This is how you do the l1 and r2 it's essay all you have to do is cry on the floor because you upset you can't do it and because you have to buy a new controller because you smashed it on the floor
Tip for reattaching the back panel: if you feel it’s not snug or want to try again do NOT pull the cover away; pull upwards instead! It’s going to save you a ton of headaches trust me.
When I was reseating mine, I wasn't sure how the spring went, but it last against the mounting mechanism. Also one of my trigger mounts actually popped out too and I had to snap it back in. Took a minute because I was being mindful to be gentle, but eventually it all clicked together.
The springs have both "legs" "mounting"/"straddling" the corresponding flat white plastic part then snap the round pivot end of the trigger into its slot and it should work
thanks bro,i was having trouble puttn mt bk together and my r2 triggs came apart from the plastic circuit and the rubber bumber piece.that was biggest pain gettn to fit bk together but your vid was the only one tht showed how to put bk in the r2 buttons if came off.so thanks alot man your vid helped ALOT!!!!
thanks man. I didn't realize what was wrong with the trigger buttons at first. I had only been messing with it for a few minutes before I watched this video. Glad I saw this before i broke something
Thanks bud got my controller properly assembled within 5 minutes thanks to your video, last time I took it apart I spent over an hour trying to put it together again and the L1 and L2 didn't work properly at all afterwards.
Thank you, I just did some cleaning of my PS3 Pad (the X key became a bit wobbly - all it required was cleaning the key chute) and I panicked as I couldn't close it back into place because of the trigger keys. Your video helped my to fix it, and probably saved me some good £30 :)
The back of the controller doesn't snap back on the left side properly but it's fine on the right. This makes the left R2 button stick and has a lot of resistance when trying to spring back up.
It is because the triggers aren't in their place, it's like a puzzle, you have to fit it into the right place, 3:36 in the video, is what i'm talking about.
took mine apart to replace a broken spring and clean it (to see if that fixes some movement issues), but the back cover will not reattach. it'll get partway on, but the rear triggers will get stuck or those parts on the case will fly off forcing me to start over. I'm getting seriously pissed off.
I've been at this for hours and I just CANNOT understand what I'm doing wrong. Is seems there's always L2 is fine until I tighten the screws then it fucks up and seems stiff
Does the model of the ps3 controller make a difference? I'm trying to swap the internals of one controller that was chewed by a dog with the case of another controller? The vibrators don't seem to fit
But wen I put the trigger there's a mettle stick warped around the trigger and that stops it from pressing and do u know how to fix a ps3 control couse mine my sister dropped soda and it still works but it only works with charger o do u know how to fix it
No one seems to show how to get the rubber pads for the triggers back into that plastic guide, if it pops out. That happened to me and it is A REAL pain. I can get it back in correctly
It is because your ps button doesn't make contact with the circuitry, the circuitry is where the LED's are, make sure you push everything into place, I had the same problem, and fixed it like that.
Hey MattCarl, I was wondering if you could help me. I was trying to get my PS3 controller back together when the R2 button fell off. It look like I have to align the R2 trigger with this plastic circuit. I can't find any guides on how to reattach it do you know how or could send me a link ?
Hey, i have a serious problem! I can't take the shell off because there is a screw that has round head so now i would like to put it back together but the battery is on the way... help?
@GavinEaster there should be a small hole on the back of the controller look for it and get a paperclip or thumb tack and stick it in there and you should here a noise then just hook it up to your ps3 and it should turn on
i am having the same problem the problem is the there is power obviously but the is a strip between to boards that connect the two if it does not line up perfectly you will have problems controlling the controller so when yo take apart the controller look for a strip next to the usb plug in. then look at the bottom board and connect the strip to the board and your controller should work. hope i helped.
Thank you for posting. It showed me what to do with the two plastic clips I could not work out where they came from. Turned out they were to hold the battery in place (which I had just replaced with one which is not held in place with a sticky foam pad).
Dude.. when you showed how to disassemble it, you used a SIXAXIS controller.. I'm having problems taking out the rumble and I have the same controller you used on this, the Dualshock. How did you take it out? can you at least describe it?
mine doesn't want to turn on I spray painted it myself and then when I put it back together it didn't want to turn on I haven't watched this video yet but I will see what happens after your video
I took it apart myself and when i did a bar and what looks like a curled, thin metal piece fell with it (these are from the L and R buttons) how can i put these back?
Just cleaned it and the l2+r2 both weren't feeling right once I got it back together. They didn't snap back like they should have when pushed. Little tip, not sure if it got covered in the video. The little metal pieces should both go on the same side. Meaning, both should be underneath the guard or towards the bottom. I had it to where one was on top, and one on bottom, but it was mushy. Idk if that makes sense or helps, but basically both of those metal tabs should be on the bottom, and it'll feel kinda weird, but having both on the bottom side creates that spring tension.
Does it matter how the white botton pads (the pad that goes under the square, circle, triangle, etc bottons go) go into or does it have to be the same where it was before disassembly?
yeah, i've got a question, i've seen multiple videos of the R2 button not being removed from the plastic thing (don't know what they call it -_-" sorry), so my questions is, can they be removed? and will it actually do damage if it's removed?
I've resembled my controller, everything working but the two bottom buttons 1/2 are quite stiff. but work. An the left hand side hand grip isn't completely put back together and clipped into place... Help?
hey mannice video.. got a questiontho i have this problem when playing shooters.. when i press the run key l3 often my player takes or does something that should only happen with the arrowpad.. so there is a conflict with the left joystick and the arrows pad.. how can i fix this? it annoys me greatly:(
the thing that holds the trigger in place came off. there is a green strip that goes under it. i cut it off,put the thing back on, put the controller back together, and the l1 and l2 triggers aren't working.I NEED HELP!
Hey Matt , I was dissassembling my controller because the buttons were jammed and I saw a three pronged black plastic thing it was shaped like T and there was a hole where the roads met what do I do with it?!?!?!?!?
When I have assembled everything back together and in the right order but I simply CANNOT get the back to clip back on! The left side (when it is face down) seems like its got too much stuff beneath it stopping it from clicking into place, but its not like anything new has been added! Any ideas? Advice on easily clipping the backpiece on again?
Hi I've a problem with the L2 tigger. For some reason it won't close down on the left side where the L1 & L2 are. I did everything seem right. But I get an gap between l1 l2 it doesn't close down and click like you did in the video.
Hey my controller says sixaxis and duakshock 3, Which is it, and when i opened it my R1 and R2 buttons and all that crap wernt attached like yours is why
I was having trouble with the shoulder trigger springs my internet was slow as hell while I waited this to load I was trying to get the springs in place and I did it accidentally but still a cool video
I like how most videos say full assemble but no video has yet showed how to assemble the L/R 1/2 ... :( that's what I need..
ik man its pissing me off
It's a real pain in the ass. It took my tones of try, to manage to assembly those properly.
The702Ghost exactually
have you found a vid yet? I stil need help
This is how you do the l1 and r2 it's essay all you have to do is cry on the floor because you upset you can't do it and because you have to buy a new controller because you smashed it on the floor

