Excellent instrument. Gamble hit the nail on the head. This instrument can do it all, but it still comes down to 1) can you play, 2) can you write music and 3) will you spend the time to fully learn the full instrument. I've heard people with the Korg Kronos not sound too good because they were not good piano players. Yet I've heard someone use an old portable cheap keyboard and make it sound great.
This is actually an arranger keyboard and it's perfect if your someone who plays the melody with one hand the the auto accompaniment with the other. But in actual fact keyboards like Yamaha Montage, MODX, Roland Fantom, Korg Kross are workstation/synths which are better geared towards music production/midi sequencing if that's your thing. Hope this helps.
Finally got my hands on one to play and considering the price tag and my demo time with both the Korg Pa4X and Roland FA series, I was underwhelmed. The sounds are good, but honestly they're good on all of them. Yamaha added quite a big jump in the number of Mega Voices, Super Articulation voices, and Super Articulation 2 voices -- a bigger increase than we've seen with previous Tyros-to-Tyros upgrades, yet does it sound significantly better than the others, the answer is subjective to each person, but polling 17 different keyboard players during a blind test, none of them were able to correctly identify the Yamaha sounds as better when played over 4 different songs . The first things to jump out at me were the lack of intuitiveness and layout. It seemed counter-intuitive to find and do things in a live setting. The features seemed more geared to a studio than a live setting. Secondly, they market this as a workstation, yet it s has no daw integration at all, no real onboard sound editing features, only a few basic parameters, no audio over USB - The Tyros 5, Yamaha's top-of-the-line arranger keyboard did not have a built-in USB audio interface. The Genos doesn't either, baffling to me, and there is no pattern sequencer, also if you are looking at the sequencer on this, you'll find some disappointment in its limitations. To be honest, if I was gonna get something, price would come into play (as it always does). I would probably go with a PA4X. Why? It seems better built, is more compact (you could comfortably use it as a top tier in a two-board setup for function work), is sonically at least the equal of the Genos and it is just far more tweakable which is abundantly obvious if you compare them head on, and the price is $1500 less. If I truly wanted and had to have a workstation, the Roland FA series for the price is great value or simply get the Kronos if you want to spend more which is an amazing machine. I really hoped Yamaha had a good thing here with the huge let down of the Tyros 5 and the one sided aspect of the Montage. It turns out to me the Genos is just another arranger all too similar to the Tyros 5 for tastes.
Truly, I suggested Roland Corporation innovate/initiate a 76-Key Arranger Workstation before they produce FA-06/07/08. Any way Yamaha outpassed them. Good Instrument, I like this Genos even I am an ardent ROLAND fan. ( I have Roland GW-8 and FA 06 right now).
This is a great looking keyboard workstation, but I am so grateful music sound industry has change in the favor of implementation of computer producing. What I mean, "overprice is a understatement". It should be "outrageous price!" for this unit but I am not surprised by the price, it Yamaha. For my many years of being music producer, Yamaha, Tascam, and Roland have been doing this same price scheme for over the years. Not only that, selling units with no upfront pc connect but you have to buy an additional slot unit to transfer your music. Then after buying the unit for thousands of $$, the company offers an sound update for $$$$ after you spent $$$$ for the unit. And to top that off, when the unit become discontinued, (and it will be soon) they do not provide any software updates after you have spent $$$$. I know this is a business but I am so thankful for the change of music industry game. Companies like Yamaha choked the inspired but broke producers and also their sound library is customized to a particular type of genres style. I dare wouldn't buy this keyboard neither do I want it for free. It will hurt my workflow. This keyboard is designed for live performance not pre-production.
It's interesting that they use Korg's joystick on this keyboard, leaving behind their two wheels PB and modulator. But I would add one more modulation free run wheel to this joystick, and that would be top notch set up.

This keyboard would be good for Euro electronic music. Of course I am sure it can do other things, but most of the demos show these types of sounds/accompaniments. The piano and nine faders are nice.
