Absolutely loved Stargate SG1, it just worked so well with each Episode being a different Story, though with a common thread and the Cast took it way beyond the original Movie, which was cool, but each of the characters in SG1 made their own mark...They don't write this level of Shows anymore , however look at the depth of characters, Daniel Jackson was wise, knowledgeable, yet also emotionally flawed in many ways and Sam Carter was such a strong character, very clever, problem solver, tough as hell, with a touch of empathy...and beauty. I always felt Jack used his humour to be likable, to be part of the team, but always knew when to kick it up a notch and lead, get in the Fight and Teal'c was a born Warrior, yet humble, respective. It was a lesson in Human Traits and Morals, without being Preachy...I wish current Writers/Studios could learn this balance. Anyway, loved the Show...Absolute Professionals, all the way.
There were the major arcs - like with the hunt for the system lords, the Ori, the Replicants, the Asgardians - that tied the episodes together. Also, it was nice that they found some money between the cushions to make two TV movies to close off the arcs that were left hanging (the last system lord, and the Ori).
Couldn't agree more. Current scriptwriters could go and study SG1 episodes and learn how to properly execute the craft they don't understand very well.
I'm a ways into season 5 on a re-watch right now, my 2nd watch (man it's been years), and I was thinking to myself just how much the show is actually teaching: Morals, Science, Loss, just everything is in there. But yeah, Morals as I read your comment and I'm just nodding my head in strong agreement.
SG1 is probably my favourite TV series of all time and Richard Dean Anderson was so instrumental in the shows success. So many wonderful memories. Thanks Richard
One of the episodes of SG1 has Carter humming the Stargate theme in an elevator. Apparently the script just said "Carter enters elevator and begins to hum". Amanda Tapping thought it would be hilarious to hum the McGuyver theme but, as she went to hum it, realized she couldn't remember it. So she hummed the one theme song she could remember. But it would have been a great joke had she remembered the tune.
My Richard Dean Anderson story is from about 30 years ago when I worked as a building inspector for the city of Riverside California. I stopped at a Subway restaurant for lunch and as I got out of my car I noticed three children playing in a van in the parking lot. As I walked past the van to the restaurant the children froze and stared at me as I walked by. I entered the Subway restaurant and walked directly to the bathroom to wash my hands and when I came out, there were the children with their parents standing behind them waiting for me. They were convinced that I was Richard Dean Anderson, from the MacGyver show and wanted my autograph. I explained that I was not him, but they insisted on the autograph, apparently not believing me, so I gave them a MacGyver autograph on a napkin and they left the restaurant happy. 30+ years later I still have a slight resemblance to Mr Anderson, except that my hair has not turned gray yet, due to the genes that I inherited from my father.
@@zzBaBzz I haven’t heard that before, but I’ll definitely check it out. My beard has a lot of gray in it when I don’t shave for several days, but the hair on my head is still 98% dark at age 67.
@@johan.ohgren The original Fallout game, circa 1997. Interesting to note that his character more resembles Col. O'Neal and not MacGuyver, although he did this in between the two.
All these years later, I’m still astounded how Stargate Cast, Crew and Fans have all become a family! My social media still includes cast, fans and extras!
There will never be a show better than Stargate. It’s an original story and today there are no more original stories. It was brilliant! Richard Dean Anderson was and still is brilliant. ❤
It is also not original 😅 It's stolen from a movie and expanded upon, but taken from military stories and conspiracy drops that have been leaked many years long before the movie and show ever aired. So never mind girl.
@@craiggibbons8228 did you forget to take your meds? Everyone knew it was a spin off from the original movie and this thread is talking about SG-1, not other shows that came out later. So typical.
@@craiggibbons8228 Can't agree with any of those. Breaking Bad is a phenomenal show, but I don't miss a single character from that show. Emotionally draining and everyone was a garbage person. Closest for me would be Halt and Catch Fire. A phenomenal show that no one watched. Also emotionally draining though.. And I don't really miss the characters even though the actors did an incredible job on that show. An _incredible_ job.
One of the best examples of taking a decent movie with an interesting plot and just expanding it 10x over into just an amazing show... and shows with all the spin offs.
