I really enjoyed this game, heck, sometimes I still play it. I'm still waiting for Reunion II which should have been relased "early 1995"!!! There are many funny things about this game, but the funniest one was when the population of a planet would drop when they weren't happy, even by something as silly as not having a stadium on that planet. Considering the population doesn't goes anywhere else basically I assumed they commited mass suicide because they didn't had a local sports stadium.
@@witold2329 I remember reading a very old magazine about 15/20 or so years ago where Imperium Galactica 3 was supposed to involve an Earth force fleeing from an AI that took control of Earth and the objective of the game was to return to Earth and conquer it but you had to build up your power base.. sounded a lot like Reunion's plot in a lot of ways (psychic alien mind controls Earth and forces you into exile to return in force). Apparently the stuff of that game when it looked like development was in trouble ended up being turned into Nexus: The Jupiter Incident which didn't really make much of an impact.
Reunion, also known as Merit's Galactic Reunion, is a space strategy video game. It was the Hungarian game developer company Amnesty Design's (now Digital Reality) first game.[citation needed] The game was programmed by János Kistamás, Krisztián Jámbor, and Attila Lendvai (Amiga), István Kiss (DOS). The soundtrack was made by Tamás Kreiner[1] which was the basis of his reputation. Tamás Kreiner entered the world of music when he established his company, Amnesty Design in 1991. He soon began work on several successful solo musical projects, including the soundtrack for the game Reunion,[1] which was the basis of his reputation. After many years, Amnesty Design evolved to Digital Reality,[1] where Kreiner has composed scores for Imperium Galactica and the great hit sequel, Imperium Galactica II: Alliances.[1] During these years Kreiner pioneered the use of combining old and new musical technologies and expanded his experience in both composing and sound designing, which later has granted him great reputation in the industry. In 2000, he received the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Award (Best Original Game Music) for his work on Imperium Galactica II.[2]

The problems weren't only with DOSBox... I've played it back in the day. And it completely hung your pc if you didnt press enter, or space key at the exact time, during the startup.
Those inventory descriptions are great :) 32:13 it does look like those little magnetic heads you slip into your multi-screwdriver, and the gun on the tank after that does indeed look like a mini-usb plug XD
there were a few dos games that used .mod music, but they all have some relation with the demoscene: most if not all the pinball games, some of the other Epic stuff (Jazz Jackrabbit), Alien Incident among them.
For anyone wondering about the PC Gravis UltraSound version, it is actually just the same as the Amiga soundtrack (The MOD version). I'm not sure what resulted in the decision to make the SoundBlaster mode utilize different Adlib music during the main game, given that the Soundblaster was perfectly capable of playing the MOD music as well (and in fact does exactly this during the intro). That said, I actually like both versions of the soundtrack. I think Main 1 sounds cool in both Adlib and MOD (although I wish the Adlib version had all the sections of the MOD version which is longer and just... better), but while Main 1 is clearly the same track in both versions, Main 2 is pretty different and I actually kind of prefer the Adlib Main 2. The whole soundtrack is awesome though.

Reunion 2 sadly never happened, but the same development team went on to create Imperium Galactica, which has a lot of similarities and is a great series in it's own right!

Ascendancy was made on PC and was a nice game, but they later made a new mobile version by some folk who probably had grabbed the IP. It takes a bit of tweaking, but if you manage to configure dosbox to use Gravis Ultrasound in port 220, Reunion uses that card and tracker music. I think they did a good job with the OPL2 midi, but the tracker one actually sounds better.
is this for download anywhere, as a collection of individual song files? Or, how would you go about splitting it from the command line based on the times in the description?
what, the commandline? I thought that was what you used to encode it in mp3. Is that the command to automatically split it? Most people are not familiar with the flags and not gonna bother looking them all up, so you better label your description better if that command was intended to split it.
I think it should be possible with the Adlib portion, but I have not extracted it in a playable format. There are lots of games where the music is difficult to extract where the VGM would sound the same.
"mod" refers to the MOD audio format. It was more popular in the 1990's and 2000's because you could have recorded sounds and arrange them with notes and timing. This gave you good quality sound compared to MIDI and saved space compared to CD audio. Simultaneous MP3 playback while playing a video game wasn't computationally feasible yet.

I love this game so much, great pixel art and tense gameplay for a simulator because of the time limits and need for minmaxing
