    No, do not accept every trip or you will be making $7 a hour after you add the entire amount of time you worked. Been doing this for 5yrs, don't sell yourself out doing that. Log off and go to surge zones, then, turn on and select a trip. Acceptance rate does not matter now with upfront pricing. Your customer rating and cancellations matter the most.

    Very helpful tips. I noticed once I decline a few low ball offers than I will get higher paying Trip.

    • @emineo3252
      @emineo3252 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      True measure is to look at the time per hr. I know I'll get a "low ball" offer but the higher offer is still the same rate per hour. So you take rate, let's say 7 for 15 minutes total so picking guy up and dropping them off, you multiply it by 4 to get hourly rate of 28. That's the same thing as 14 dollars for 30 minutes trip, but you feel like the 14 might be a better offer or perhaps the 7 sounds better to you because it sounds like a quick trip. Obviously wait times mess this up, but it gives you a good reference, plus if you think 4 trips you are bound to get 1 to tip you at least 3 bucks... I've noticed that most of the trips are very similar, but the destination is what makes it better, if I can anticipate a surge in the drop-off that's when a trip can pay good, short trips are where you can bank on. City driving is always a no, especially if it leads away from major freeway access.

    Yeah man, Nashville Uber driver here, you can get stuck in downtown party traffic for hours chasing a $20 ride, only to find the route the app took you is blocked off by police. I learned to just drop people off downtown, turn off the app, and drive about 10 miles out and turn it back on. Def helps my acceptance rating not declining those rides

      I turned off my app after being stuck in traffic in Vegas earlier cause the traffic was barely moving and the impatient ones where crowding in front of everyone else! I suffered from shell shock and being traumatized until I drove away from the Strip and then set my area pickup in a 5 mile perimeter and it went so well! Going out tomorrow and I’ll do the same thing and my area does not cover the Airport because most of those rides will want to go to the Strip! Not this great-grandma going to get caught in that traffic again, lol!

      I don't know. I think it depends on which market you drive in. For example in the LA market if its surge by hermosa and Manhattan Beach it's only about 2 miles. And most of the south bay doesn't travel outside of the area. So sometimes you can do 5 or 6 short rides. Making $6 to $8 a ride avg about $20 to $30 per hour with some decent tips. But that's also a big drinking area at night so I usually don't drive any of these areas anymore in the evenings since I figured out I still earn the same. Amount almost every day between 10am and 10pm. Usually only putting in about 8 to 9 hours.

      @WaltDittrich ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Juan_rivera Exactly! You can write that off so you pay less in taxes!
      I think most drivers do Lyft/Uber in addition to a job, to make extra money. There are SO many tax deductions to use in driving, you can operate your Lyft/Uber business at a loss, which then lowers your tax burden for the job. 👍

    • @Juan_rivera
      @Juan_rivera ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @WaltDittrich
      @WaltDittrich ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Juan_rivera Exactly. That's what I'm saying: Count your mileage. Keep track! Whether in a notebook or a spreadsheet. Keep track so you can tally it up. 65.5¢ for every mile? That's huge!!
      As far as wear and tear goes, every driver is different. For me, I choose to have a newer vehicle. I will have a payment each month. It's a cost of doing business. That payment will be there. When I no longer want the vehicle, I will trade it in on a new one. Fortunately, I've been very successful with my vehicles. Same brand turning into the same brand of dealership. I don't know if they get incentives selling a new car or what, but I feel like I make out like a bandit!
      If a vehicle is properly maintained, most will last an incredibly long time. Sure, that maintenance costs money (brakes, tires, etc.) but again, that's a cost of doing business. If one has a retail storefront, there's only so much you can do to lower the power bill or other utilities. Again, it's a cost of doing business that isn't going away.
      So, I don't get caught up in the miles because they're always going to be there. For me, time is my most valuable asset. I want to generate the most money in the shortest amount of my time. (including empty vehicle time!)

    when driving for uber i dont see what ill be making until after the trip. i only see if there are surge prices being added to a trip before hand. I dont even see the total estimated trip miles. just how far they are from me currently until i get to them and then go into the next stage of the trip. I do uber on Long Island and I can tell you that if you dont have TC plates that you should try to start in the middle of nassau county cause if youre accepting rides in any towns that are close to or border queens, high chance itll be a ride into queens or brooklyn and then you wont get any other uber rides until youre back into nassau county since is mandatory to have TC plates to drive people in the 5 borrows

    I have some good level of experience and wanna add a lil 2 cents to events in your city. Especially in a major city. You can waste a lot of time locating riders in a crowded area during events so it’s best to always call your riders in advance to meet you at an EXACT location and not where the app wants you to pick them at.
    I personally don’t like picking riders from event locations. Sometimes I won’t even go there but will get close enough to pick riders within the surge locations.

    • @SoCalCubanGrrl
      @SoCalCubanGrrl ปีที่แล้ว +2

      this answers a question i had! i was wondering if i should even bother trying to get people from the pickup lot (Sofi stadium)...even with the $5 bonus per trip, i could waste an hour stuck there trying to even pick people up. i think i'll stick to working the outer areas of the stadium.