I know they are all old, but they can still pull off an SG1 mini-series. O’Neil can be a retired general who gets dragged out of retirement. Carter can be a professor, Jackson can be doing something. And maybe Tealc disappeared, and that’s the catalyst. Of course, the Stargate program is huge and semi-public especially with Atlantis sitting in the middle of the Pacific ocean.
I absolutely loved Macgyver as a kid! The character was my hero! I would watch the show religiously and learned so much about science and resourcefulness (traits I still carry with me today as a 46 yr old). May God bless Mr. Anderson. 🙏
same, i'm the same age. one funny memory i have while watching macgyver was during a scene where someone says, "hurry up before some jackass comes down the street". then they panned to 3 cars heading down the street and my youngest sister, who was probably around 4 at the time blurted out, "three jackasses!". we weren't allowed to say that word but our whole family laughed because it was so cute and she was correct. lol
There is only one MacGyver and, with no disrespect to Kurt Russell, there is only one O'Neal Two brilliant series I love to watch again whenever they are shown. BTW, I don't know when this video was shot, but Hard Dean Anders looks amazing.
It was impossible, but it would have been great if an episode featured the show's cast encountering the movie cast as an alternate version. That would explain some differences in the movie.
I grew up with Star Trek, I loved it with a passion and stiill do, I never thought II would like another Sci-Fi series as much, then Stargate came along and I fell in love with this series just as much. Thank you fo such an amaing time watching and re-watching this fantastic series 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Sometimes (rarely) in entertainment comes out a perfect storm of characters, chemistry between them, irony, good stories........ I don't want to belittle the film that started it all, but SG1 was truly that storm. He took the good original premise of a story and brought it to a magnificent level. The spinoffs weren't bad at all but they owed everything to the original series.
Agree. Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis were _so much better_ than the movie. It's rare for a show to completely overshadow a massive blockbuster movie. I actually can't remember a single show that has done this outside of Stargate..
MacGuyver was the reason I became an engineer, much to the dismay of my parents when I was messing around in the garage or blowing up the back yard. My dad was late to work one day because for some reason his car battery was dead for some strange reason...
While I did enjoy the character of MacGyver I was kept from totally enjoying the show due to the fact that my knowledge of physics and how things work in general allowed me to instantly realize that 99-percent of what he did would not actually work at all in real life. Every once in a while he would do something that was at least somewhat plausable - or at least close to it - but most of the time everything he did was completely impossible. But I suppose that even if they had had writers who understood science more it would still be impossible to come up with that many realistic MacGyverings in every episode.
@@SLOBeachboy I enjoyed MacGyver back then and have almost finished a run through of it right now, just 3 episodes and the movie to go. I could live with the science plausibility of it all, even though you are correct. It wasn't meant to be realistic and other shows do much worse. The other thing you had to roll with was availability of the items. He always got locked up (or whatever) with exactly what was needed for that situation, it was exactly the right size and in the right amount. Sometimes that stretched a little too far for me, especially in later seasons but imagine how that would play out if they tried to make it scientifically accurate as well. There'd need to be a lot of empty science and engineering labs knocking about. 😁
Ensemble casts that have chemistry often have longer runs. Look at Emergency, Stargate SG-1, Blue Bloods, Gunsmoke. All from different eras, but they had an ensemble cast, with a core star or stars that had a good time while they worked and it showed. Good writing was important, too. These things made them hits in their own time and in syndication.
In Brazil, Stargate was an incredible show, yet it pales in comparison to the cultural phenomenon that MacGyver became. Even today, it's quite Hard (Dean Anderson, Hahaha) not to associate Richard Dean Anderson with MacGyver. His face or the iconic Rush's Tom Sawyer intro instantly brings Mac back to our memories, since in Brazil, they used that intro to announce the episodes. Back then, they would trim lengthy show intros and replace them with songs they deemed more appealing.
i have asd and it was unheard of when i was a child. That being said, MacGyver inspired me to learn, seek understanding and triggered my creativity. it had and still has an enormous influence on who i am today. i’d love to meet Richard Dean Anderson to think him for being such a great positive impact on a childhood that wasn’t so great. also, i have all of the Stargate related movies and tv series.
