a very real RPG element to it: leveling was part of the experience, dungeons were not that common to do and you had to walk there (there is ton of enemies, exclusive loot and quests OUTSIDE dungeons that were almost lost with WOTLK), and the lore and ambient acompannied the recent Warcraft 3. It had a fuckton of flaws but damn, it was the best MMORPG that has ever existed.

@@xMorbidArtx hardcore has been going on for just over 2 years now so I don’t believe it’s just a fad. Granted a lot of its traction has built up over the last couple months but it’s so big now that it’s even got attention from blizzard so there’s clearly a demand for it. The hardcore team have even tried to keep the mode independent by declaring a dedicated EU and NA realm as hardcore so not to ruin the experience for standard vanilla players. All the time there’s the option for both I don’t see the problem? Plus it gives the player a choice, vanilla players aren’t being forced to play on the hardcore realms… I know people with both a standard vanilla char on whitemain and a hardcore char on hydraxian waterlords. All the time it brings people back to the great game then I see no issue!
Plenty of people on the Whitemane cluster. Leveling is great people actually run dungeons and group for content. I got sick of the toxicity of WotLK so I rerolled on era. This is why I subbed in the first place.

The horde side on whitemane is x3's the population of the alliance, where it's pvp. The alliance is more numerous on mankrik, where it's pve. Do NOT make Era Free to Play. Make it $5/month. We don't want that bots asmon!!
I started a character, undead rogue before the release of burning crusade or after I can t remember exactly but the thing is that I was mostly alone and whenever I was leveling in tirisfal glades and silverpine it always felt like I was spending more time dead rather than alive and it was extremely stressful trying to kill some dudes, since then I started a human warrior on burning crusade which I leveled to 53 thanks to the xp boost and the amount of people playing (otherwise I feel like warrior would be way too hard if I was alone) mind you I have never played classic before and now I am playing on my undead again and I reached level 23 ( yes insanely good) and honestly I was having fun even though I am dying a lot and I rarely see people but at least I get to experience what people did years ago + I feel more immersed into the world( I do not use addons)
@@yycforlife5048 people nowadays can experience the game for what it was however those times are impossible to replicate because the world was different people were different you as players had different priorities so of course the game can never be experienced the way you did back then
The server limitation is what really sets classic and wotlk back when you have so many players spread out on different servers especially when hype dies down it just leaves players feeling like no one is playing especially leveling
Whitemane and Mankrik are the 2 servers that are the place to play classic atm. If you want to play classic in a cool no rush just enjoy the game sort of way come join us
i would honestly play on these servers if it was f2p. I have a full bis mage with r13 field marshal gear that is just sitting on an account I dropped after classic was over that I'd love to play on/make new characters
I agree with the free to play Classic. I started my WoW experience in Classic as well and then I tried out BfA and now I raid in retail. This idea would work.
That would be so smart to make classic servers free 2 play. I think that would open up world of Warcraft to a whole new player base! Tons of my friends never gave WoW a shot just because they did not want to pay $15 a month. So many new players would come try it out fall in love and end up paying to try out wrath and retail for sure!
Vanilla WoW will never die. Doesn't matter how much WoW evolved/evolves or how many other MMO's come out, none of them will ever be better than vanilla WoW and we all know it.
The irony is how the community is utterly tone deaf on the FACT that they are a large contributor to why WoW sucks today. They all agree that WoW was most fun when they knew nothing, when it was a big new world for them to explore, a big adventure of discoveries and challenges. Literally everybody agrees on that. So what do players do? They spreadsheet the fun out of the game, make it so you never, ever have to explore anything, never have to be challenged, never take one single step in the wrong direction, and addons that automate as much of the game as possible for them. Then they blow through an entire new expansion in 1 week and complain that LUL GAME BORING NO CONTENT HUR DUR. They don't just do it with WoW either, they do it with every MMO. As soon as the game releases they're datamining the files to make sure they're squeezing every single dreg of DPS out of their class, never equipping anything that isn't absolutely 100% optimal for that specific scenario, just strangling the fucking fun out of the game in every way imaginable... and then they complain that the game is too easy, or there's not enough content. Gamers are dumb as shit dude.
Edit: I think Asmon was on a Hardcore server or something different to the one I started (Firemaw); there's a lot more people on! AH has around 10K items Funny how things can happen sometimes - I started watching asmon's classic beta streams last week and decided to get back into wow a few days ago; had done classic in 2019, only got to lvl 30; now in 2023 came back to Wotlk classic to find i'd been left behind, guild dead, everyone 80, didn't feel like the experience I wanted to play; so I did some looking, found classic era, and started a new character on there literally the other day. Was worried about server being dead - happily found the community still strong there and smaller maybe wasn't necessarily bad. And now Asmon does a video on classic era servers. I hope it encourages even more people to do era!
can you choose between clasic, tbc and wotlk? and can you transfer character from one to the other when your character is ready for the next as in progress from bc to twotlk ?