9 years later and it still helps people. Thanks for the help dude!
Yep
i can not get the l2 and r2 buttons in.................................argggg
yoKozzyy i know right
When I was reseating mine, I wasn't sure how the spring went, but it last against the mounting mechanism. Also one of my trigger mounts actually popped out too and I had to snap it back in. Took a minute because I was being mindful to be gentle, but eventually it all clicked together.
Put the spring on the outside
Agree
The springs have both "legs" "mounting"/"straddling" the corresponding flat white plastic part then snap the round pivot end of the trigger into its slot and it should work
When I got to the triggers after spending 2 hours on them I raged and busted my controller :(
Got it back together, took me about an hour. The triggers are a real pain. Thanks for the tutorial.
Thanks! I was having extreme trouble closing the backplate and you made me realise the R/L2 buttons had to sit on the side slots.
MAN! Was struggling with the L2/R2 this video helped me finally close that demon
took me probably 20+ attempts to get the shell back on, it kept knocking the triggers off, but eventually got it, cheers for the help !
This video saved me so much time and so many headaches. Thank you so much (all the way from Ireland!)
rip my ps3 controller lol
whoopsy
thanks bro,i was having trouble puttn mt bk together and my r2 triggs came apart from the plastic circuit and the rubber bumber piece.that was biggest pain gettn to fit bk together but your vid was the only one tht showed how to put bk in the r2 buttons if came off.so thanks alot man your vid helped ALOT!!!!