I loved Macgyver. everybody in class saw it and talked about it the next day- I was young and when Stargate came out I, was an adult and it was like seeing an old friend. now I am getting old and he still feels like an old friend.
I remember watching the 1st episode of MacGyver when it debuted and became a fan instantly. I'm also female, and thought he was So HOT! lol. Later, when Stargate SG1 debuted, I watched it from the beginning. I was sad to see the hair had been cut...but I got use to that quickly and loved how Richard Dean Anderson took that character and made you forget that he use to play as MacGyver. O'Neil was a powerhouse of a character. MacGyver was more gentle, less imposing. Glad to see that Richard looks to be doing well, he looks great still too.
Grew up watching MacGyver when I was little in Australia, with my family. Came to Canada to live here and briefly got the chance to meet Richard Dean Anderson in person at a 2018 fan expo in Toronto. Great guy.
Hard Dean Anders, i love it. I still binge watch almost every day SG1 while i paint. It is good to have these friends in the same room with me. I'm strange that way. Thank to both of you and all involved for sweetness in my life. The level of love and respect that came off that screen, boy i tell ya. There were simple gestures that Rick did, like touching Christopher's face that said more than words. I remember feelings. That i do remember.
Loved him in both, stargate one of my favourite shows ever, he came to Ireland years and years ago for the halo release and I couldn’t get to Dublin to see him , I am still gutted to this day !!
Loved sg1, sooo many good times watching that. I loved the one where o'neil had a stone that let him change bodies with a regular dude, didnt tell anyone and used it as time off to go bowling!
When I am down hearted or going through life “stuff”, I go to SG1 for a marathon. The brilliance of the actors who bring these characters alive are my pseudo friends. It’s like I am part of SG1. Now, I am dealing with yet another cancer and guess what? I am visiting my SG1 friends again for a marathon. Richard Dean Anderson and his sarcasm and facial expressions make me laugh out loud. Carter, Daniel, T’ealc interaction? Priceless. They make me laugh, cry, and long for a home that is hard to put my hand on.

RDA was perfect for Stargate. In fact, without him I doubt it would have been successful. He understood how to present the show as a perfect blend of drama but never too serious, light hearted in many ways. Fun. that was what made the show so watchable and rewatchable. It was fun. It is fun. It continues to be fun.
Richard looks sooo healthy here, currently looking forward to playing stargate timelines here, but this little clip is an added bonus to get me in the mood, best thing is i still see elements of Jack character shining through in Richards personality. I think thats why i loved him in the series so much of his own personality shined through he was so natural and organic.
Agreed, he look better here than he did in the last decade! But I dont have much hope for timekeepers I believe you meant. It look just like any rts but with a stargate skin on it. As always, wait for reviews!
ive played the demo actually and i personally love this style of game, so ive already ordered it. Besides ive always been a firm believer in making my own mind up rather than watching through the eyes of others. Didn't watch to much mcgiver in the 80s. Around 1999 I did pickup up on star gate. I was impressed that you RDA kept the original film quality in the series, because that was part of its charm. The characters were far more relatable in stargate as well. the stories were very well writen and original. A friend and I are still watching from the start.
I remember seeing him on general hospital and seven brides for seven brothers' tv series. I loved mcgivers. When I saw him first in Stargate i was at first disappointed because i remembeed Kurt Russell's performance in the movie. But he grew on me until i couldn't see anyone else play that role
I'm finishing up watching the TNG era Star Treks again and the next on my list is a rewatch of the Stargate franchise. Can't wait to see "Hard Dean Anders" in action again!
I'm re-watcing them again and just now realizing how many SG1 episodes I missed! Pre-DVR TV for the win IMO, still finding new stuff (and I own all the seasons on DVD)!
I agree. I think a lot of that was because there was nearly always a combination of the four main characters in SG1 in each episode. With MacGyver, there was Dana Elcar and the recurring guests for a fair number of episodes but no regular group for the most part. So SG1 had more opportunity for them to play off each other.