Guild Wars 2 is surviving with that ( Free to play Trial ) and its actually insane u can play like almost all the game before u start paying for extensions :)
They should make static Classic servers for each expansion and give you free transfer to the next expansion when your character hits max of that expansion to the sister servers of each expansion and let you play classic servers up until the latest classic server for free. That would allow people to play completely for free if they wanted to stick around in old content but if you want to test out the new expansion you buy it and pay for the sub then go back to classic if you don't feel like playing retail anymore. Just imagine the player retention! Practically no one would ever stop playing WoW anymore...
Just a couple of days ago I started a new character on Westfall, and I was surprise to see quite a few fresh characters, leveling through Teldrassil, with me. I just arrived in Auberdine, last night and there even more people there, I was not expecting this many fresh characters.
As an EU frog, I've started playing HC, which I thought I never would. I'm hooked on once again. Classic has it's charm, with the HC community it's really enjoyable.
WoW Vanilla is 100% free on Kronos, the server has been rock solid for years. There's a few raiding guilds on the weekend but the rest of the time it is nearly empty. We need players.
I think it would be so cool if blizzard made an alternate expansion off of these classic servers. You could start anywhere from vanilla to wotlk and give an entirely different experience. What if on a PvP server on classic you have an actual invasion type expansion where the horde or alliance declares war and the expansion heads in the direction more pvp focused experience. What if in wotlk art has actually won and you had the choice of joining the lich king or leaving northrend and preparing for the upcoming invasion. What if there was a cataclysm type of event in vanilla wow? Theres so many scenarios for them to build off not just the nostalgia from vanilla-wotlk but head in a new direction also.
13:00 pretty legit, lots of people say they won't play because box/sub cost. if you can show them a free game like a girlfriend and play on classic with them that's less time for retail and you have to pay your sub for it still. eventually she will see you spend more time on that version and want to try it out with you and one of you will have to buy it for them.

The focus is on the journey and not being a min/max hero with 200 addons, parses, logs or any of that immersion killing garbo. No race to end game, none of that shit. It is. I just got back last week and it's been a blast. Feels like an actual community that gives a damn and is friendly. Free carry runs, people throwing buffs out and waving when you pass them by. No one complaining about waiting for dungeons. People actually take the time to talk to each other. You see the same people over and over instead of being thrown into an instanced version of a town or zone. Retail may have added a lot to the game over the years, but few appreciate what was lost. And classic brings all those experiences and feelings back.

Vanilla WoW will never die. Just look at private server communities. There is one server right now big enough to play on. I don't like private servers, but Blizzard can not deny the fact that they have a game which will always be attractive to players.

There was something I watched ages ago that gave an answer to the question "How many non-paying players do you expect me to spend server space/money on?"
The answer: "As many as you possibly can."
Like Asmon said, there will always be a percentage of free players that will transition to being payed players. And the increased player count both adds value for existing payed players (making them more likely to stick around longer) and attracts even more new players. It combats the "game is dead, don't bother" mentality.
I'm enjoying Wrath at the moment Ulduar is super fun) but classic envokes a certain nostalgia unlike anything else. Love to see people keeping it going.
Quit wrath after hitting 80. It was a subpar experience compared to its previous expansions.

Good to hear Whitemane is still around in some shape. Back in classic Whitemane had it all. If you played in it you'll always remember guilds like Risen, Old turtles, Empire, Cozy, DoD, Skeletor and many more. If you played from 2019 to 2021 what a time it was!

I started playing again 2 months ago on the Westfall cluster (alliance) and i can literally see more and more people coming back as the days/weeks pass by and even new players that never played wow before!
On horde side US EAST a lot of players that never played vanilla are leveling up. I been here since classic and stayed when tbc classic launched. I played both. I also played both back in the day in real time but wrath classic snoozefest for me that is. I played wrath back in day to and forgot how easy and dull it can be.

A free trial needs to get someone hooked. Nobody is hooked to their level 20 character. Let people get to level 59 for free, then level 60 opens up all the content and people have been playing their character for days and days and will be hooked.