Dude appreciate it I was about to give up lol the back triggers were pissing me off
Thank god this exists, taking the controller apart was easy.
Thanks bud got my controller properly assembled within 5 minutes thanks to your video, last time I took it apart I spent over an hour trying to put it together again and the L1 and L2 didn't work properly at all afterwards.
Thank you. You helped me get my controller back together. Signed old gamer guy.
Can you do a tutorial on the buttons?( painting)
Thank you for your help MattCarl. I was needing an instruction to reassemble the controller and it´s finally done :)
Thank you, I just did some cleaning of my PS3 Pad (the X key became a bit wobbly - all it required was cleaning the key chute) and I panicked as I couldn't close it back into place because of the trigger keys. Your video helped my to fix it, and probably saved me some good £30 :)
I lost my 2:18 light redirect peice, can anyone please send a link for one of these.
My control has some plastic thing and where do i put them there are by the L1 and L2 triggers?
Thank you! My buttons had come off with the bottom cover and for a moment I had no idea how to get the buttons out and the springs back in place.
im having trouble finding a battery with the risers do they not make them anymore ?
The back of the controller doesn't snap back on the left side properly but it's fine on the right. This makes the left R2 button stick and has a lot of resistance when trying to spring back up.

strange for me, nothing poppet in to the right place after 6:11
took mine apart to replace a broken spring and clean it (to see if that fixes some movement issues), but the back cover will not reattach.
it'll get partway on, but the rear triggers will get stuck or those parts on the case will fly off forcing me to start over.

I've been at this for hours and I just CANNOT understand what I'm doing wrong. Is seems there's always L2 is fine until I tighten the screws then it fucks up and seems stiff
What do you use if you don't have the tiny little screwdriver?
what way it right side up? Do the 3 parts that stick out face the D-Pad buttons or not
Does the model of the ps3 controller make a difference? I'm trying to swap the internals of one controller that was chewed by a dog with the case of another controller? The vibrators don't seem to fit
But wen I put the trigger there's a mettle stick warped around the trigger and that stops it from pressing and do u know how to fix a ps3 control couse mine my sister dropped soda and it still works but it only works with charger o do u know how to fix it
can you make me a controller that says wrestling on the back and ExG on the front how much would you charge
if you spray paint your controller buttons will it effect the remote at all
Are the L1 and R1 buttons supposed to be sticking out a bit, cuz mine arent
No one seems to show how to get the rubber pads for the triggers back into that plastic guide, if it pops out. That happened to me and it is A REAL pain. I can get it back in correctly

I need help with vibrate assembly cuz I want to switch the shells
How would u fix the clip for the second bumper
Did you paint the cover. If so you probably painted over the little part where the light shines through.
Bro I was trying this but my controller's R/L2 assembly is different and I cannot get them in
Hey, i have a serious problem! I can't take the shell off because there is a screw that has round head so now i would like to put it back together but the battery is on the way... help?
i am planning to dissasemble my controller its the same as this so could you make a video of that?
This is not full reassembly. L2 and R2 triggers are already in place? lol.
He shows you how stupid
@GavinEaster there should be a small hole on the back of the controller look for it and get a paperclip or thumb tack and stick it in there and you should here a noise then just hook it up to your ps3 and it should turn on

do you need the vibraters in the controller?
ive got a question, im planing on painting mine since, for some reason the buttons are stiff and dpad's loose, when i take it apart could i fix it?
Thank you for posting. It showed me what to do with the two plastic clips I could not work out where they came from. Turned out they were to hold the battery in place (which I had just replaced with one which is not held in place with a sticky foam pad).
I have a question how come for the dpad i cant fit the plastic it comes with
@theherpalex a wire might have come off u might hav 2 do a bit of soldering
Looking at how bright white his rubbers are; reminded me that like my controller, I too am old now
Dude.. when you showed how to disassemble it, you used a SIXAXIS controller.. I'm having problems taking out the rumble and I have the same controller you used on this, the Dualshock. How did you take it out? can you at least describe it?