Can't believe my homeboys wife spent $6,000 for this. But it does sound nice. Ain't gonna lie. That guitar sequence got me wanting to go over his house right now. I'm stunned!
I now have this keyboard and it really is epic! I need this guy to come and visit me and walk me through how he does all this stuff - Post Covid! Ha ha - What a dude! Only wish I could play it like this guy. I have the three manuals that can be bought for Genos but it would be great if Guitar Guitar could do some online tutorials to show these demos in more detail.
The Tyros keyboards always had the best sound quality by far of any keyboard I've ever heard. Kronos, Jupiter 80, montage, rd2000, none of those even come close. But for 6000 bucks, you can only get these with a synth action keybed?
Actually it depends on what you want. The PSR series spans everything from rank beginners keyboards to really sophisticated, and marvelous semi professional PSR S instruments. Yes, some of them get to be a bit expensive. The Genos is the flag ship keyboard of Yamaha's arranger keyboards and really is not an inexpensive tool by any means. Actually, in October, Yamaha will be releasing the next generation of the PSR S line, and I can tell you this, I'm planning on buying the PSR SX900. I'd call it a Genos junior-it's that amazing.
227/5000 Thank you, dear Martin. Good presentation. I have not yet known some menus. Have read the manual even very little, although I have the Workstaion equal to 2 years. Greetings from Görlywood in Germany :)
Please buy it for me.. I'm good in playing..i will be playing and recording for you.. I base in FCT Abuja in Nigeria.. I'm a sound and studio engineer.. But just wish you buy and ship to my location and keep receiving your tracks and records as you wish.. I'm serious! Ask me for further details I will provide to you.. I love this keyboard but I can't afford it at this time.. Thanks.
Congrats Ryan! Take some lessons and enjoy your beautiful keyboard to the fullest. As a former teacher and keys sales rep for a leading retailer... here is another reccomendation: Find out who your local 'Genos Guru' is ... and hire them to walk you through everything your keyboard has to offer. It might take a few sessions but it's sooo much more productive than piddling through. Congrats again and cheers!
Yamaha PSR SX900 does almost all that fro a third of the price. If someone needs all those features, to me that means that have not practiced enough scales and arpeggios and use sound color to cover up their lack of technique.
We already know YAmaha has great sounds. How do you actually write, compose or make a beat on this $5000 + machine? I would like to see how you sequence and edit, mix and master your music on this bad boy.
you cant buy talent, which is basically what you are asking lol, listen i along with 35 others have been involved with these machines for years as programmers (myself personally since 2007 on tyros 2) i have been made redundant now after tyros 6 as public name, code name genius hence when so different they decided should start a new chapter after tyros hence genos) so beond any comment here you are getting it from the horses mouth guys, korg are trying to bring out a new PAX machine to compete but they are nowhere close yet (even been offered a job many times by them lol), but at the end of the day this is the most versatile machine ever and only limitation is your tallent , so i personally find this question stupid, :) youl learn how to use the sequencng as you use it, more of a questio is are you atalented player.composer, mixer? or are you hoping a machine can make you seem like you have tallent? :) anyone on here who questions the machine i guarntee has never worked in keyboard/synth development, id bet my house on it, go try it yourself first before you comment or you sound an untallented stup or poor idiot, end of!!!
gimble - I’m glad you have talent & is an intelligent programmer. Not Everyone is fortunate enough like you unfortunately. I would caution you though to use your big brain and refrain from calling someone with a question about a product stupid, because it just makes you look like the one with the word stupid/88 written all over your forehead. I would bet my life Yamaha would not hire people like you who can actually call a customer stupid for asking a question about a product & if they did I’ll bet your ass would no longer work there. We’re not about to start arguing with you since you’re so smart, so be gone!!!
DJ ICE I agree. This should be a fairly simple question to understand. Before purchasing my Roland G, I needed to see two things, physical steps of sound build up and using sequencer for song production.
