I remember this vividly. Local radio station played this recording and used Danger Zone music in background. Was a big deal then because at the time we as Americans weren't used to hearing any REAL air-to-air combat for years. And not at ALL for us younger ones -I was just 22. So only in movies did we see such things. But ever since Iraq we became "accustomed" to hearing and seeing real combat --and bombings too.

I believe that is VFA-31 squadron on the JFK and it is was I was probably on the flight deck as a 'ready' in the back seat of an F14d model. I did 4 trips to the Med so I'm not 100% sure....that and I'm old and can't remember shyte anymore.
last time i was in the air is like 10 years ago. forgive me english, i forgot how these things was called. but i think its the hardlock of a sidewinder heatseaker missle. voice signal for the pilot that the missle is ready. hardlock, that thing thats moving arround in the hud, untill it gets locked.
Angels is altitude. Nothing to do with friendlies. Friendlies are identified as "friendly," unknown is "Bogey," Hostile is "Hostile" or "Bandit." Their brevity was correct.

Amazing how what we view as a long distance (61 miles) is a short distance in the fighter jet theatre.
Especially with aim-7’s on your stations
these are nautical miles btw
When you go 600 miles an hour, it's a mile every 6 seconds
@@mrblank-zh1xy Word! Just eating up miles like snacks.
dont forget you got 2 groups flying into each other. at mach 1 it would be 30 seconds.

Kinda funny how pilot breaks away from all the formal terminology and out of urgency just says "shoot him!" 5:00

it's actually "oh, Jesus!" from Gypsy 207's pilot Conelly
