Great Video! I have had a lifelong dream of building a Log Cabin and now that Im retired, Im going to do it. I have been doing a lot of research on How To Build A log Cabin and after viewing this video, I know that this tool will be just what I need to help me with my Cabin project. Thanks-Tim in MI.
Great tool for a squared cant or timber to produce boards. I'm currently using a Granberg mini mill which has similar setup initially, but this Logosol would be much quicker once you have a square surface.
It really does seem like a great attachment to use on an already squared log. Better, in fact, than most chainsaw mills I've seen/used. But there are far better chainsaw systems for squaring the log that don't require as much tedium in terms of setup. They also don't cost thousands of dollars. More like 2-3 times what this cost. If you plan on making a lot of lumber I'd recommend getting a different setup for squaring and then this one to cut boards. Looks awesome for the final step!
For those of you who couldn't handle a day of work in your life, keep your comments to yourself. This product works great and is meant for the DIYs out there that have the ambition and the backbone to do an honest day's work. Let me put it another way, if you voted for Obama, this product might not be for you.
The best ripping setup is a 3/8" blade with 1.3 mm (0.050") drive link guage, and a low profile (Stihl: "Picco") chain, made for ripping (teeth angle 0-10 degrees as opposed to 25-35 degrees). That setup gives you the narrowest kerf, and thus the highest cutting speed. The blade/chain I use are: Blade: Stihl Duromatic, 25" part no. 3003 000 5531. Chain: Stihl 63 PMX 84 (3/8" low profile ripping chain, 84 drive links, 1.3 mm drive link gauge), part no. 3999 000 0084.
this tool looks like there is more preparation that productive work...I must admit though I am impressed with the speed at which the chainsaw cuts the lumber once everything is set up....I would buy one of these if the set up could be simplified
Come here to see how I can use my Stihl 660. Found a lot of MURICA!!! in the commentary fields. Guess it takes too much brainpower for some people to understand that you need the right tool for the right situation. And that this is a demonstration that shows HOW we can use it. We dont HAVE to use it this way. I'm actually going to be a radical and use this to cut 6'' beams instead of 2 cm boards. Because of transportation costs.
Yeah you want a ripping chain. Designed to cut with the grain, not across. Leaves a smooth surface, as opposed to a normal chain leaving a relly rouch cut
For a one man operation, this is an inexpensive means by which you can add value to your product. Gives you another production day when you cant get into the woods
@VonKaNon Said perfectly, I bought a 1.5 acre lot. The land had a crap load of oak, bought myself one of these Chainsaw's and going to utilize the oak for hardwood flooring. Sure beats the hell out of trucking the wood to a sawmill or calling up one and paying the price to come out. I'm a carpenter and defiantly saw the quality in this product, great buy.
From another perspective: Chainsaws are for the lazy. Why not pack in a shovel, dig a pit, and get that pit saw to work. That's nothing a 3 man crew can't tackle in a day.
not to knock the nice job thats doing and the simplicity of that method but i can use boards and screws to make 1 jig that goes on and negates the need to move your jig for each side which makes the job take 4 times as long....
Den här Timmerjigg är mycket bra och han är också mycket snygg. I sawed my first log, a 10 inch basswood. Couldn't find a long screw on the place, so I used 8d nails. They worked. A new chain went through the basswood like butter, but there is the skill in holding up on the trigger handle to cut the same thickness across the board. I made 1/2 inch boards to practice. This Timmer-yigg is a slick tool for the money.
I'm now sawing maple 2x10" planks from 20" logs. I need to redeck some trailers. With a Stihl ripping chain it goes very slowly and you get covered in fine sawdust. That was on a Jonsered 2171. With a new regular chisel chain on my 395XP it goes faster with coarser sawdust but there is more ridging, a rougher board. I fill my gas tank every 8' cut and the oil every other cut, and file every log. The accuracy is very good but sometimes the ends aren't cut perpendicular and clamping the guides don't match so good. It's more work to try to get something good out of cull logs, but I sold the good ones. I love these Logosol videos and watch them over and over. Great inspiring music and especially like the Swedish ones and the scenery.
The chainsaw blade isn't THAT much thicker than a circular or ban saw that you can really complain about waste! You may lose a one inch board out of a big log, but it is still WAY cheaper than paying for someone else's labour! Of course, we all know you hippies are scared to do a little work for yourselves and would rather use welfare money to just buy boards that are already sawn. For those of us with a little self respect and common sense, chainsaw mills work just fine! Great product!
I fail to see what voting for Obama has to do with an honest day's work. I spent four hours with my buddy milling cedar today with a homemade sawmill, and we both voted for the president. Making snide political comments like that just fuels the partisan hatred seemingly so prevalent in our country right now. I work hard next to Republicans, Democrats, independents, and all sorts, and the one thing that unites as Americans is our respect for a hard day's work. Tom
The cost of consumables for the chainsaw (gas, oil, chains, bars), plus burning up the chainsaw itself, will be expensive as is the time. Better to rent a bandsaw mill...
Just bought a Rancher 460 to help out the mighty Stihl 026P. Von.. is right, "community organizer" and "timber" never belong in the same sentence. Dems love to run from work, just look at Wisconsin...hahahhaha
@VonKaNon somehow I doubt political affiliation and work ethic are related. but I agree with you, people should keep most of their comments to themselves. bless the internet.
This product is for people who will invest more time, in lieu of more money, on a way to cut a few boards for themselves. What the heck do you guys expect for $150??? We are all aware of faster ways to mill lumber, but they also cost thousands of dollars more!! It's comparing apples to oranges! As far as chainsaw mills are concerned, this is the best I've seen. So, unless you're talking out your arse, go buy an expensive mill and stop leaving retarded comments about this one!
One word, Husqvarna. I peronally think that stihl is a piece of junk, I'm not a professional lumber jack, but as much as I can say and feel, Husqvarna!
that setup is way overkill on the first-cut...a cedar 2x6 and some long drywall screws with an alaskan mill would be 10x faster and sufficient..(especially in pine...sheesh.)
you're crazy, why would a modern self respecting person need this? just save up enough unemployment or food stamps and pay an illegal immigrant to do it
I didn't vote for Obama, but pushing politics aside, which is where they belong when talking about a f***ing CHAINSAW MILL, the setup on this one looks like a real pain in the ass. I like how they just time-lapsed between when he started screwing in those end boards to when he finished the setup. No thanks. I'll keep my Alaskan, it's much easier.
Now this guy knows what he is doing, respects the chainsaw and creates quality boards that are easy to transport. Quality!

