I haven’t visited in decades. My mom loves them. She was humming a cowboy junkies tune, so I came here. A blessed solstice, a merry Christmas and a happy New Years to all.
Great treatment of the song. Hard now to believe she sang her first stage appearances with the band with her back to the audience, she was so shy. Look at her now. Just gorgeous, using a beautiful languid delivery with a voice to die for. Well done, girl! Makes me proud to be Canadian, that does!
Cowboy Junkies are one of the best bands in this kind of music. I discovered them there by 1989 with ' sweet jane ' , Margo Timmins is definitly a great singer and song writer...
Just heard this version for the first time & was completely knocked-out!Slow & under-played, but so overwhelming ........ I just want to hear it again!,
Blue Moon is one of the most beautiful songs ever - and one of the easiest to play on the guitar. This woman sings it better than I've ever heard it sung. It's not hard to sing, but it's hard to sing it better. Bravo!
Saw her and them playing in Glasgaw a few years back ,I can still hardly think about just how much they made my skin dance ,was so happy to be there.I know your meant to be stupidly happy for your favorite singer / band , but there is no comparison for them
Euan Evans Exactly! I've never been what you'd call "stupidly happy" for anybody, but I might have to make an exception here. Amazing people producing amazing sounds. So easy to become a fan - actually impossible to resist becoming a fan. Where have I been?
It's simple, but the essence of good music is not the degree of difficulty but rather the impact it has on the listener. These guys pay attention to tone, and good tone is not as simple as they make it look. You can tell they love every note.
I used to listen to this song on a radio when I was a kid. Just recently, I have found that song again and I found whole world of beautiful songs by CJ. Thank you for spreading such a heart touching music.
A truly classic performance that deserves much greater recognition than it has received to date. Elvis's interpretation was brilliant! The interpretation by the Cowboy Junkies was even better!!
I discovered Cowboy Junkies many years ago when they covered NY's Powderfinger. I just found this gem this morning on youTube. It's one of my favorite songs. What a great versions! Wow ....
This performance is from 12 May 1990 in Manchester, England. Saw the Junkies play in a mid-size theater in the summer of 1992. Wonderful performance and sound. The highlight for me was their cover of folksong writer David Wiffen’s “Driving Wheel.” (They released a studio version later that year as a B-side and on a multi-artist compilation album.)
Discovered this a few weeks ago on tv on covers of elvis songs he recorded. Blew me away. Can't stop playing it. Checking out cowboy junkies as well-amazing.
I met her after a Cowboy Junkies concert in Edinburgh in 2004. She is an incredibly charming and sweet lady that is actively interested in talking to you - nothing related to the fan-star thing at all. Plus, she actually does have that angelic, soothing voice in her everyday speech as well. And that deep & very special resonance gives you a strong impression that it's not just her trademark (and of the band's as well), but also defines her as a person.
The first time I heard Cowboy Junkies sing this rendition was in the '93 movie Untamed Heart Have loved it ever since. such a beautiful voice & awesome instrumentations.
This is an amazing version. I usually listen to this song when I’m blue, or about to go to sleep. This and Elvis 1956 version usually goes back to back.
Ahh from the trinity session album ,it was my first cd from this awesome group,of course seeing them live ,on cant help bee blown away by MS Margos sultry voice live.
I saw then then play in Buffalo in 90, it was like magic! Many people don't realize that their breakout album The Trinity Sessions was live around One Microphone! That is one great band!
What IS hard is to pull off a simple song and make it seem like it is a first run hit. And make it your own. She certainly does that,. I shall always remember this version, not any other.
To see her and the Junkies live is one of my great experiences...the Clifton Center, Louisville KY, she is stunning even in her middle years, and so sincerely sweet, all the baby boomer guys go "wow!" and all the boomer ladies go, "awwwww"
Ouch is how they make me feel. I agree with Sallie P that this is the best sung version of this ubiquitous song. Great to get re-aquainted with Cowboy J's.
A chance hearing of "Misguided Angel" is what led to my wishing to learn more of just who were the "Cowboy Junkies" (and to purchase a copy of "The Trinity Session"). The startlingly different but absolutely beautiful way they manage to cover THIS song however, is what instantly converted me into a 100%, dyed-in-the-wool Cowboy Junkie junkie.
It is ironic because on Saturday night I was listening to "Lou Reed's" "Rock N Roll Animal" and some of the "Velvet Underground" music. I wake up on Sunday and found out later that day Lou passed. I was so sad and I couldn't get a damn thing done today watching it splashed over the news made me feel even worse.
I ran this morning in the light of the blue moon. Which brings me to this: If I get to choose what I hear when I'm dying, let it be the heavenly voice of Margo Timmons, singing this song.
It is hard to imagine anyone so smoking hot and sultry as Margo Timmins. When I was in grad school on the east coast, I'd play their albums as I drove across the country to the west coast. I worked Hurrican Hugo repair in 1989 and would put the album on every day, on the way to work at 5am "Mining for Gold" was the first song... I felt like a miner trading health for work. Got to see them play in Boston a few years back... a little shorter hair, but still pretty, also funny, and voice and the music was just as good. But man... if she had smiled at me in the late 1980s or early 1990s, I'd have thrown myself under a bus if she asked me to... just to please her. What a woman!!! Oh... and the rest of the band is good, too.
The original is a Rogers and Hart composition , Elvis covered it as it 200 + artists. It's and old standard classic, so who made it famous depends on your age- hahaha
Elvis version came out on his debut lp for RCA in '56. The whole record is soooo cool with Elvis letting the world know..."I have arrived." On this song he sounds like he's in an echo chamber, his beautiful baritone leaving the listener breathless. Great stuff!
Margo's mesmerizing voice...steel guitar, harmonica and an accordion that all together can soothe your soul....doesn't get any better than this.
I haven’t visited in decades. My mom loves them. She was humming a cowboy junkies tune, so I came here. A blessed solstice, a merry Christmas and a happy New Years to all.
Such a pretty version of Blue Moon, I love it ! She has such a haunting beautiful voice ! She just melts me.........
whenever i think of blue moon, i think of cowboy junkies.
best version i ever listened
The most complete track of this song ever recorded, bags of character and superb vocals. 100% perfect.
These guys are so under-rated and to take a classic song and make if even better is testament to their class. Love them.
Great treatment of the song. Hard now to believe she sang her first stage appearances with the band with her back to the audience, she was so shy. Look at her now. Just gorgeous, using a beautiful languid delivery with a voice to die for. Well done, girl! Makes me proud to be Canadian, that does!

