Santa Cruz, you should look at urban markets and make these bikes for the older generation. Have old folks riding responsible like and off the shred. Use ebikes for the ride up the hill and encourage folks to ride with smarts. Bikes for a job commute. Bikes for hauling the groceries.
I don’t think the way people are saying they are “late to the party” is a bad thing. There are SO many mtbers that don’t have an ebike yet because they don’t have one that makes sense for them. I think this one will speak to a lot of those people.
This bike doesn't speak to many people. 1) They went with a Shimano motor and battery combo because they didn't want to bother with the R&D of creating a custom battery. 2) Specialized already has a 700 watt battery and most other manufactures are going with bigger batteries as well as custom designs as well as mullet configurations 3) There are about 20 bikes with the same travel and weight. They did fit the shock pretty low which is good. They look like they were forced to do this by Corporate. It is written all over their faces and when sales are low, they can say "see I told you it was a bad idea.".
pat ortiz depends on who you talk to now does it. It obviously doesn’t speak to you but we both know plenty of people and I know people who this speaks to. Maybe you don’t. And that is ok. Thanks for your opinion. I’m sure you won’t buy one.
@@SteezyMcEasy it is a bike for non-mtbers. If they wanted to make an electric for mtb-ers, it should have been a pumped up, 20 kgs megatower with at least 625 watt battery and a better damn motor. I really do hope for it to be a colosal fail.
Its kinda simple: wattage is wattage, whether it comes from a motor or a human. An e-bike doesn't produce more wattage than a human and does not negatively impact the trail any more than a human. This is not an e-motorcycle, and should be allowed on bike trails. Again...wattage. there are alot of older riders whose knees just can't climb like they used to. To not allow these bikes on trails is just as bad as as not accommodating any other physical ailment. E-motorcycles no, e-bikes yes.
Wattage not, but same human being able to ride 5 laps instead of 2 makes a difference. Also, for the most part ebikes pretty much double the wattage of an average rider, you put out 250W and the motor puts out additional 250W
Santa Cruz has Learned by others mistakes. do it right and dial in to make it that much better each year, I believe. I designed for odyssey and raced a foes. my hard tail bikes and dirt Jumpers have been Santa Cruz for years now. Glad to see they are on board with the E-Bikes. People can come out of their homes now and ride to get back in shape and see the nature again the way God designed it to be, On a bicycle. The bad about e-bikes I see, is education of how to ride them like a dirt bike when twisting at speeds and Brakes in the USA always have been rear on the right side. I built a bike for a customer out of a box and asked if he would like the brakes the USA way, he said NO! I had him sign a document that my shop was not responsible for any damage they may have to their body or bike. It helped because he flipped over his bars grabbing the brake to hard, thinking it was the back, with my letter to the lawyer, it never went to court. Santa Cruz is a great brand.
The price is ridiculous.period. Santa Cruz sold out and considering they use to rag on ebikes, lets be honest this is purely to tap into market share and there buy out.
It’s sad to see Santa Cruz take the business this way. I understand that it is a business and all but I personally think it’s a tarnish to their name. Santa Cruz was created to build mountain bikes not essentially low power dirt bikes. But I’m 16 what do I know
Your last sentence was your smartest. Times change, technology progresses- keep up or be left behind. That’s the real world you’re getting close to entering. Think about it this way- the sales of their e-bikes will fund a boatload of R and D for their mountain bikes and lots of new models. Or should they get outsold and thus have less capital than their competitors to invest into their mountain bikes? If you want SC to continue to be around and make awesome bikes they gotta get in the e-bike game.
Least enthusiastic representatives ever. This sucks man. What's next? You're gonna send one to loosedog with the instructions to pretend he's having fun on it?

@@BrianVaughn And there in lies the problem. Some places have banned ebikes as a knee-jerk reaction - equating them with motorbikes. Nothing could be farther from the truth. My penis is not any shorter if I get passed by a dude on an ebike. Ebikes don't tear up the trails. Ebikes are not a danger to other riders. Ebikes let people who would not otherwise be able to ride, get out in the woods and get some exercise. They still have to pedal. I don't have one and don't intend to buy one anytime soon. When I am older and no longer able to have fun on my mountain bike because of the aerobic effort required, if I am otherwise still able to ride, you can bet I will be getting one if I can afford it at that time. Would have rather seen Santa Cruz approach a gear box and trying to get a light gear box. That seems like a more impressive engineering feat than an E-Bike. But ebikes sell, so follow the money I guess.

I’m a longtime fan of Santa Cruz bikes, but the eHeckler is pretty dated eBike tech, and costs quite a bit more than comparable Specialized models.
Still, it is one of the best looking eBike frames on the market
Interesting subject matter but damn this was super boring to watch. It feels like you had to pry for answers as opposed to them wanting to promote the bike. Kinda like "we were forced to make an ebike bc everybody has one"... Ugh
i'm currently 3:28 in and im not sure i can finish this interview lmao.
interviewer: "do you think you guys are late to the e-bike game?"
rob: "umm. no" and then proceeds with an obviously forced answer. weird
I like it because it looks like a bronston with a larger down tube and it doesnt look like an e bike but a beefed up bronston
SUCH A SICK BIKE!!! 🤙🤙🤙
Frazer Parker Mtb MOTO*
Santa Cruz. They just killed the brand :( Sad Day. It was a good run.
Yup.
Jumping on the band wagon
Santa Cruz, you should look at urban markets and make these bikes for the older generation. Have old folks riding responsible like and off the shred. Use ebikes for the ride up the hill and encourage folks to ride with smarts. Bikes for a job commute. Bikes for hauling the groceries.