Love both shows! On a number of occasions I have anused myself by MacGyvering solutions to things. I think one of my favorite episodes of SG1 is when someone made copies of the team and O'Neil gets in an argument and fight with his double. Not sure, but I think it may have been Dom DeLouise who made the doubles. He was on SG1 a few times. I think one of his real life sons was a love interest of Sam's for a while. Some years ago there was a submarine adventure show that eventually had 3 of Dom's sons on as regulars. Don't know how many kids Dom has in total. I watched that series sometime last year.
My dad died when he was 55 and I was 17 and then Stargate was on TV and I watched it just because of Richard because he somewhat looked like my father and he was about the same age as my dad. My dad would be just a couple years older today. You know there are some kind of people who strongly remind you some other people. I somewheat projected it like that.
I grew with stargate. RDA, if you're reading this, thank you for being a TREMENDOUS actor, charismatic to the bitter end. Thank you for all great memories.
I love how this just proves, Jack was a result of RDA's natural humor.. Sure you can tell on screen how easy it comes to him... but confirmation helps.

Way back when, I had subscribed to Showtime in order to get the new Outer Limits because I was and am such a fan of that 60s classic. During its entire run, I was only impressed by one episode. Most were ho-hum, some okay, but I’ve never watched them since. As that was winding down, Showtime kicked off Stargate SG-1 so I hung with the pay channel a little longer. While the movie had been visually impressive, it was more a pleasant curiosity than an engaging film. The series was consistently good, often great, and became must-see viewing. I also bought the DVDs later on and have enjoyed repeated viewings when time permits, but I do have to admit that after the defeat of Anubis, it dropped off a bit (and I loved Ben and Claudia… and Morena). The Ori just didn’t work for me. I stuck with Atlantis until the end but there’s something in the design of that one that puts me off. SGU really worked, loved it, but sadly didn’t last. If there’s more Stargate of any kind to come, I’m in.
I enjoy Richard Dean Anderson in everything he does... I loved MacGyver when it came out, but Stargate was excellent and fun to watch... in fact I watch it whenever I can on Comet as they air reruns of Stargate SG1 Did anyone else watch Legend series? I wish that had had more seasons. It was fun too.
Love RDA. I loved MacGyver, as a Science graduate. We all knew that though a ;lot of the science was accurate, the timing probably wasn't, but it was a fun show, and he was certainly eye candy. Thanks for the (relatively) non-violent MacGyver
Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis are my two favorite Sci Fi shows of all time. Loved it loved it LOVED IT! I'm rewatching SG-1 right now after having just finished Atlantis for the 5th time. Always makes me happy. I love those characters, everyone did such an amazing job with those two shows. Literally everyone brought their A game for those shows. I miss them so much, I could watch those shows for all eternity. Once Sci-Fi went dark, I lost most of my interest. The world is dark and miserable all the time, I don't need for sci-fi to be this hopeless dark hellish thing where everyone's lives are just garbage and drama 24/7. If there is a new Stargate show, please please please do not go dark.. The truly GREAT part of Stargate is the lovable cast. I loved Battlestar Galactica, but I do not miss a single one of those people. I miss everyone in SG-1 and SGA. Stargate truly was something special. No one did that cozy sci-fi stuff better. Not even close.
Hard Dean Anders is extra funny to me. My dad always joked as the opening titles came on "oooh! Targat!" because the aspect ratio didn't quite convert across the pond so 'S' and 'e' were often cut off for just that bit.
Mr. Anderson you've likely heard this a million times, but I'm 40 and grew up watching MacGyver as a kid. Your character made it cool be the smart kid and seeded my interest in science and problem solving.

I loved the first season of SG1 when they threw in the McGuyver jokes. Always made me laugh.
If you haven't seen it, this is an out take when Amanda did a McGuyver gag on RDA.

I first saw him in "Seven brides for seven brothers" the tv series. I wish it had continued longer as it was entertaining and enjoyable to watch.
How I miss SG1! All the cast was amazing, including the secondary characters.
i've missed RDA since Stargate. Its good to see him. Thank you for this.
Richard Dean Anderson has earned full name recognition ;)
Ah, you must be the doppelgänger Hard Dean Anders
hair turns white because of lack of copper.
@@zzBaBzz I haven’t heard that before, but I’ll definitely check it out. My beard has a lot of gray in it when I don’t shave for several days, but the hair on my head is still 98% dark at age 67.