It looks like it takes some time to get set up, but in the end, there are some very nice quality planks there.
I bought a brand new husky the other day. It works like a champ. Makes a great boat anchor!

I like the way it's so slow, that the wood is already cured before you're done cutting it.
Ha ha. 'Humoah. 'Love it.

I’d like to commend you for this comment 12 years on
Nice saw! and chain too! I don't think I've ever seen a chainsaw millcsetup cut so fast. Well done video and great info.

got the timber jig this week and it works well very happy with what i got in the UK and now cant wait to up date it soon
lumbering-up that timber! Finish logs and kit homes are the best!!!
this tool looks like there is more preparation that productive work...I must admit though I am impressed with the speed at which the chainsaw cuts the lumber once everything is set up....I would buy one of these if the set up could be simplified
The first part with doing the log square looks pretty time consuming, but the rest is faster then the other portable chainsaw mills i've seen.

now STIHL saw have
another job i like your inventions
great vid
For a one man operation, this is an inexpensive means by which you can add value to your product. Gives you another production day when you cant get into the woods
The alaskan mill when combined with the alaskan mini mill can do the same thing with more precision. I think it's much better.
very awesome video, very portable sawmill
It beats the snot out of a two man buck saw any day ..
wow 5 boards aday!! in like 2 years he can build a shed!
I voted for Obama twice and I love this.

Good demo
Looks very easy to run
Nice work, what's in your thermos?
where can i get a setup for my stihl ms660 magnum to make boards? like the thing he put on the saw blade
@hydeph Nailed it. Some folks do politics 24/7 and are denser between the ears than the wood they cut.
This is a great product. Thank you
how much does that cost and what kind of stihl does that run on
this is awesome thanks for sharing
what size saw are you using?
That takes so much time it seems not worth it unless you have nothing else to do and plenty of time to build a home
What´s the name of this precise product?
Alat memudahkan pekerjaan 👍👍👍
how is the smallest logosaw sawmill called, and where can I buy it online ?
can he do the tongue and groove with that chainsaw too?
Anyone know the model of the chainsaw and jig/adapter used? Thanks.
It seems a bit fiddly. If it came with a rig that just clamped to either end you would really have something here.
i wander whats in his flask?

Tom
you need a longer bar and a 6 pack of beer to do that
That's the Basic Kit they show at the end.
The cost of consumables for the chainsaw (gas, oil, chains, bars), plus burning up the chainsaw itself, will be expensive as is the time. Better to rent a bandsaw mill...
3 days later ;)
Just bought a Rancher 460 to help out the mighty Stihl 026P. Von.. is right, "community organizer" and "timber" never belong in the same sentence. Dems love to run from work, just look at Wisconsin...hahahhaha
The hard way gave you a thumbs up
good work, but surely took forever. for large jobs not practical
@VonKaNon somehow I doubt political affiliation and work ethic are related. but I agree with you, people should keep most of their comments to themselves. bless the internet.
@VonKaNon "Let me put it another way, if you voted for Obama, this product might not be for you." I almost fell over lol...Nice simple DIY Kit
Excelent :)
Set up times are too long for me.
@mortenhattesen thanks for the tips, much appreciated.
This takes forever and you have to buy wood to make it work then screw it on and will only get about the amount of wood you used out of it
Yes, you need two planks, and you even need a chainsaw, how bad is that! (And you also need a few brain cells, but then it works quite well...)
Hell yeah!

Way too much work involved just to mill a few boards even for a chainsaw mill.
i think i will continue to get my lumber at home depot
Enjoy the warped standard sizes.
Jon Simmons
@cody337 Some people just can't turn it off. If one is looking for a fight they will always find it.
@unseenwombat definitely...this setup is absurd
all that for one cut.
@VonKaNon Most Excellent Post!
Would sell in Alaska. But in lower 48 states people are too lazy. They would go to the store and pay for convince.
где купить приспособление

You're an ass Fred, stupid comment....
@VonKaNon
Now THAT"S funny ...and OH SO VERY TRUE!!
one lomber half day top speed
i'll buy my lumber from a local saw mill, probably would take 4hrs for a lousy 6 boards. what a waste of money, unless you lived way out in the woods

i could do this kind of work ALL DAY LONG, if i would get paid fair!
@VonKaNon HA!!
