I think Rebirth‘s gameplay was a lot more interesting, since 16 was a tad too easy. But story and experience wise, I‘d say 16 was better or rather more round up. They didn‘t do as much as they did on Rebirth. They did a lot of unnecessary stuff on Rebirth, for me at least

You’re absolutely right about the pacing, that’s an oversight on my part. I remember right before the final mission being bombarded with a bunnccchhh of side quests, but it’s as you said-despite its flaws, I can’t help myself from loving this game!
@@bonnod4660omg the side quests before the finale, I love this game, but doing that regions content before ending the game so killed its pacing for me…
FF16 is still my third favorite FF game, because when it hits, it hits hard. But the lows are also the worst in the series. The side quests and main story fetch quests where its obvious that an mmo developer designed this game. “You killed a godlike creature, congrats, now go and pick flowers for 2 hours”. Great video man! As someone who made a year later video on FFXVI, I think you pretty much summed this game up very well. I regularly come back to this game just to practice combos and such, and you can definitely tell that the game was actually supposed to be much more challenging and complex, given the accessibility rings, but somewhere along the development it's clear they held back for the sake of older fans and non-fans of action games who just wanted the story experience of FF16. Did they do the best to implement their systems and difficulty? Probably not. I always say to people that the enemy design and difficulty were the two major things that held back the very flexible combat system here. However, despite its many flaws, I still believe FF16 to be a very solid FF that harkens back to traditional vibes while providing something fresh.
The combat would be a lot better without the mmo inspired cool downs on abilities. It just ends up feeling like you're doing the same thing on rotation which is fine in an mmo but in an action game, i want options and freedom. Should have had resources like MP to balance the abilities. Also, Titans parry just being not as fun "royal guard" is a big missed opportunity.

It's got plenty of good things about it but it also has plenty of bad things about it. The biggest issues I have are with the story and exploration, which is bad for a game that _really_ wants to be about the story. CS3's writer line-up imho needs to go through some revisions. Ishikawa, who is practically their only consistently good/competent writer, wasn't assigned to this project in any capacity, and her absence is very noticeable. Ishikawa being their only good writer is also a problem in general that they need to address going forward, but I'm thinking they probably won't bother because, lately, CS3 seems too proud to handle criticism, which is a shame because 10 years ago this was a studio that was famous for listening to fan feedback, and also for being the frontrunners of maintaining consumer goodwill. It was practically what the FFXIV brand name was built off of, but now that seems to be an aspect that's fading away. I really hope they make a comeback. This studio has tons of potential, but lately, they seem to be dragging their feet in complacency and pride, and if they don't watch themselves, they'll just become the next Blizzard.
The thing with 16 is... its good.. but its not (for me) great. (FF7, FF8, FF6, FF10 or FF9/FFT) I like the combat, but its not so addicting I need to turn on my ps5 and play it now. The ost is good, but as much as i hated that game ffxv had a better ost. Soken's great, but so is shimomura. The story is cool if you haven't watched game of thrones, you're probably going to be enticed by it, but if you have its game of thrones lite. Never did the DLC. Side quests are good for world building, boring for reward purposes. Most rewards suck. You nailed it with the bahamut laser beam thing. The issue with a skill ceiling if its not needed, why use it? If Street Fighter could be beaten by spamming hadouken, why learn to combo. Also disagree with party members having impact. In fodder fights, absolutely. But they cannot beat bosses or finish any story battle. Infact I ACTUALLY don't know if they damage bosses, (except for torgul). But I literally had two party members on a boss whail on it for hours. Never beat it.
Not only that but the game of thrones stuff dies fast. The story pretty much dies when Clive works out who he is, it’s awesome to that point. But after that it just becomes a bit of a slog with all the travelling to uninteresting samey looking places to meet uninteresting samey looking characters.
@@jaybee4288 agreed. The story demo that had everyone hyped and raving about how good the game is was the best part of the story. The second best is the scenes with the climax of those plot points.
I think it had one of the hottest starts in the whole series if not gaming. But sadly after about the third dungeon the game was pretty much done and everything became very grindy and samey. Really long middle section. I think if they’d not overdone it with the sidequests and they had more interesting subplots than the preachy refugee stuff, and also added in more party members it could have been great. But it was good, was able to finish it so it can’t have been all bad. No desire to come back for the dlc though.
The story is Amazing, I'm sure many people would disagree literally just to jerk off the earlier games in the series. I generally think most final fantasys deliver a good game, I personally didn't like FF15 that much as the general complaints about it on launch seem incredibly fair. The combat is somewhat fun, I'll will admit I do believe there is stuff that could be done alittle better, I believe Rebirth has basically almost mastered the combat formula. The game main weakness is it does feel incredibly linear. Some people want it to be "turn based again", which with the shear saturation of Turn based games this year alone, I don't crave the need for even more.
Just because I think the story is garbage doesn't mean that me or anyone else is stuck loving the older games. The story in XVI is just bad.