If Yamaha genos had more sample pads like Roland FA series, an intuitive looper, sequencer, better sound engine and more support for manual bass part for external connectivity to organ pedal board and appeal back to the organists or yester year. Then they might on to something. On a positive the drums on Yamaha are very good indeed.
... when the Korg Kronos gets attention through reviews and comparisons with various synthesizers and workstations such as montage, motif and genos to name a few comparisons with Yamaha, all the genos gets is reviews and self praise. The three review videos that I checked out ( including this one) is by the same reviewer, all three being done by the Yamaha's senior manager , whereas Kronos had a way larger audience
Terrific musicianship, thank you for this great video on a great keyboard. Your 'comping' during the swing (8:45), one chord per beat, is amazing! May I ask a question about the "chord loop" function? 20 years ago I used this function constantly on my Roland E-86 (made in 1994), to play or create the underlying chord progressions (often spontaneously), and then use two hands to play solos (LH on the modulation wheel or pitch bend, RH play saxophone or whatever); or, in a live setting, while leading worship I could establish a chord progression, and then physically depart from behind the keyboard, walk out to the front of the stage, and sing and lead the people in worship WHILE the E-86 kept playing the progression - and then after a while, go back behind the keyboard and seamlessly pick up in midstream (to play reharms or go into the chorus or B-section, etc). It was wonderful! Fast-forward 25 years, and now I use a Tyros 5, and it's a great keyboard, BUT sadly it doesn't allow for either of these powerful and useful functions. My Left Hand is forever trapped having to play the chord progressions, with only spits and spurts darting over the left to adjust the mod or pitchbend wheels, and always having to zip back to play the new chord on the down-beat (which is often the very moment when mod or pitchbending is most needed in an effective solo). And another thing: with the Tyros, my body is physically trapped behind the keyboard. I can't depart from behind the Tyros to get more physically present to lead or exhort the people. Alas, how I miss the arranger loop function! (I'm much less effective as a live performer without it.) So I'm very excited to see that the Genos 2 has the arranger loop!! Way to go Yamaha! So now.... I wonder: since this appears to be primarily a software update (and not a hardware feature that requires a separate set of buttons, like on the E86) ... could this feature possibly be programmed into an updated firmware or software version for the Tyros 5? Does anyone have any idea? I don't really want to leave my Tyros 5 yet, it's still an awesome keyboard; plus, the learning curve to learn the Genos is as much a deterrent as is the price to upgrade from the Tyros. So hopefully Yamaha will see fit to program this arranger loop function into the Tyros software or firmware, and not force us who REALLY need this feature, to buy a Genos2. Would love to hear from you or anyone who knows, about this. Thanks. Keep up with the awesome music!
I really want to like the Genos but that C7 piano sounds way to thin and smothered in effects .I can not here any natural acoustic sound of a real piano.Way to digital.
Put "flagship" in the name of your product, ask unbelievable price 2 times as much as the same keyboard without few gimmicks, and everyone will get crazy to buy it. With all that said, Genos is really great arranger, just not without some flaws and compromises even with this price.
If you want more natural sounds, better and easier menu on composing, more inspiration to play just buy the pa4x. It calls you to play even if you don't want to play.
yamaha MUST sell loads of these $3k+ arrangers but I've never in my 20+ years of full-time professional keyboard playing have ever met a single person who actually owns one. weird. I've seen them in use in non-english speaking restaurants and on cruise ships. I sometimes suspect it's a secret weapon of commercial library music producers- and I mean literally kept secret. Just some thoughts
Your joking, right?🤣you almost got me! Edit: ok thanks ...I did some research on the board your talking about...it’s cool....but no...not on the level of this instrument...anyone who thinks so should definitely not even consider getting the genos.✌🏾
Err, okay. It always puzzles and irritates me why a demonstration of a new keyboard treats many features that have been there in past models like "oh my god this is great"! Like here e.g. the ability to control the sound in realtime with the knobs or sliders... COME ON! Why can you not say something like "of course as before you can do this...". And really leave the OMG factor to actually new features. This is one of many marketing blurbs that I personally would like to see buried and gone.
