I personally like the idea that the fruit will avoid anyone trying to eat it other than those that truely seek to be free. As a result of that desire it’s unable to change their intentions in a way to stop it getting eaten. That’s why luffy ate it.
I prefer that it can only be eaten if you want to eat a regular fruit and not want power.

I never saw Luffys status as a 'chosen one.' it was always more like he earned it, and his JoyBoy status was bestowed upon him for being finally 'worthy' in a sense. He wasn't destined to wear the crown, he was just the perfect catalyst. Then again, that's just my perspective.
My theory is seeing as it gives things the properties of rubber the fruit itself was so rubbery it couldnt be bitten into until it chose someone it wanted to be eaten by.
Which is why shanks crew didnt have a user of the fruit, none of them could eat it

It should took him 3 days to recover, but he managed to do it only for 20 hours. that's some reason xtreme regeneration power. probably yes he's shortening his own lifespan but luffy's lifespan has been unknown, probably longer than average guys considering his massive life force.
Wasn’t Luffy’s life shortened because the Gears were straining his body too hard? Like Pre-Haki Gear 2 pushed his body into maximum overdrive resulting in his life span shortening. Unless Gear 5 heals Luffy I’m pretty sure nothing would change but the drawback’s of the Gears are lessened or outright nullified.
I hope I get to see a separate, full arcs dedicated to Nika, Joy Boy, Void Century, Imu-sama. There's just so much mysteries to fill.

The way I see it is his fruit is " freedom"
Gear 1. : Freedom of the body
Gear 2 :freedom of the mind(the gears)
Gear 3 : freedom of the world (gear 5)
The reason the government can never get it is because they're trying to control the world the opposite of freedom so the fruit rejects it and finds the " free-est" person

Gomu Gomu. Can strech out of the old skin and become something bigger (symbol of freedom). The world government can disguise the fruit all they want. The hito-hito model: nika IS freedom. It's basically impossible to hide the fruits true nature since all of its powers symbolies freedom. The users also get a will to become the most "free-est" man ever. We can see that with how luffy wanted to become pirate king. Not because of the money. But because he wanted to be the free-est man. This could all be a coincedance but idk.
my impression is the Gomu-Gomu no Mi is a fairly well known devil fruit and has had many users, none had the inherit nature of Luffy and couldn't unlock to true nature of the fruit, plus I think the WG makes a point of giving those people enough of a bounty that they'd be likely to be taken out before they get too powerful remember it took Luffy 10 years to get good at using his fruit what if it was eaten by an adult already active in piracy it wouldn't be that good. Luffy had the good fortune to come from a powerful family, and have the time to strengthen himself and get used to his new rubbery nature relatively unmolested. But Luffy didn't do all these amazing things because of being joyboy, he became Joyboy because he did all those amazing things he lived up the the legacy of Joyboy and inherited it's will. Any one else will just be rubbery and probably killed young.
i think luffy couldn't control his fruit fully at the beginning cause he didn't know what his fruit actually was most people got a hang of it quickly cause they know what the fruit was and what it does but luffy didn't know the truth

I think you're right a theory is that once a DF is eaten the name and abilities are magically pooped into your head, I think that these fruits are for the most part well documented, and if there not most DF have a fairly straight forward ability so the name comes naturally. But mythical zoans don't act like normal zoans they have paramecia abilities no if it's animal based like a dragon or a Phoenix it's easy to figure out but Luffy Has a Human based fruit so he's a human/nika hybrid which can stretch meaning that there was no reason to think he has something other than a paramecia. But the only other similar Paramecia power we've seen is Diamond Jozu's fruit so we don't now if he struggled to effectively use his fruit(I suppose Daz Bones as well), but those guys could turn off their abilities I suppose Buggy is permanently on and he can struggle with it even after 20 years with the fruit.
i agree with your statement, fate in one piece works differently than how we know it in typical heros journey stories, and the way fate works is determined by the will of the person in said role. in the case of luffy as you said, if it werent for him pushing himself to those points, nika wouldnt have been awakened
I have a theory relating to the gomu gomu no mi or more correctly the hito hito no mi, model: nika
All previous users of the fruit were of a different race, while we don't know the exact race of the first user as the first user is obviously whoever the silhouette of Nika is, we can deduce that if Nika is a Warrior of Liberation than its previous users would have been of a different race each. For example i believe Joyboy was of the Giant race as shown by the giant straw hat we've seen
and potentially there may have been a fishman, skyfolk or lunarian user as well

im guessing roger was looking for the gomu gomu, and you awaken a devil fruit from understanding it better, so you need a great amount of desire for FREEDOM to awaken the gomu gomu. Thats why people that know about the gomu gomu see luffys desire for freedom as AMAZING and know that he has the potential to awaken the fruit.