FYI: Season of Mastery Servers are closing Feb 14th. Which allows a free server transfer from that realm. So i believe this is causing normal servers to serge in players.
Plus SoM gives bonus exp and gold so many are lvling up there quicker and transferring over with tons of stuff to put on the auction house.
Vanilla have special place in my heart. I will never forget the adventures with my friends back in 2006 if I am correct. We started as humans,I made paladin(wanted to be a warrior,my friend picked warrior so we all wanted to play different class), remember the starting zone,music and quests,how epic it looked for me back then. I loved to explore every corner. I think people need some new world, that they can explore.mmo was always about adventure in some fantasy world that you can share with other people. I enjoyed wow the most before I even reached the end game.

found that demonic portal... Kinda felt like one of these great historical explorers, because none of my friends had seen it... I called them over and we were just stunned :)
But tbh, I can try and try, but I´ll never get that same fascination back that I had with DaoC and WoW.. To quote Metallica: The memory remains :)

I say make Classic era F2P with a few exceptions.
- Disable AH access for F2P
- Limit bagslots for F2P
- Only allow blue items and below to be equipped for F2P (No epics)
Keeps bot potential low with removed AH access, and incentivizes people to sub if they like Classic.
I play HC on Hydraxian Waterlords EU. Friday night we had 121 ppl online in the smaller Horde HC guild Victory over Death. Realm is banded to be 70 / 30 Allaince. Starting zones are very much alive!

Ive never seen such amazing changes balances of classes, custom mounts, Custom quests from level 10-60 Custom dungeons and raids, Paladins that can actually dps, Druids that can actually dps, Its so damn good theyve thought of everything QOL changes. Turtle wow is classic+ perfected
Usually I’m skeptical of custom content on private servers. It’s usually buggy or a cash grab just rehashing worse versions of crap blizz does in retail and at that point I’d rather just rather just play retail. But I checked this out cause of your comment and it does look like a really cool passion project, and in line with what I would like to see if blizzard did classic+ (a few new race class combos, balancing, classic playable races added, content that doesn’t invalidate the original game) glad you shared it!

I joined whitemane yesterday, joined a leveling guild that's really active and people in the game are actually socializing. Loving it so far.
There is a small resistance growing, a resistance of people too afraid to speak up for fear of being called trash. WoW won’t go away. I remember playing Diablo, Tribes, and Star Wars Jedi knight Jedi Academy. Diablo 2 came out and that’s the only game I played from middle school throughout high school. WoW was even bigger when it was released and the memories it has brought is ingrained in my brain and I’m not a die hard fan but honestly if I got a decent pc again, I’d definitely install WoW on it.

Thanks for the plug in NA PVP. Whitemane is relatively huge at the moment. We have 4 naxx raids on horde as well as 4 naxx on alliance weekly. With one guild on each faction nearing speed clear teritory. One does 65 min naxx on DMF week, the other around 74min. Come visit us more often :)

Once i wrap "A Dwarfs Journey to Northrend" which airs this Friday btw, not that more than 1200 people will see it on my best day, but it's a thing, and when it's done i'm heading to Classic and making as much noise as i can for it. Classic should have dedicated content creators just for it. I expect the Hardcore community will start finding such people soon. If not already. I think they will get the most viewership but i mean fk deleting my toon each time i die so lol. I'll take the scraps of their viewership.

Been on Mistblade, a private MoP server with a solid 3k population. I wish more people would flood into private servers, they're free so you can be on two accounts at once, and the Catch-up mechanics make it easy to jump to top level and enjoy the game instead of grind.

What's the horde side like? Towards the end of classic from my experience it became heavily horde populated on my server. Curious to know whether that's still the case.

I started playing wow in 2009 and stopped after Mist in 2013. This game left a huge mark on my life. My life was WOW. Such nostalgia.
WOW Classic had a very real RPG element to it: leveling was part of the experience, dungeons were not that common to do and you had to walk there (there is ton of enemies, exclusive loot and quests OUTSIDE dungeons that were almost lost with WOTLK), and the lore and ambient acompannied the recent Warcraft 3.
It had a fuckton of flaws but damn, it was the best MMORPG that has ever existed.

@@xMorbidArtx hardcore has been going on for just over 2 years now so I don’t believe it’s just a fad. Granted a lot of its traction has built up over the last couple months but it’s so big now that it’s even got attention from blizzard so there’s clearly a demand for it. The hardcore team have even tried to keep the mode independent by declaring a dedicated EU and NA realm as hardcore so not to ruin the experience for standard vanilla players. All the time there’s the option for both I don’t see the problem? Plus it gives the player a choice, vanilla players aren’t being forced to play on the hardcore realms… I know people with both a standard vanilla char on whitemain and a hardcore char on hydraxian waterlords. All the time it brings people back to the great game then I see no issue!
Tanking the twins fight was the most epic heart throbbing encounter in wow classic. Absolutely unmatched.