@@zzBaBzzthat’s a part of it but not really. Most cases won’t be reversed or even prevented by increasing copper even the correct form.
[insert "Xena" joke from Simpsons]
-But Xena can't fly!
-I told you, I'm not Xena, I'm Lucy Lawless!
Richard brought so much joy to so many of us. Thank you!!!! And all those behind the scenes who made it possible ❤
I loved how he blushed about the name and font bit!😂😊😂
Oh my! He is looking so good. The silver fox reigns! Hope he is as happy as he has made all of us. Merry Christmas!
I grew up on MacGyver and watched SG1 as a teenager. Absolutely loved both shows, very fond memories of my childhood.
This man is a treasure. I've had Fallout for a long time and the main reason I want to finish it one day is because RDA had a role in it.
Holy crap, that's right! And a good role as well.
The first Fallout or one of the later?@@helbent4
@@johan.ohgren Anderson voiced "Killian Darkwater", the mayor of Junktown, in the first Fallout game. A "good" character and not insignificant.
@@johan.ohgren The original Fallout game, circa 1997. Interesting to note that his character more resembles Col. O'Neal and not MacGuyver, although he did this in between the two.
@@johan.ohgren First one, I love 3, NV and 4, but somehow I just can't stand isometric RPGs as I grew up loving Dungeon Master and the like.
Hard Dean Anders should have been the name for the character playing the lead in the 200th episode. :D
And don't forget Amanda Tapping.
Tons of shows much better than SG1
Breaking Bad
Game of Thrones
Dexter
Babalon 5
The Orvil
And many other shows.
It is also not original 😅
It's stolen from a movie and expanded upon, but taken from military stories and conspiracy drops that have been leaked many years long before the movie and show ever aired.
Anderson. 🙏
same, i'm the same age.
one funny memory i have while watching macgyver was during a scene where someone says, "hurry up before some jackass comes down the street". then they panned to 3 cars heading down the street and my youngest sister, who was probably around 4 at the time blurted out, "three jackasses!". we weren't allowed to say that word but our whole family laughed because it was so cute and she was correct. lol
Plus, the opening themes back then...I mean A-Team, McGyver, Knight Rider classics.
Absolutely@@happzy !
Hell yes! When I was a kid my family watched MacGyver every week. It was one of the best shows of that time.
There is only one MacGyver and, with no disrespect to Kurt Russell, there is only one O'Neal Two brilliant series I love to watch again whenever they are shown. BTW, I don't know when this video was shot, but Hard Dean Anders looks amazing.
Well Kurt Russell was O'Neall with 2 L's :)
Kurt Russell was the perfect casting for the movie and Richard Dean Anderson was the perfect casting for the series!
Everything he did in his career was so good and memorable
Stargate was good, but MacGyver was and always will be my favorite tv show of all time (tied with Dukes of Hazzard, tbh).
Dang! Richard Dean Anderson looks amazing!! He obviously looks older, but young at the same time. Awesome!! Bing fan!!
He lost weight. He was getting up there for a while, so it’s great that he lost enough to still be healthy and look like his “old” self.
Loved MacGuyver and Stargate. Good to see Richard doing well, I hope he’s having a great life.
It's the same everywhere. Even though SG1 is one of my favourite all time shows, MacGyver was iconic af for an entire generation, almost two.
I can totally hear Tom Sawyer as an awesome McG intro. Thanks for sharing!
Stargate was awesome. So glad to hear from Richard Dean Anderson!
i have asd and it was unheard of when i was a child.
I miss looking forward to a new episode of SG1 every week. Those were the days.. good old days ❤️
Rich played hockey at Ramsey high school. Our rival. The kid was good!
RDA, please come back to Stargate !!!!! You are the best part of Stargate !!!!!
the lighter environment in stargate he mentions was something you could feel as audience, environment like that always fosters great shows!
Great guy.
Big fan 😊 what a nice guy !
Thank you for posting this. Any chance to get to see and hear Richard is a plus for everyone, Thank you
Hard Dean Anders, i love it.
We miss you Richard here in Minnesota. I remember seeing your Ramsey High School hockey games!