There are a lot of one piece fans who would do well to watch this video and stop getting getting disappointed when their own headcanon doesn’t come true. This was a refreshing take on everything.
Also I think the meaning of them saying the fruit has been evading them might just mean that a pirate had probably always been the one to eat the fruit and not someone under their control like a marine so every time the fruit appeared it was a pirate to eat it
I don't think they want anyone to eat it. If the user dies, the fruit has to be found again.

In the manga atleast the translation I read they said it had awakened in centuries not that it hadn't been eaten in centuries
It's very well possible that others had eaten it they just never pushed it to the point of an awakening they lived and died and passed it to someone else never knowing its true nature

The point of the video was outlining the reasons why it's unlikely that the fruit has been eaten in a long time, at least the span of the current Gorosei's life time. Based on what we know of devil fruits currently.

Yes Luffy was always semi-serious, but outside of any sort of fighting or conflict, he was always smiling. Always ready for the next adventure, the next port, the next friend.
Also, when Luffy suddenly took interest in a book for the first time and gave his crew a heart attack. Was that joy boy or luffy that was interested?

@Creepy Not if Luffy is that way because he inherited Joyboy. Then it invalidates a lot of his character. On the other hand, everything would remain the same if the inheritance didn't actually change Luffy's inner core of identity, but instead just gave him a reason to possess the fruit.
In my honest opinion the will of the fruit is similar to the will of the Ring in LOTR, it act in a similar manner influencing the world around it. For example if an unwanted possible owner has it in his clutches it will luckily lose it, like if it happens at sea it may trigger a storm that would allow it to be lost. Or maybe catching the interest of a third party somehow, like how shanks stole it from the government grasp. Maybe in the future the will of the fruit will shows itself in a more direct manner since it's a mythical Zoan god fruit it could be possible. For now the only thing that could show the will of the fruit is the "rebirth" of Rufy since it could be the effect of the fruit that didn't want to lose his owner just yet (it is my idea it could be easily wrong)
I think unlike naturo becoming God ninja and beating Otsuki, and Ichigo becoming strongest soul reaper so suddenly becuase he's just part quincy and such. Luffy has always been linked to freedom, and referenced in Skypia to the image of Nika, luffy having a mythical Zoan feels strange since we've gone so long saying Gumo Gumo no mi. But I think it's actually a very cool change and the build up has been worth it.

Luffy’s bounty I think depends a TON on how Morgan’s plays his part in the paper. Without a doubt, Luffy will get credit for a 1v1 win vs Kaido I’m sure. Probably credit for leading the raid and all that. Kid and law will get credit for beating big mom.
What’s going to be fun to see is if Luffy’s fruit gets mentioned in any way. If details get explicitly stated by anyone, it’s entirely possible for Morgans to have that info.
Also, I doubt the Gorosei are going to be willing to try to hide the Nika fruit’s existence anymore so they’re probably going all in after Wano. I’m placing my bets at a minimum of 4.5-5b for Luffy. Probably 1.5-2b each for Zoro and Sanji being his wings. Luffy could skyrocket to 5.5b if the WG really just says fuck it though.
If the WG really want a chance at that fruit they will need to kill Luffy. Which means they might even jack up the bounty to 6b or more, without even saying anything about it, just to have all eyes on Luffy. Or if the WG acquire Blackbeard in some crazy plottwist, it sets up Luffy v. Blackbeard for a final showdown.
Either way, this series has me pumped for the journey.

Oddly enough, the fact Luffy actually used a portion of Joy Boy's power in the Stampede movie should have set off warning bells sooner to the World Government. Unless of course, the leaders assumed he was using a lesser form of the Rubber fruit, meaning somewhere else, another person weilds a similar power to Luffy but without Nika's 'potential'.

Just because they had the fruit doesn’t make them son gods. The only two people to awaken the fruit regardless of who had it is Luffy and Joy Boy, they were the two only true son gods.
We don't know the previous joyboy's, Nika was a God who bought peace and joy to everyone that's why he's called joy, Nika= boy.
Since luffy ate Hito Hito nomi which carries the soul of original joyboy(nika) so now luffy is fused with Nika's soul, luffy became joyboy as soon as he ate the fruit, he bought peace, freedom and joy to everyone on his journey but he didn't awakened the original power of himself( Nika's soul and his original transformation of god, for luffy it is a transformation but for the god Nika it was his original form cuz he wasn't human.
Since Nika is a part of luffy now we can say that luffy is the original Nika and there's a possibility for Nika(luffy) to remember his past life
@@Enzo-wx3vw great insight but it’s off slightly. Luffy wasn’t joy boy until he awakened the fruit. He was recognized as joy boy by zunesha as soon as this happened. Meaning past user have eaten the rubber fruit and never been considered joy boy. He had no access to any of that lure until it was awakened. It was just implied through his natural will, way of thinking and actions that he had that potential. Half the people that compared him to joy boy didn’t even know they had the same devil fruit. So why I understand what u saying its just an opinion and the story doesn’t really support your theory.