hypnotisingly beautiful!!! and she looks stunning
I remember this quite well. It's wonderful that the quality & the heart that went into this makes it immortal.
Just heard this version for the first time & was completely knocked-out!Slow & under-played, but so overwhelming ........ I just want to hear it again!,

Margo Timmins
Just want to jump into those eyebrows and take a nap.
The voice of an angel! Such a strong voice, unusual tone LOVE THIS
So good it hurts! A brilliant interpretation of a classic song.
I used to listen to this song on a radio when I was a kid.
Just recently, I have found that song again and I found whole world of beautiful songs by CJ.
Thank you for spreading such a heart touching music.
she has the voice... she makes life better, just hearing her...

Anything she sings is absolutely beautiful! She has a voice of anl angel.
If you heard her voice on the radio you still wouldn't be prepared for how beautiful she is.
I saw The Cowboy Junkies perform at the Toronto EX in 1999 the were amazing actually made me cry.
This performance is from 12 May 1990 in Manchester, England.

This song sung by this woman, gives me goosebumps like no other.

I never bought much music back in the 80's and 90's but I did buy a Cowboy Junkies cassette as well as a Jewel cassette.

I ran this morning in the light of the blue moon. Which brings me to this: If I get to choose what I hear when I'm dying, let it be the heavenly voice of Margo Timmons, singing this song.
Just how angelic is Margo Timmins!¿
She makes "the queen of the angels sigh."
This is SO DAMN GOOD. I don't even like country but uh....
