I had no idea anyone survived the crash! I had only seen the recording of the crash. I’m thankful for you guys sharing this so there is further understanding on the topic.

We can see people running out of the wreckage, zoom in on the footage widescreen.

I've enjoyed every single episode of Mysterious World to one degree or another, but this was the most fascinating of them all ... so far! Thank you for a VERY satisfying story. Due to my Mom telling me the story of the Hindenburg Disaster and a really good depiction of it during a "The Walton's" episode when I was young, I have always been drawn to and curious about the event. This was great!

And the radio broadcaster... he was fired. Crazy. I'm from New Jersey. Right down the street. I'm 61 and grew up on the local tales. The humanity... got him fired. Sad. Our family drove past the spot quite often and dad would always say.."That's where it went down". God rest their souls.

I learned a lot from this episode. Helium vs. Hydrogen
    Capacitors vs. batteries
What dirigible means . The difference between a blimp and a zeppelin.
Incredible tragic story with heroes and villains and the science and historical documents that brought the truth to light.
    Fantastic episode.
    Great teamwork.

Wait a minute, if a bomb was set to go off during a scheduled landing time with people on board and the ship was late, the bomb would have exploded earlier not latet with people still onboard during flight, the ship was late, the bomb wouldnt have been and maybe one of the riggers planted a bomb, maybe an altitude sensitive bomb was used planted sometime during the flight, if those types of bombs were available then, perhaps incendiary bullets fired from a high powered rifle from relatively far away? > 53:50

The hanger is still there. I took a tour of it in the mid-70s and as a passenger in a small airplane, we flew southbound along the Jersey shore not long ago. You can see the large storage Hangers while flying along the shore.

Great episode, Jimmy and Dom. I learned a lot about the Hindenburg disaster. Perhaps it wouldn't have exploded if it had been a Led Zeppelin. 😊

    Hey Jimmy and Dom,
I have been looking into ‘Digital Necromancy’ (digitally recreating actors for films) as well as using old clips for films.
I am wondering whether this is moral or not.
In some situations you could say “he/she would approve” but someone approving of an action doesn’t necessarily make it a moral one.
    What do you think?

This disaster has akways been mentioned to me so many times but all I knew about it was that it was a hydrogen blimp gone wrong. Thanks Jimmy!
Also, I'm a plebian suggesting the Guarapiranga Resivoir mutilation. I think its as creepy as Skinwalker Ranch.

Incendiary bullets were used in World War 1 to shoot down observation balloons. So small arms would theoretically have had the capacity to reach and ignite the Hindenburg. However, I find it unlikely that no one around would notice a rifle shot.

53:00 Maybe the bomb was placed by people who were assigned to guard the ship to stop people from placing the bomb in it.

I think the crash of Hindenburg was a critical point in the history of aviation. It was a close thing as there were a number of heavier-than-air crashes with loss of life. It was the newsreel itself that cemented the fate of the lighter-than-air mode. The Morrison newsreel itself is a critical point in the history of journalism - the accidental documentation of a major real-time event. Imagine a newsreel (or serveral) capturing a similar event of a fixed wing aircraft and a fortunate turn of events that allows the hyrodgen-LTA's to avoid crashes from the mid-30's to 1941. You can imagine a robust LTA passenger air transport system developing along with the HTA system of our timeline after 1945 - and much safer since they would all be helium-based.

The airship is awesome to watch, but would probably not have caught on - it's just too slow. I was surprised that they can only do about 120km/h -75mph, and even the fancy hi-tech one to come out of the Skunkworks in the past decade are only that fast (the Zep was definitely advanced for its day!). Though maybe the developers aren't pushing the speed issue that much because they are looking only at the cargo side of things - which is probably short-sighted. If they could get the speed up to 400mph (650km/h) I think, even though a bit slower speed than a jet, the extra leg room and the ability to land really anywhere without noise or a very long runway, and to travel in comfort with lots of room and even the ability to cruise like the Love Boat, would make an airship a winner.

America monopolized helium, other countries forced to use deadly explosive hydrogen.

I hope that they don't reclassify Pluto as a planet because then they would have to baptise all the other planets and I'm not sure if the Roman pantheon has enough gods to name them all. And it's not like we want them to fire up the Parthenon again. Scary stuff.

Sorry, I have to say: Pluto is not a planet. It is in fact a dual planet system, Pluto-Charon.
Anyways, this was a great episode. There's so much to this mystery that the Big Book of What didn't let me on about when I was younger.

Wasn't that a book written by a WWII survivor? Wasn't he a late-night watchman at CDW Caldwell airport? Was his name Jessie? Didn't he land after a parachute jump and lived with a bad limp after the war only to work as a security officer at KCDW in New Jersey in the late 60s and early 70s. I remember a book written by such a man. If that is the man, I knew him personally when I was about age 16.