I think that no one realize this but then someone eats a devil fruit it taste like trash but then luffy ate it he thought it was desert, so maybe if the devil fruit doesn’t choose the person the fruit will take bitter as a result and if it’s someone chosen it would taste horrible

To people who are confused on wether or not Luffy’s life span really is shortened, I think yes but no. Think about it - Luffy DIED to awaken his fruit. So, I believe that this ‘death’ to awakene the fruit was caused by his usage of the gears, and as such - his life is no longer shortened, as he technically already died (that or the timer is reset, as if he never used the gears and the awakening of his fruits removes the strains from the gears, meaning it doesn’t effect him either way).

No. It's directly stated by the Gorosei that it gives the user's body rubber properties. (And then awakening gives their rubber body even more strength and freedom.)

I've been having theories about DF's and such for awhile, that they do have something "Inside of them" such as a Will, and the "Voices" we hear have to do with those wills/souls of a person (hence why Luffy's "Voice" "disappeared," when awakening as Joyboy.
One thought I just had when reading the panel "The fruit is evading us" and it actually talking about the Zoan fruits having the own will.... However, i believe that since Beasts have incredibly strong Vitality, it's possible that comes out more in the fruits themselves.
What if.... Similar to have a DF is reborn from the death of a DF User, what if... The DFs were the "Fruits" of a being's life manifesting itself as a fruit after death.... Similar to a "Succession" we see in Cultivation series.
Each DF represents a being from a past, and the fruit itself was born from the Original Joyboy, and these future JoyBoys are successors of the original.
There is talk of a "Devil Fruit Tree" but it's possible the "Devi Fruit Tree" was just a medium for the souls of the deceased. Remember, there was the "Void Century" where all of History disappeared, and there is no talk that DFs existed before that point. What if, the great battle caused so much chaos, and so much blood was splattered that the blood of these extremely powerful warriors was used as a medium for the tree's growth, and the fruit it bore were the powers/souls of the previous owners. EDIT: I also thought about this while re-reading my post, and adding to it, and I realized it's possible that the Mystical Zoans are actually the original beings' manifested as a fruit, while "Paramecia/Logia" are by-products of the "Devil's/Will's" abilities, that also manifested as fruits. For example, Marco is a Mythical Zoan Phoenix who creates incredible flames, however Ace was just a flame user. Could Marco not turn into fire and be impervious such as Logias/Ace? Could Moria's Shadow ability come from BlackBeard's Darkness fruit? It's possible that the attacks left by the beings were absorbed by the "Tree/soil" as well which created the fruit, i.e., if the Phoenix used a very strong flame and it burned on the ground and the ground absorbed it.... Couldn't it just be it's own fruit? We can also look at this as what happened to Luffy. Luffy thought he was a Paramecia, but in the end he was actually a Mythical Zoan, but only part of his ability was shown, and not his "Full Potential/Actual-self/Awakening." There might be an actual fruit similar to Luffy's out there that represents Luffy/Joyboy's power, such as Katakuri's "Mochi." :END-EDIT
It's also very possible that the strange races and powers we see come from the outside worlds and these abilities come from experts who were able to create their own abilities, or similar to King being a "Lunarian" and possessing immense fire, so could beings posses any number of traits... Remember, Zou and Zuina are all animals.... Zuina could be a peak being from another world as well, or a decendant of an outside world peak being, who carries the last of the "Zoans" (Zou) on his back, and all Zoans belong to this planet or something where Zuina is protecting the last of them. It's also interesting because the "Human Human" fruit Chopper ate, connects him to the Zou races.
It's possible the D's were the original Human Human fruits. Joyboy is also possibly Luffy's Ancestor. It's also possible that Blackbeard's ancestor was in fact Darkness, and the "Yami Yami no Mi" is actually also a Human Fruit... A Human fruit that negates all other DF Abilities, but causes the user to take much more damage as a result. Very odd power, but very powerful as well.
It's also possible that the world gov't and the current OP World was a world that created Haki to counteract these "Outside beings' powers," possibly using the Darkness fruit as a medium or a base to start creating their own counteractive measures... It's also possible this was an ability they all possessed from birth or were able to practice and grow in general before the void century. If we think that the DFs are from outside, then Haki could have been created in the OP World. If we look at the "King of Prudence" Kingdom, with the 1 hit punch, we can see that ability is probably something passed down throughout the generations of his family. It seems to be an ability that uses Haki and the "World" itself to manifest an incredible punch. Prudence Kingdom is one of the WG Kingdoms, which means they are most likely an Oriignal Kingdom, like Alabasta, from the Void Century.