At what price though? I just saw the price for this out of curiosity. I'm floored by the quality! My friend has one and I turned my nose up at him. I've got egg on my face now.
For each instrument that we select we always need to configure the sliders in the left top panel manually? these sliders move automatic using the touch screen to control it?
Dear LORD!!!! This machine is a work of ART!!!!. BTW 10 thumbs up for the musician who is demontrating this amazing instrument.
Geo Fergal yes indeed. He is amazing
Excellent instrument. Gamble hit the nail on the head. Man O Man... this Machine can prodruce teardrops by playing the right stuff...very very good demo, Sir !!! Thank You! Cheers, and all the best! Frank
I didn't realize that workstation / arranger keyboards had gotten so incredibly good. Now I want one!
😅😅😅😅😅😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😅😊😊😅😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😅😊

@JIM JONES are you saying that you are gay?
Then you must get one!
I wasn't planning on buying a new keyboard anytime soon. But after watching this, hmm. Damn you Yamaha 😄😝
4:55 guitar style demo sounds really authentic. Yamaha rocks on arpeggiators.
Great demo Guy really knows what most keyboard player wants❤👍👏👏👏
one man band machines. see them at weddings all the time. 2500k per gig they pay for them selves fast.
This demo by Martin Harris is the best one by far. I take my hat off to you!
This guys has got talent...
What I see ... A genuine artist! Awsome job!!!
the perfect thing to own for the modern weather channel music composer...
If you have no imagination and don't consider all it's potential, yes, it is.
This keyboard would be good for Euro electronic music. Of course I am sure it can do other things, but most of the demos show these types of sounds/accompaniments. The piano and nine faders are nice.
Incredible performance

8:42 Damn man you know how to swing !! :) I'm transcribing that solo right now !
I now have this keyboard and it really is epic!
I need this guy to come and visit me and walk me through how he does all this stuff - Post Covid! Ha ha - What a dude! Only wish I could play it like this guy. Sounds great, one of the best keyboards..
Really nice demo, fantastic sounds and wonderful playing👍

I really love this Keyboard
Amazing keyboard,i really enjoy when play with my Genos.
sounds like beast. its epic
I love this keyboard.. Love YAMAHA
ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE......
Damn, PSR line got expensive
Actually it depends on what you want. The PSR series spans everything from rank beginners keyboards to really sophisticated, and marvelous semi professional PSR S instruments. Yes, some of them get to be a bit expensive. The Genos is the flag ship keyboard of Yamaha's arranger keyboards and really is not an inexpensive tool by any means. Actually, in October, Yamaha will be releasing the next generation of the PSR S line, and I can tell you this, I'm planning on buying the PSR SX900. I'd call it a Genos junior-it's that amazing.
Awesome keyboard that can function many ways.
Wow you are a piano master !!! The keyboard is amazing... but you are awesome !!! Regards from Ecuador !
Excellent way to describe geno I love it
Thank you so much. Great and clear demonstrations.
I didn't know you could change the colors of the LEDs and the color scheme of the display!
227/5000
Thank you, dear Martin. Good presentation. I have not yet known some menus. Have read the manual even very little, although I have the Workstaion equal to 2 years.
Greetings from Görlywood in Germany :)
Very good demo. I'm intrigued.
cor you got me at 3.45 in. really nice that
it must be amazing when you know how to play piano like this man i would make all kinds of music
Big fan of Martin Harris, back in the day of the Yamaha electone festivals
Sad thing is I'm going to buy this and end up playing chopsticks on it because I definitely can't play it like this dude
As a former teacher and keys sales rep for a leading retailer... here is another reccomendation:
Find out who your local 'Genos Guru' is ... and hire them to walk you through everything your keyboard has to offer. It might take a few sessions but it's sooo much more productive than piddling through.