I love Stargate SG1 bought the entire 10 season series on DVD
Ditto. Including the direct to DVD releases.
Ditto.
Me too!!
And Atlantis.
I think 🤔 you’re confused on that.
First of all, greetings from Germany, I grew up watching Stargate... and I rewatched the Show atleast 2 times... I LOVE it till today.

Thank you RDA, awesome shows!!!
There are many cases where what a review might find dull and boring i would find exciting and cool specially in stealth genre , it is actually less of an rts and closer to gamers like desperados / commandos both of which i enjoyed :) But yeh Richards looking in top form !!@@Alastor255
I am so excited for you. You doing the full 300+ rewatch or just SG-1?
@@TheCompanionApp have them all I will see how it goes were in season 2.
Of course one could be wrong but I always had the feeling that Stargate was fun for the actors too.
Sea quest?
My dad died when he was 55 and I was 17 and then Stargate was on TV and I watched it just because of Richard because he somewhat looked like my father and he was about the same age as my dad. My dad would be just a couple years older today. You know there are some kind of people who strongly remind you some other people. I somewheat projected it like that.
I grew with stargate. RDA, if you're reading this, thank you for being a TREMENDOUS actor, charismatic to the bitter end. Thank you for all great memories.
2024 StarGate marathon starting. First the movie and then the series. Thank you for the memories.
I love how this just proves, Jack was a result of RDA's natural humor.. Sure you can tell on screen how easy it comes to him... but confirmation helps.
MacGyver was my favorite show growing up.
I love your interviews.👍
It's good to see that his face is not so puffy anymore, hopefully he lives healthier.
Loved the star gate series marks a difficult time in my life.....but this twice daily made me look forward to the day
I remember him as Jeff Weber on General Hospital...
I remember that MacGyver episode with Chris, where you were demonstrating leverage. All things seem to come full circle.
stargate sg1 is real - season 5 episode 12 is just 1 aprovement. i watched the whole serie 3 times and i will watch it again someday. i want 40 more seasons! richard dean anderson, thank you and your team for this masterpiece - greetings to teal´c, dr. daniel jackson and samantha carter :)

I've had a crush on Richard since I first laid eyes on him!! Loves both shows! 💋💖💋💖😆😆🌵👵🐺🖖🎉
He will always be Jeff Webber first to me. If you think he’s fierce contending with adverse conditions or aliens then you should asked about his character’s GH wife Heather. She was wiley to say the least! GH. Mac, SG- Our family loves it all!!! Thank you for your works!!! They are greatly appreciated.
Loved MacGyver amd SG1 two of some my all time favorite TV shows.
Richard Dean Anderson is a gift to the world. I miss seeing him in things but glad he is enjoying life. I would vote for him js
Is this new ? I saw clip of him at a convention a few years ago and he looked horrible. Glad to see him looking better .
I enjoy Richard Dean Anderson in everything he does... I loved MacGyver when it came out, but Stargate was excellent and fun to watch... in fact I watch it whenever I can on Comet as they air reruns of Stargate SG1
Did anyone else watch Legend series?
I wish that had had more seasons. It was fun too.
RDA often says that was his absolute favorite to make.
My man's looking good! God, I hope this means he's gonna be in the next Stargate series!
where canI find the whole interview?
@2:20 :-) i had subtitles on this point, so the black subtitle box actually block RIC- part of the name
Thanks RDA, going to rewatch all the SG1 episodes this year
Love RDA. I loved MacGyver, as a Science graduate. We all knew that though a ;lot of the science was accurate, the timing probably wasn't, but it was a fun show, and he was certainly eye candy. Thanks for the (relatively) non-violent MacGyver
Loved MacGuyver as a kid, and SG1 as an adult.
I miss this show!
Being a Minnesotan, I always loved on Richard would slip in the local Mn jokes. I miss SG-1 a lot.
3:16.
3:16 if you want to skip and hear Richard Dean Anderson’s answer now.
Mr. Anderson you've likely heard this a million times, but I'm 40 and grew up watching MacGyver as a kid. Your character made it cool be the smart kid and seeded my interest in science and problem solving.
