Sharing a short video City Green Hydroponics 24/49 planters set up for purchase for home use in India - th-cam.com/users/shortsKCLvgNyWri4?feature=share
Very nice explanation … I have 3 acres of land in Ajmer. Rajasthan and I am interested to grow crops from either hydroponics or aquaponics. Climate conditions. Winter : 5°C to 15°C Summer 25°C to 50°C Please do suggest what is better for me ?
Managing production in summer will be tough. Go for low cost net house kind of setup. In winters grow a high value crop. In summers you can grow chillies or cucumbers or brinjal as one short cycle crop. In monsoon don’t grow anything.
Half acre valley at kodaikanal. Cool breezy weather. First time investor. How much should i set my budget? What should be my first crop? I believe there is a learning curve.
Start from the crop/market first. What is it that you will grow and can sell easily. Setup for leafy - budget may go to 100 L. For vegetable crops - around 60 oddL. If you can increase the size to around 3/4 acre - you can get subsidy from Govt as well.
All the prices you said are very high and with these prices the ROI cannot be taken even in 5 years. Above that there are lot many other factors that has to be taken under consideration, like operational cost, which includes lot many inputs.
Yes. You are right. It is a capital intensive farming to start. And to make profits you need to sell in high premium channels. If you sell in local APMC mandi it will be unprofitable - that is why many farmers who get into it without proper planning fail. It is a good business if you do it with proper planning and have a good sales channel. RoI can be expected in around 3.5 to 4.5 years for large projects. For smaller it may take 5 to 6. But since income is tax free - and there are subsidies too. If you plan it well, one can expect a real post tax RoI of between 23% to 29% in average case. More if you are doing it better and with proper planning. Less if you are jumping in with your eyes closed.
Dear Sir, I have recently started researching hydroponics in my village. I have noticed that local farmers have stopped growing crops due to the unpredictability of the weather. I want to gather them all and start hydroponic farming. Please let me know how I should begin researching for current times.
Hydroponics is generally carried out in polyhouse to provide protection from weather anomalies. It is slightly costly endeavour starting with approx 50L investment per acre for most basic and manual setup. You may want to set up such units and then employ the formers to run those as a starting point.
If you want to grow vining crops and get into B2B business, minimum to start should be an acre. For smaller area you can grow leafy and sell directly to consumers to make money but will be difficult. For 10 cents - leafy setup with Dwc may cost around 15 L and vining set up may cost around 10 L odd.
I loved the video and clear explanation. I'd like to know how do you guys sell the produce ? Do you partner with big basket, swiggy, etc ? or locally ?
Former. Though it’s less profitable but It ensures that we keep our logistics simple and can focus on our core which is building technology for continued improvements in farming.
I am beginner (zero idea in farming) and i live in odisha. The temperature in ( summer : 35-45 Winter: 15-27 Moderately rainy) Thinking of cultivating crops. Should i do it in traditional way by hiring farmers or should i try hydroponics? And please do tell me what kind of crops should i plant to be profitable. What will be the investment per acre? I have 5acres of land.
It will depend upon the market and investments you can make. If you have a market nearby or if you would want a buy back system wherein we buy what you grow - you can go for hydroponics. On 5 acre the cost will be approx 60 L per acre after subsidy. Approx 2 Cr can come as loan from banks - approx 1 Cr your investment. If investment is an issue you can go for traditional farming and sell produce in the local market.
Beautifully explained and much appreciated. I wish somehow we could bring the cost down to a level where every poor kissan could reap the benefits of this technology and rise above poverty instead of succumbing to it by committing suicide- 1 farmer every hour in India. Help!!!!
We are working on one solution for same in our research centre. We hope to be able to bring some short term changes in next 6-8 months and long term, large scale impact in next 2-3 years v
Sir I am based out in ballari Karnataka where temperature is high during summer as high as 40 degree so which crops are suitable for hydroponic farming?
U cud directly mention the lowest cost ,mid and highest cost and then tell the reason in th rest of the story.. these days 8 minutes is too a long videos cos most of the people in Yt are bullsit . People may be already tires of searching good videos and then land in your video..
If I want to do such a setup at a smaller scale, let's say for R&D, what are the main pain points to be aware of upfront. Like if i want to do it in UP, there will be issue with electricity, in certain parts of the state, extreme weather conditions such as heavy rain and flood like conditions to extreme heat in different seasons. And how i can come to terms with these and other risk factors if any. Thanks a lot for the informative content.
For every issue you should decide on the best alternative amongst all possible. For example, to avoid issues due to electricity fluctuations, you should choose DWC over NFT. For water logging - raise the platform or do the setup at a higher ground or create gutter channels around the polyhouse. For heat - use from multiple options that are used for temperature control and choose temperature hardy crops instead of exotic temperate climate ones.
Sir I want to start hydroponic farming but I have zero idea and I want to start it.. please help me with something to begin Climate: Summer 25-50 degree celsius Winter: 5-15 degrees Celsius
Sir if I am planning to grow tomato in 1 acre grow bag method how many bags can be utilised and can we plant 2 plants in one bag or only one plant in one bag and what will be the expected tomato yield per plant
Approx between 12000 to 14000 plants depending upon how you do the setup. It is not advisable to put more than one plant in one bag. Both plants will compete for light and resources and overall yield will be lower than if you have a single plant and take good care of it. Yield will depend upon seed variety. Better to ask the seed guy. Expect upwards of 5kg per plant for local tomato varieties in 5-6 month cycle.
