  • In this second episode on our heavy barrel Winchester 1876, we'll concentrate on the set trigger and troubleshoot why it's not working. Watch as we fabricate a mockup of the lower tang and set trigger assembly to function test the parts outside the rifle.

    Really nice job that is lots of work, you made it look easy. For anyone that knows anything about machining and such can appreciate all of the patience and work. Very nice to have that jig on hand for future use.

    Have enjoyed watching your 76 videos. First Winchester I purchased was a 1876 the fellow I bought it from had some kids and he didn't want an elephant gun sitting around his house. That was 48 years ago, & closest I've come to firing the 76 was to make up some brass. Your sounds better than mine when you cycle the old girl mine sounds a little clunky anyhow enjoyed your video thanks

      Thanks very much Jay! One of the first Winchesters I bought was also an 1876. The fellow I bought it from cycled it and said it reminded him of the sound logging equipment makes.🙂

    Another fine video Mark. Love the ingenuity you showed using a jig to make and adjust the parts for the set trigger job. Really enjoy the detail with projects like this one! Looking forward to #2.

    Well done Mark. A really proficient gunsmith good with set triggers could garner a lot of work. There are many many set triggers out there in need of repair or rebuild. Great video.

    Yah know when old Tom came over here to make that movie, the Aussie heat got the bloke . I wouldn't mind getting a 45 colt but it's pretty expensive keeping the little fella's here. And you can't use them on your own property, only at a pistol range.thats the $$$ part . Great video mate

      Sorry to hear the politicians have screwed things up for shooter there. They're working hard to do the same to us. Sad time we live in.

    Another good one Mark. Loved the intro with the pistol twirling showmanship. Excellent job with the millwork.

      Thanks Jim! I started spinning revolvers as a teenager and then didn't do it for decades. Wore the blue off the muzzle trying to learn how to spin one into a holster.🙂

    I bought a basket case 76 45-75 w/set trigger. I sent it to Turnbull thinking about a restoration but ended up with a rebarrel and putting it back together and tuning it up. I have the original barrel. Your video made me glad I had them assemble it.
    I joined both Winchester and the Colt associations, I'm kind of past the gunsmithing but the magazines are well worth the money. Great to see you again.

    We have all been down the "rabbit hole" at one time or another. This one was a might deep. Sometimes you have to reinvent part if not all the wheel...

    Hello Mark, could you please tell us the brand of punches/brass hammer/right-angle screw driver you use in this video?

    • @thecinnabar8442
      @thecinnabar8442  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The punches are Sterrett, I made the hammer on the lathe and the screwdriver is an old one that isn't marked.