Wrong side of history
From those 7k, which the basic one costs, 1.2k are the components(cheap AF), 0.8k is the frame and 5k are the stickers. Only ignorants and brand snobs will buy it. I really do hope for it to be a colosal fail.
I missed the bit where they explained why it costs twice as much as the competitors are offering..
It doesn’t feel like a Santa Cruz
Like that shirt Aaron!!!!!! ;)
SC under pressure from the investors/financiers to get a premium electric priced product out on the market, increase the profits!
Great video. Thanks! E bikes are fun!
how much is this??? 20k
Santa "we will never made an ebike" Cruze!
specy sl is the future not this big toy bike
you have grown because of mad youtube channels like pinkbike enjoying your product... fact.
Cool
Over priced and out of date all ready. Such a let down
My First-gen Levo fsr is for sale. Send my new bike to Canada
Great news another Erika. The more ebikes to chose the better for the customers.
They don’t look to excited about it.
Man these guys don't seem too excited about their own damn creation.
What do you suggest company's do then? Not make money so they can't make any bike for anyone? 🤣
Wow, PB guy REALLY wants a 29'er..
Yeah and it's fucking annoying. Seems every review of 27.5 he knocks on wheel size.
Nice interview! I enjoyed watching it regardless of what all the wanna be pundits have the say in the comments. #LovingLevo
He talks and looks just like Ross creations!!!!😂
My seagull ecotric tear it up 750.00 new 1000w 48v and save my money
You know, we are discussing about mtbs, not undercovered motorbikes.
To be honest I would as uncomfortable to ride the E-bike as they were, at the interview.
Scared what people might say???
Least enthusiastic representatives ever. This sucks man. What's next? You're gonna send one to loosedog with the instructions to pretend he's having fun on it?
Doesn't look like a fun place to work
Their faces say it all, ebikes suck.
I reckon they lead at being lethargic.
Don't fool yourself, it's not a mountain bike... it's a motorbike. There is a motor on it and that might not be an issue in Canada or Europe but it is in the US. Ride it on the OHV trails and keep it off the mountain bike trails.
Brian Vaughn ok boomer
Jeeeeez dude. Actual question, why do you care? And how does someone else riding one effect you ?
@@alexthemtbr trail access. It matters because these bikes are not allowed on most singletrack in the US and idiots selling these bikes don't tell the consumer. It matters.
@@BrianVaughn And there in lies the problem. Some places have banned ebikes as a knee-jerk reaction - equating them with motorbikes. Nothing could be farther from the truth. My local trails are ebike friendly. I've seen ebikes on the trails. One dude rides an ebike and smokes a cigarette when he stops for a water break. Looks weird but does not affect me at all. It will give me several more years of enjoying the outdoors which is what it's all about. You anti-ebike people need to get over your elitist, my way is best, I'm threatened by being passed by an old dude on an ebike, selves.
Brian Vaughn they are allowed everywhere I ride, well on the fireroads. I don’t ride anywhere with legal singletrack access, even for my normal bike! California is fucked.
Can’t remember the last time I rode my MTB or Moto legally.
No politician cares about e bike vs MTB, makes no difference at all
Would have rather seen Santa Cruz approach a gear box and trying to get a light gear box. That seems like a more impressive engineering feat than an E-Bike. But ebikes sell, so follow the money I guess.
Eh.. I’d buy the Trek Rail before this hunk of junk.
If I could afford one I’d be up for it. My fat ass needs help getting up the hills some days. Though. With only 150 it’s. A bit pointless as I can pedal 140 up the hill. I’d rather a 180 or 200 ebike. To make it easier to get more suspension up the hill. But that’s just me.
Get the spesh kenovo. Big frame big battery
too little, too late, for too much
All i want to know is, does Rob Roskopp still skate?!
In a recent interview he mentioned he has been skating recently but it's been so long for him he's having to relearn his old tricks.
I had a 2003 Heckler... what have they done to it?? ELECTRIC MOUNTAIN BIKE, COME ON!!!!!!!! YOU DO NOT WANT TO PEDAL AND GET TIERED?? COME ON!!!!!!IT'S NOT EVEN MOUNTAIN BIKING ANYMORE...IT's RIDING 100 YARDS OF A TRAIL, DOWNHILL!!!! STOPPING AND CHIT CHATTING ABOUT HOW HARD THAT PART OF THE TRAIL WAS or RESTING.... 100 YARDS!!!!you can buy a full MOTORCYCLE for the same price. I KNOW, I DID...
Why they made e bike seen specialized do it and for the money
Far left four eyes. Lol
It is a motor bike and each to his/her own, but it looks stupid to see people all suited up for the offroad and they aren't even pedaling. In a couple of years you won't be able to give these things away.
Read the history of moped's. Ebikes are following the same path. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moped
From skateboards to bikes
isn't it obvious why they make e bike? It's for the money... To be honest e bike is here no matter what people said and there a lot of people love it, in my opinion yes it's good, i can travel more, i can use it to as commuter bike, bike to work, something like that, training especially upper body part it's ok... but should we make e bike race? Defenitely no... oh yeah, also when i comparised price between e bike and MX like KX250F, fu*k that E bike, maybe i trained my whole body with moto (MX) hahahaha
Woohuu... grooves on the bars... never heard about Shimano PRO Tharsis...
Nice bike, not Super Nice. And definitely not worth of 14k
I’m with ya but I think it’s worth closer to 14k then that 19k levo is worth even 14k to me
Agree. But in general these prices start to be ridiculous. With 20k you'd get an electric car...
