MG continues to specialise in providing budget brand buyers access to full electrification at super-affordable prices. In 2020, the company announced its second zero emissions model, the MG5 EV estate, then improved it a year later with a larger 61kWh battery to create the MG5 EV Long Range model we're going to look at here. This, the UK's first and cheapest EV estate, offers a 250 combined driving range, an increase of 36 miles over the original 52kWh version. All for a reasonably conventional price. Exciting? Possibly not. Clever? Definitely.

Last comment summed up the MG5 perfectly, there's no comparison with the Focus or Astra, and no more fuelling makes the whole package hard to beat.

I always enjoy your reviews and find them very comprehensive. I was interested to see that a standard range car has apparently been used for this video (no MG Pilot controls) and found this somewhat confusing, but even the best editing suites trip up sometimes (I think I might have seen a standard range review of yours a while back?). Thanks!

Some of the photos displayed of the interior are from the SR model but the car in the video review is the LR

Having been force-fed the American SUV concept, despite the increased wind resistance, and increased cost, not to mention the higher pedestrian mortality rate its good to see this estate-styled alternative. Is there another EV estate? No. So its logical for the MG brand to up the game a third time by producing the 2022-23 upgrade model which has better touch screen response and a more sharply defined front end among other improvements. Always respect a brand which calls regen, KERS - Kinetic Energy Recovery System. because that's what it is. Thanks.

i feel that the mg range of models from petrol and electric vehicles are starting to give other car makers an headache and maybe a shock of what you actually get for the money and hopefully prices may drop or people will go the mg route for there next car. great video as always

It would be great that MG can offer an optional "Solar Power Panel Roof Spoiler" upgrade for all MG"s models. According to my knowledge the amount of electric that generate via the solar panel would be enough to power the air con inside the car. Something extra to offer..., why the not...!!?? Thank you and all the best of luck...!!! 👍

The amount of energy a small roof mounted panel might develop would be tiny. Nissan used to offer one on the Leaf Mk 1, and that was intended to trickle charge the normal 12v battery. I don't think they offer it now.

It sounds like you are just reading company propaganda. What about horrible handling at highway speeds, nasty depreciation and are you ok sending that much money to support the ccp?

What nasty depreciation? The demand for electric cars is so high, that you can literally get a new one and use it for a year, then get your money back when you sell or trade it in. Waiting lists for some new models are over a year long in the UK now. I saw a 5 year old 90k mile Hyundai Ioniq sell in just 4 days just a few weeks back. It sold for £15k. MG in the UK have ceased taking anymore orders for the MG5, to allow them to catch up with the orders they already have. Clearly, you are out of touch here. And it might surprise you to learn that you have bought items from the China. Your PC, your TV, phone etc......
