My question is: I moved into an apartment that already had a wifi router installed and I got my internet up and running, and on the router it supports 4 Ethernet ports and the speed is only 1 GBPs and i was wondering if I could buy a faster modem with an Ethernet port and plug it into said wifi router?
Is ur purple CAT-5 cable same as ur yellow cable? I.e., interchangeable in use? I remember any CAT-5 cable comes behind a modem has straight wire connection, not crossed.
Thank you for the information Kevin! I'm trying to figure out my.folks wifi modem, router, ect... Older folks don't understand all the new things (for lack of words). I found your instructions clear, quick (I can always pause!), and informative for basic modem, router, and the big computer they have. I am having troubles with all the different cables. I've noticed a black flimsy telephone type cable used where the Ethernet cable should be. Unlike most, I can't find an extra laying around the place, but there are several sturdy gray cables I have access to now with the same attachments. I'm wondering if replacing the black flimsy phone cable with a sturdier one would help? Does the cable have to be yellow? I'm just not computer savvy! SecNola
I connected pc wirelessly and with cat5 cable to a modem .the compter with cat5 cable can pront from the network printer which is connected with with cae to the modem . But the wireless pc cant connect to printer.any ideas
I connected my router to my modem/router with the router wan port and the modem/router lan port and it works so that I could use my modem/router 10gb wan port for my PC ethernet cable. I also turned off the wifi of my modem/router so that only my new router would work. My question is : should my router be connected to my modem/router via wan to wan port or is it okey to have my router using wan port and connect to the lan port of my modem router .😅
You just saved me 100$ from having a technician come over and do all of these basic things I can be doing for free! Thank you so much!
thanks for this. it really helped
Appreciate your tutorial!
The network name was a good tip
Awesome!! I was able to do it.

I’m pretty sure you can but you might wanna check if it could support it.