@mattcarlbmwz3
When I finished reassembling the controller, the L2 and R2 triggers will not fully return to their up position. Any help?
Have you ever put yours back together an have the R1 Not fire in a game? Every other button works but that R1? Just wondering...
How do you spray paint the buttons with out them sticking
you need to make sure that all of the ends of the ribbon are lines up with the pegs. the pegs have to go through the hols and stay there
Thanks a lot! I was having trouble clipping it back together this really helped 👍
I took it apart myself and when i did a bar and what looks like a curled, thin metal piece fell with it (these are from the L and R buttons) how can i put these back?
Can u put a six axis back on a DualShock 3
hey if the vibration motors arent connected will the controller not work pls answer asap!!
The dpad has a 3 armed thing I couldn't but it in right and now it sucks
Does it matter how the white botton pads (the pad that goes under the square, circle, triangle, etc bottons go) go into or does it have to be the same where it was before disassembly?
The last tip is the best tip 👍🏽
my l2 and r2 buttons have ted into place but when i put on the backplate, they feel like they have no spring and they feel abit limp, any help??? :(
I did this but the red lights keep flashing and won't assign a controller.
yeah, i've got a question, i've seen multiple videos of the R2 button not being removed from the plastic thing (don't know what they call it -_-" sorry), so my questions is, can they be removed? and will it actually do damage if it's removed?
Thanks dude, this was so helpful
Very help full,
Once you see it,
it is very easy .
Thanks M8

Were to find spray paint in Jamaica
I've resembled my controller, everything working but the two bottom buttons 1/2 are quite stiff. but work. An the left hand side hand grip isn't completely

hey mannice video.. got a questiontho i have this problem when playing shooters.. when i press the run key l3 often my player takes or does something that should only happen with the arrowpad.. so there is a conflict with the left joystick and the arrows pad.. how can i fix this? it annoys me greatly:(

there is a green strip that goes under it.

Hey Matt , I was dissassembling my controller because the buttons were jammed and I saw a three pronged black plastic thing it was shaped like T and there was a hole where the roads met what do I do with it?!?!?!?!?
I am trying to put the back cover back on. Problem is the L2 trigger seem to conflict. I try without the L2 and it clip fine.
This really helped me with the triggers
for some reason, my r1 and l1 buttons don't seem to have the full range of motion after reassembly. they barely stick out.
nice color how did you make this?
if one of the springs are missing can it still be put together and work
When I have assembled everything back together and in the right order but I simply CANNOT get the back to clip back on! The left side (when it is face down) seems like its got too much stuff beneath it stopping it from clicking into place, but its not like anything new has been added! Any ideas? when i put mine back together, it wont turn on as if my ps button isn't working? the controller charges when it's plugged in.. any help?
Hi I've a problem with the L2 tigger. For some reason it won't close down on the left side where the L1 & L2 are. I did everything seem right. But I get an gap between l1 l2 it doesn't close down and click like you did in the video.
Where do I put the spring ???
does the spray paint make them sticky ?
How do I attach the L1 L2 R1 R2 Back with the green tape?
How do you color the buttons

Why do the R1 L1 don't have the same feel as before did i do something wrong? Please answer
This helped out a lot thanks man.
Nice controller! Great video too
HA! yup had same problem with green circuit thing coming off the trigger piece,it sucked to fix!
what do you line the spring up with
You didn’t show how to get the triggers back in when it’s been fully removed including the contact pad
Hey my controller says sixaxis and duakshock 3, Which is it, and when i opened it my R1 and R2 buttons and all that crap wernt attached like yours is why