Don’t give up and enjoy
😂😂😂you’re not alone Sir
Yamaha PSR SX900 does almost all that fro a third of the price. If someone needs all those features, to me that means that have not practiced enough scales and arpeggios and use sound color to cover up their lack of technique.
Amazing piano, amazing video
ive been waiting for years for this model
Wow wow very very good YAMAHA GENOS
Amazing keyboard and amazing keyboard player
The voice engine was also used in the CVP-800 series and the PSR-SX series.
only the SX900 AFAIK
Christopher Fernandes Oh well... Thanks!

Like wise its about serious time they showed those features.

The overlay feature is nice, not sure you can do that on the others
Very nice demo covering a lot of ground with good playing...impressive keyboard.
Great demonstrator!
Nice after touch effects
Nice demo!!!!
Finally a yamaha with a pitch bend and not that ugly wheel anymore
Tech Only woooooooWEEEEOEOOOOOWOOEOPPWOOOWERRERERRRRREEEEEEEEE...wooooooww..
Lmao...pretty much that
He would make a good narrator for audio books and adverts.

It s an gipsy style new psr 🤣
if u want real pro keyboard the play Rolan RD-88 or Roland FA-08
"Arrangers" make their money by making other people's songs sound like songs people have *heard before*. It's the opposite of innovative creativity.
try the ethnic wedding scene. they are every where as one man bands lol
General Music built this keyboard years ago with the SK-88 General. it was far beyond its day and much less in price
Your joking, right?🤣you almost got me! Edit: ok thanks ...I did some research on the board your talking about...it’s cool....but no...not on the level of this instrument...anyone who thinks so should definitely not even consider getting the genos.✌🏾
É uma banda de alto nível completa
Very nice! Thanks
we need an 88 key version with realistic graded hammer action for less than $2,000
Adeboye Grillo - dream on my friend - LOL
This machine alone is 6 grand
Mixing the styles and time signatures.
Brutal Ballad Style :)
I may buy this after 6 years...and used one
You shoud be aware that they(Yamaha Corp) improve sound quality with high tech equipment before publishing this on YT
this or yamaha S-970?i cannot decide..(for me Roland still is my first choice)
Does it have loaded key action? You didn't say. Amazing instrument.
Oh man! Those chord changes at 8:45
Obviamente el teclado no reconoce esos cambios para el acompañamiento automatico.Lo hace para agregar armonia Lw voice.
@1:48 sounds like a new game console start up
It would be nice if Yamaha made a portable module version of the Genos for musicians who travel a lot.
At what price though? I just saw the price for this out of curiosity. I'm floored by the quality! My friend has one and I turned my nose up at him. I've got egg on my face now.
An Arranger and a Workstation .
God my help me get this keyboard
Hi mr. Harris, can you tell me the name of that 60's song you playng on the minute 8? Thanks
Tyros 4,Tyros 5 and Genos Top Keyboard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Genos is not available in brazil yet, but the price would be around to 28k!!!! Something near 28 times the minimum wage. Its crazy man.. impossible
Hot Dang that's a nice board Boss'
I still have motif XS and I don't know if or with what to upgrade
I wouldn't bother upgrading, the XS is already a supremely capable instrument.
Stick with the Motif XS, I wish I had one!
For each instrument that we select we always need to configure the sliders in the left top panel manually? these sliders move automatic using the touch screen to control it?
Bellissima ! ❤
Hey , what do you think of the yamaha Genos? I am thinking about either getting the prophet x or the Genos.
Amazing korg
amazing
Great keyboard!!!!!!!!
Unless I missed it, can I record a full song on the instrument and download/transfer to mastering deck, CD ?
Decent for some things for sure BUT the string demo is wanting to say the least towards the end of this demo.