Ever since Brook, I've had some theories. For example, Brook's DF only "Awakened" when he died, or he only "Discovered it's power" when he died... I think the death, like in Luffy's case, was the "Awakening." Brook also gains power via Music, which is why his "Soul Power" grew so much in 2 years, while Brook has his powers for 40-50? Years and didn't even know what his powers were, let alone how to actviate them.
This shows me that his powers are special (I believe he has the ability to control things like the shadows, as well as interact with souls/the dead). It's possible Brook will be some sort of Necromancer, similar to Moria, and raise the dead. I'm waiting for him to possess something. Brooks powers were hidden for a reason, and Ibelieve he's also a Human Human fruit.
The same with CHopper, Chopper's Monster point awakenede when Chopper was near death from his 3 boost piills.

@@Enzo-wx3vw Thank you. I don't really have much in the way of OP Theories anymore, just a few with regards to Brooke's DF and such... Especially since I honestly haven't really been following OP since The Timeskip. I wanted to take a break and let chapters build up and I just really haven't come back. I read a bit here and there, and jump all over, but I've been pretty bad with actually following the story.
I probably should give OP another run through the manga (I don't think I've read the manga 100%, just watching teh anime for the most part).
A lot of my thoughts went to Brook's DF, because there was a lot that didn't make sense with it. I also wondered about Chopper's DF. If I was involved with reading OP now I might have thought about Luffy's powers might not be as they are, and him having a whole new ability, but I will say Oda is incredible for doing this to us, and making us believe in a lie for 20 years. The only reason i posted on a few of these videos is because I was being recommended Joyboy Theories and a bunch of other theory/OP channels that were talking about what's going on in the last few chapters and how OP is changed, which made me excited for what's to come and how Brooke/Chopper will change.
It does make me a bit sad that OP, the Manga/Anime I claimed as my favorite, hasn't been given much love. I think it might also have to do with the fact I don't have a steady source for the manga, as I usually just read manga on YT, and avoid any of the sites that could have malicous ads. I also am a bit more into Chinese Light Novels tehse days.

I think it might have been eaten but never did much for its other users as it was dormant and only ever awakened for luffy.
Those hating on OP because Luffy became the "Chosen One". He earned it and wasn't born with it. Like the video says anyone could've been it. And Luffy doesn't have plot armor. He lost so many times that he used to be the most underpowered captain in the world. He also got stronger because of his talent and training. We already know from the start that he's going to become the Pirate King meaning, he is already the chosen one. I still have 100% faith in Oda that he will deliver all of the foreshadowing he have planted throughout the years and will not be like Game of Thrones season 8 where they ruined the series because the show runners thought they were smart to subvert expectations by ruining all of the foreshadowing. In OP's case, Luffy being the chosen on makes you go "Yeah, that makes sense".
Since the Gum Gum Fruit is the representation of freedom, it's polar opposite would have to represent control, and probably be in Im-sama's possession. If that were to be the case, then what would Im's Devil Fruit be? Maybe it's a Zoan fruit that houses Im's spirit, and allows him/her to completely possess anyone who eats it, bringing up an alternative theory to Im undergoing the immortality surgery.

If you think of the idea of devil's, and also think of the idea of the fruits having their own will, then maybe they can avoid the world government by enticing certain people to eat it. They also might have a power to make people not want to eat it, so then it made shanks take it, but also made shanks and his crew not want to eat it, then when it saw Luffy, it probably enticed him with saying "you're hungry eat me". I don't think it takes away from the hard work aspect of the show, because Luffy had no idea of his power, and still mindlessly did whatever he wanted to, putting himself up against the strongest without any knowledge of his power, or the power of his enemies. He might be chosen, but he spent far too long in ignorance it's a surprise he is alive.

The fruit has a limit, that limit being the joy boys imagination. So what if a past joy boy user found a fruit, a fruit and power never seen before, ate it, gained the abilities to create and do ANYTHING he wanted. now as i said, "d"... Devil. The original fruit (sun god nika) would have created all of the other fruits to share its amazing power and libiration, and was later named after the person/bloodline of the original user. The D. I have a theory saying that the devil fruits according to a person, for example we know that king uses fire because he is lunarian, but when he dies the next one turns into a pterodactyl who uses fire when awakened. It is a known fact there were many rare creature in ancient time and this might be the reason why they were chosen to be eradicated. If devil fruit when eaten infuses with heart the devil fruit might go through dna kind of changes. Gomu gomu was the original type of fruit but Nika had his own powers and then the gum gum changed to sun god Nika style. When joyboy ate it the giant traits got included with it.
