It’s so interesting watching your perception of the foods but I will say there is a big difference between homemade vs packaged foods that your trying. Maybe you can really splurge and hire a chef to cook a traditional American Christmas dinner for your parents. Please film as much as you can while they’re visiting. I know that I’d love to see the people that brought such an amazing person into the world.
Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Funeral foods are definitely a thing here in the US and it varies with region and ethnicity. Kinda like a church potluck where everyone brings a dish of food... I believe the original idea was that the family wouldn't have to concern themselves with daily chores during their time of mourning...

I think your green bean casserole needed some help. I mix shredded sharp cheddar, a splash of Worcester sauce and a dash of garlic powder in with the green beans (I like the French cut) and mushroom soup. Sprinkle the crunchy onions on top and bake until hot and melted. Its best eaten hot.

Funeral foods are a real thing. When someone dies, people bring over tons and tons of food for the family. It sounds weird, but it really helps the family. It gives the family one less thing to worry about and there are always people coming over to pay their respects so there's lots of food.

It's not fair to make judgment on canned foods and a dried ham that's not how we cook our American dinners if you only knew some people who know how to cook and see what it really should taste like and look like then maybe you can be you can make a better judgment on it but really anyone who could cook would not eat that crap that you are showing so to make a dinner like that for your family would not do them any service because you don't know really what it's supposed to taste like or look like it's it's really sad that you would know how good it really is if it was made from someone who can cook and it's a little bit disservice to our food when you're judging from can and boxes and you're trying to cook something that you really don't know how to cook but would love to see what your family would think even though they really are not going to have a for real Christmas American dinner

My family’s meal was turkey, my moms dressing balls (made with sausage), green bean casserole, mashed potatoes and gravy, butternut squash, and date or cranberry steamed pudding for dessert. I am a country girl from the southern US. Some of those dishes have never made it to my Christmas dinner in 60 years. I eat corn bread both sweet( Yankee style) and savory (Southern style) but at other times of the year. Dinner rolls are for Christmas. Casseroles are a Christmas item and they vary depending on your favorite veg. Mac and cheese or Potatoes and a savory gravy (not sausage) along with Ham or a roast as the chosen meat. At my house pudding ( banana) and pies (pecan, apple raisin spice or maybe a berry) are for dessert. The sugar cookies are made for Santa the night before and only served if there are left overs. Truly depends on the meat (main dish) as to what gets paired with it. Most things are made fresh and not from a can or box. Huge difference in flavor.

My family is from the midwest (NW Indidana) We ususally have Turkey and Ham for Christmas. We have mashed potatoes, gravy, pork sausage stuffing, corn, greenbeans with bacon, sweet potato casserole or sweet potatoes with a buttery brown sugar sauce, and cheddar biscuits or croissants. We try to make most of the dishes from recipes passed down from family traditions.

One thing to keep in mind that not everyone serves the same thing for Christmas dinner. I've personally never known anyone who served cornbread with Christmas dinner. Collard greens are good (although never been part of any Christmas dinner I've had), but definitely don't get them from a can. No one in my family likes green bean casserole. And as far as biscuits and gravy, it's something I love, but never with Christmas dinner. By the way, I can only imagine that canned gravy is gross. Homemade sausage gravy is so good...and it's white because it's milk based. Personally, our big family Christmas meal (shared on Christmas eve) is lasagna, garlic bread, and salad. Christmas day, we go to a movie and Chinese buffet.

Fun video. It is always interesting watching your responses to our foods. Our usual Christmas dinner is turkey, ham (with a glaze mix of orange juice, pineapple juice and brown sugar), mashed potatoes, gravy, sausage cranberry dressing, green beans, corn, cheesy broccoli rice casserole, sweet potatoes, 7 layer salad, deviled eggs, and choices of rolls...croissant, yeast rolls, Hawaiian rolls. There can be multiple choices of casseroles...depends on who all is showing up and what they choose to bring. Gravy...never use a mix or canned gravy...it's a wonder you survived...lol. There are some good videos about how to make southern gravy. They are usually served with buttermilk biscuits. And it is white because it is milk and flour based. You can also do the same kind of gravy using fried chicken or cubed/country fried steak drippings. Sweet potatoes...there are so many varieties. My parents used to grow 8 different kinds...all were good though, but some were more suited for savory seasonings. There can be some drastic differences in traditional foods depending on the region of the country you are in.
EDIT: Greens, cornbread, pork or thick bacon, and black-eyed peas or lentils are usually a southern New Years day meal that's supposed to bring good luck.

I'm born and raised a American but I don't celebrate holidays. In America are food and people are a melting pot of different cultures. I agree with most of what you had to sayed about the food. I use cream corn as a substitute for gravy over mashed potatoes. Cookies can be soft or crunchy. The white gravy is good over soft fluffy biscuits but I agree brown gravy is delicious also not on biscuits. I prefer the cranberry jelly not the one with the fruit lumps in it. Some people do eat mince pie in the USA. I would love to see your parents' reactions to your favorite foods from the USA. 👍🤗

Ive also never had the gravy stuff. I don't do corn bread at holidays. To me, that goes with pan fish. Love mav and cheese, but also not a holiday food. I think the holiday meal really is regional. (Also, my parents are German immigrants, so I'm sure that influenced what I got used to while growing up). My son LOVES Lofthouse sugar cookies. I find them bizarre. 2.) You don't have to apologize for your opinions. People who are hurt because you don't care for foods they like are most likely just looking for reasons to be offended.
3.) If you video'd your Christmas dinner, I think that would be fun to watch.
4.) I know you mentioned adding chocolate chips to the cornbread; well, I had an aunt who liked to stir fresh blueberries or blackberries into the mix and serve it as a breakfast side (cut up into squares, just the way you had it) and it was fantastic.

Cornbread is great! I enjoy it alone, with a bowl of chili, in Stuffing, or even heated up in a bowl with some milk (like cereal). Also, keep in mind that all the items are meant to eat together on one plate (not one at a time). The flavors are meant to compliment each other, like Thanksgiving dinner items. :) Merry Christmas, Raphael. Edit: Most people that take the time to make a traditional Christmas dinner, usually make it all from scratch. A can of something-something is not going to be truly representative of a real holiday dish.

Born and raised American (minus 3 years in Germany) and I'm totally with you on the green bean casserole. It's one of those dishes promoted by canned soup companies. I substitute green beans almondine (haricots verts amandine) with my holiday meals. Corn bread isn't always sweet. There's a sort of divide between the North and South or the South and Southwest on this. In the Southwest the cornbread is often more savory and even spicier with jalapeño. The spiced ham, stuffing, cranberry and sweet potato dishes and egg nog were all specifically holiday dishes but the other dishes are staples of any of my family gatherings, even during the Summer. We also have deviled eggs a lot with any big family celebration.
