Just to reply, had the same problem on my dci which I sucessfully after a while solved, it was the fuel pressure regulator located on high pressure pump!
I didn't manage to fix it, simply flogged it off to a dealer as a trade in and got a hyundai i30. I tried a few suggestions but no lasting cure was found. Pity because I really loved the car but the chugging was getting worse and mechanic was struggling to find solution.