I started a character, undead rogue before the release of burning crusade or after I can t remember exactly but the thing is that I was mostly alone and whenever I was leveling in tirisfal glades and silverpine it always felt like I was spending more time dead rather than alive and it was extremely stressful trying to kill some dudes, since then I started a human warrior on burning crusade which I leveled to 53 thanks to the xp boost and the amount of people playing (otherwise I feel like warrior would be way too hard if I was alone) mind you I have never played classic before and now I am playing on my undead again and I reached level 23 ( yes insanely good) and honestly I was having fun even though I am dying a lot and I rarely see people but at least I get to experience what people did years ago + I feel more immersed into the world( I do not use addons)

The server limitation is what really sets classic and wotlk back when you have so many players spread out on different servers especially when hype dies down it just leaves players feeling like no one is playing especially leveling
Whitemane and Mankrik are the 2 servers that are the place to play classic atm. If you want to play classic in a cool no rush just enjoy the game sort of way come join us
i would honestly play on these servers if it was f2p. I have a full bis mage with r13 field marshal gear that is just sitting on an account I dropped after classic was over that I'd love to play on/make new characters

That would be so smart to make classic servers free 2 play. I think that would open up world of Warcraft to a whole new player base! Tons of my friends never gave WoW a shot just because they did not want to pay $15 a month. So many new players would come try it out fall in love and end up paying to try out wrath and retail for sure!
Vanilla WoW will never die. Doesn't matter how much WoW evolved/evolves or how many other MMO's come out, none of them will ever be better than vanilla WoW and we all know it.

@@EQOAnostalgia Oh I agree completely. Blizzard didn't ruin WoW, the players did. They all agree that WoW was most fun when they knew nothing, when it was a big new world for them to explore, a big adventure of discoveries and challenges. Literally everybody agrees on that.
So what do players do? They spreadsheet the fun out of the game, make it so you never, ever have to explore anything, never have to be challenged, never take one single step in the wrong direction, and addons that automate as much of the game as possible for them. Then they blow through an entire new expansion in 1 week and complain that LUL GAME BORING NO CONTENT HUR DUR.
They don't just do it with WoW either, they do it with every MMO. As soon as the game releases they're datamining the files to make sure they're squeezing every single dreg of DPS out of their class, never equipping anything that isn't absolutely 100% optimal for that specific scenario, just strangling the fucking fun out of the game in every way imaginable... and then they complain that the game is too easy, or there's not enough content.

Funny how things can happen sometimes - I started watching asmon's classic beta streams last week and decided to get back into wow a few days ago; had done classic in 2019, only got to lvl 30; now in 2023 came back to Wotlk classic to find i'd been left behind, guild dead, everyone 80, didn't feel like the experience I wanted to play; so I did some looking, found classic era, and started a new character on there literally the other day.
Was worried about server being dead - happily found the community still strong there and smaller maybe wasn't necessarily bad.
And now Asmon does a video on classic era servers. I hope it encourages even more people to do era!

Guild Wars 2 is surviving with that ( Free to play Trial ) and its actually insane u can play like almost all the game before u start paying for extensions :)

They should make static Classic servers for each expansion and give you free transfer to the next expansion when your character hits max of that expansion to the sister servers of each expansion and let you play classic servers up until the latest classic server for free.
That would allow people to play completely for free if they wanted to stick around in old content but if you want to test out the new expansion you buy it and pay for the sub then go back to classic if you don't feel like playing retail anymore.
Just imagine the player retention!

As an EU frog, I've started playing HC, which I thought I never would. I'm hooked on once again. Classic has it's charm, with the HC community it's really enjoyable.

WoW Vanilla is 100% free on Kronos, the server has been rock solid for years. There's a few raiding guilds on the weekend but the rest of the time it is nearly empty. We need players.
I think it would be so cool if blizzard made an alternate expansion off of these classic servers. You could start anywhere from vanilla to wotlk and give an entirely different experience. What if on a PvP server on classic you have an actual invasion type expansion where the horde or alliance declares war and the expansion heads in the direction more pvp focused experience. What if in wotlk art has actually won and you had the choice of joining the lich king or leaving northrend and preparing for the upcoming invasion. What if there was a cataclysm type of event in vanilla wow? Theres so many scenarios for them to build off not just the nostalgia from vanilla-wotlk but head in a new direction also.
13:00 pretty legit, lots of people say they won't play because box/sub cost. if you can show them a free game like a girlfriend and play on classic with them that's less time for retail and you have to pay your sub for it still. eventually she will see you spend more time on that version and want to try it out with you and one of you will have to buy it for them.
