  • We're speeding up buses and helping them move past traffic. Recent transit priority projects, completed with the help of the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) and the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT), have reduced bus delays during peak travel times by up to 60 percent. Using simple techniques like re-configuring lanes and updating signs, buses can move through or past traffic.

Trimet needs to run more express and limited buses. I don’t think they even run limiteds anymore so bring them back! That’s how you speed up service !

Problem is they don't work. They do have some express buses still but here is a good example of express service. Barbur Transit Center here comes the 12 to Portland and two people get on. The rest of the people wait another 8-10 minutes for the express that doesn't stop between and downtown. So they could have gotten on the 12 but the false feeling that the express will be faster turns out like this, the 12 is long gone when they board the express and then what happens? somewhere around Hamilton St. and Sheridan St. the express passes the 12 and arrives downtown maybe 2 minutes faster. So no real savings of time. The other problem is the city has caved in to every alternative to cars like bikes to give them their own space in the road and make it more difficult for cars and buses to get where they are going so I don't know what the solution is but what is going on now isn't working. Look at my response to the get rid of the cars guy it is a little deeper into the problems with trimess :)

@@georfeshoemaker5156 How do you ban all cars. Everyone is not going to ride buses because they don't go everywhere people want to go and if everyone did ride buses you would never get anywhere because of loads and stopping at every stop. The biggest problem is the city has choked down streets to make way for all sorts of alternative vehicles so cars only have one lane most places and have to compete with cars and bikes and people who walk out in front of them. Even if we could get rid of all the cars guess what Tri Met can't get enough drivers to put into the buses and drive them for a couple reasons' First the background and drug screen. Then half the new hires don't last a year because of accidents attendance or they just quit after experiencing the people they carry around who disrespect the driver but demand total respect from the driver. I could write a book about the things that are wrong with trimess. From the high wages the management gets to the way they treat their workers (drivers) and the way they fight to cut wages and benefits at every contract while having pie in the sky ideas about increasing the rail system that serves very few instead of putting that money toward new service in areas that have no service. I will stop before I have a stroke :)