    • @elisobais

      @@SoCalCubanGrrl I’m glad this helped you. I have over 10,000 rides in Washington DC so you can imagine. City of conferences and events. Lol. After wasting so many minutes trying to pick up people from events, I learned my lesson at some point. IF THEY CAN’T MEET YOU AT AN EXACT LOCATION, you might end up wasting 15 plus minutes trying to locate them. Sometimes you will not even find them. LOL.
      HERE’S THE TRICK! - ALWAYS GET INTO THE SURGE ZONE. You’ll always find riders within the event location that are not in the event location. BOOM!!! I still get that $7.5 extra. LOL

    • @SoCalCubanGrrl
      @SoCalCubanGrrl ปีที่แล้ว

      @@elisobais thanks for your help, these are great tips. i don't want to get suckered into that $5 bonus when i can only do like 2 rides during that time. do you recommend having the app off then turn it on once you get near the surge? the street i live on has a $13 - $15 surge every morning and i've never gotten more than $7 or $8 surge. i have always wondered if it's because my app is on so it doesn't look like i'm coming into the surge, because i was already there.

    • @elisobais
      @elisobais ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SoCalCubanGrrl This is a great question cos after all these many trips, I sometimes miss the exact location of the highest surge amounts.
      I’m currently studying surges closely but here’s what I’ve come to know thus far. Uber tends to move the exact location of the highest surge amount IN CERTAIN AREAS the closer you get to it. LMAO. They’re trifling as hell. Hahaha
      HOWEVER, I’ve caught a lot of them lately. ALWAYS MAKE SURE THAT THE APP CURSOR IS ON THE SURGE AMOUNT. The cursor indicates where you as the driver is located and not just within the surge location ring. That is working for me so I’ve been catching the high surge amounts lately.
      And YES! Turn off your app until you get to the surge location. Unless you’re racking up rides and not money. As Ronnie shared, you will have to know what you’re chasing that day or week. IS IT NUMBER OF RIDES OR MONEY?

    • @SoCalCubanGrrl
      @SoCalCubanGrrl ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@elisobais ok. i will take the tip of the surge amount into account, i always thought it was just in the vicinity, but that makes sense. the morning $13 - $15 surges i see in the morning is a bit further down the street by a few blocks. i'll make sure i'm DIRECTLY over the surge amount lol. and i can totally see uber shifting the surges on people!
      it's like we're constantly trying to outsmart the algorithm. i just started a week ago, so far i have made pretty good money in LA, but i know there's more to be made by working smarter. thanks for all your tips! i'm going to try my hand at an event today. i need to figure out how to not get taken out of the area. i think i'll set a destination that's a mile or so away from the stadium and see if it will keep me in the general area. thanks again for your insight!

You basically got a learn these things in each market a lot a new driver is coming on board, they try to keep everybody $25 an hour. It’s all about algorithms your first or second your third or fourth especially when you have a lot of drivers in the area but it’s not the case at all markets. I got screwed AGAIN 😠 Last night, driving for Lyft, I accepted an offer paying (UPFRONT) $13 for 28 minutes going 19 miles to the airport. The trip actually took 40 minutes!!! There was crazy traffic at LAX. I honestly think this Ratchett App is UNDERESTIMATING travel time. Is it on purpose or is it bad programming?? Hmmm. That is the question. I keep getting screwed on travel time. I drive relatively fast. And it only took 4 minutes to get to the pick up location. The upfront pricing on Lyft driver app is either a big FAIL or it's a total FRAUD. Either way, it SUCKS & I'm not getting paid for my time. Only miles (70 cents/mile) & surge bonuses. This is an upfront screw job.

    Do not take every trip, this hurts other drivers and teaches the algorithm that you like bad paying jobs. Your acceptance rating does not matter and the perks for keeping it high do not even come close to making up for cherrypicking. If you were mowing lawns and maintaining equipment or doing any other like job, you would have set rates based on what you thought were fair for your services. This number would not change based on how busy it is or would not be lessened just to get work. Professionals who undercut in their market only hurt themselves in the end. Remember, you have to set money aside for gas, repairs, insurance and taxes. Do not lowball yourself, even veteran drivers I see still shoot themselves in the foot. I hear, "I wasnt getting any jobs or it is slow out there" and they will actually take jobs that pay them $15-20 an hour instead of just driving when it is busier.

    Here in Long Island N.Y. we can't take trips west into Manhattan or jersey because we can not take anyone back to the island and that means what you make is cut in half. Say rush hour it'll take 90 minutes into Manhattan but that means 90 empty minutes back. It'll kill your day

    • @Gian_Don

      I'm from New jersey and it's the same thing for us when we go to NY. Unless I go to spring valley with no tolls because it's by the border.

      Same here in the Westchester market. If I really need the money when I'm outside the market, I'll just set my destination back into the market and do UberEATS til I'm back inside. But usually, I'll just call it a day if rush hour traffic persists into the later hours.
