Great job and video! Having to extend those cables by a couple of inches or so definitely added to the pain-in-the-ass part of the job. Appreciate your workmanship.
Nice video, watched your other video prior to this one when you did it Hot, I believe our poco would have to de energize underground service conductors or just tape em since now we’re in the 2020 cycle and now required an emergency disconnect.
Have you ever used Burndy barrel crimps with a crimper and heat shrinks or a insulated Polaris taps Isco and T&B make them, most supply house sell them little caps on them and they sell thin in one side out the other side
hey ron, i tried to run a new outlet based on one of your videos. i must have done something wrong since i roasted my chestnuts. will try again soon once i recover. thanks for your videos
Funny how different utilities are. Here in CT eversource lets licensed electricians disconnect services. Now if you have a home owner permit they require an inspection sign off before they will reconnect. But that is not the case for electricians as per their manual.
Always hated seeing those 400 amp boxes when we were pulling up on a house fire. Never had a main disconnect we could get at without opening the boxes; that is changing now, but it was always fun picking who was going to secure the utilities when I was working... 😅 I am doing my home panel in the house we moved in to 3 years ago, from the early 70's on Wednesday. Putting up a new panel and getting the ground bonding fixed, it is a mess right now. The current box is a Bryant 12 slot filled like a birds nest, and have 5 breakers double tapped. Still don't understand how those kinds of boxes make it past the home inspector's all the time... Putting in a SquareD 20 slot 40 Circuit so I can sleep at night. 😁
How big of a hassle (and cost) would it have been for JCPL to run new conductors so you wouldn't have to add extensions? The lugs you used for the extensions took up a lot of space.
Wondering WHY you didn't use Polaris Connectors instead of using Split Bolt Connectors for splicing or tapping those Service Line Conductors for the extra length rerquired to reconnect to the Line side lugs of the New Meter Can ???
We aren’t allowed to use split bolts in most areas around here on services . I don’t personally like them myself and won’t use anyways . Here we aren’t allowed to disconnect or reconnect utility side of power whether overhead or underground . Power company must do and will not reconnect without inspector signing off and emailing approval . Sometimes though it takes a day or two for reconnect depending on what time they receive approval and how busy their crews are.
@@electricianron_New_Jersey it’s not the contractors choice unfortunately . We let the homeowner know that it is a possibility that power won’t be back on for a day or so so they can make arrangements. I also have a portable generator that I use sometimes if they don’t have anywhere to go . The utility company tries to get power on as quick as possible but it’s out of the contractors hands once we complete the job . We can be fined if we tamper even with the meter although I have pulled a few in an emergency and they haven’t said anything
wow what are they going to do to protect the new meter socket thatthe meter is mounted? do jcpl allow that extension and connections inside the socket? our area does not incase there is more settling of the ground
Thanks Ron for such an informative video. Qq, I’m planning to install heat pump for 5 ton unit and need to increase JCPL input, how do I it and how much it could cost?
In our jurisdiction the utility will not let us extend the line side conductors, no taps or extensions allowed. We also can’t cross their conductors with the load side conductors.
Happy Easter! 400 amps! What do they have to even come close to that? My house has 100 amp service and we don’t even come close to needing more and that is while also powering an RV. That being said all our big appliances use natural gas for their heating elements and we drive ICE vehicles.

Service looks good! Just curious why you wouldn't use a polaris connector instead of the split bolts?
Supplier didn’t have that size is what I was told.
I was gonna ask this same question but I saw you asked firsr😊
Nice job Ron.To bad you didn't have any hy-press sleeves
Ron, you just made Easter a tad bit better🎉
Nice job as always. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
We have first energy (the illuminating company) here in Cleveland. Nice work!
All utility comps are pains in the ass.
Thanks Ron for the video. Looking forward for the next. Best regards from Chicago...

Check out the Ilsco PBT line. They're priced way more competitively than Polaris ITG. We only use split bolts for uninsulated splices anymore.

Was there an option or consider lowering the enclosure just 2 inches, cut the conduit?
Thanks.
You're welcome!
Nice job

So you leave homeowners without power? That’s great service.

crew job big down and do a horizontal splice underground to extend
i didn't know a 400 amp meter existed. thoughth 400 amps had to go through CT's
Hi Ron, hope you had a great Easter with you and the family!
Are you allowed to use Polaris connectors in a situation like this?
Thanks Ron for such an informative video. Qq, I’m planning to install heat pump for 5 ton unit and need to increase JCPL input, how do I it and how much it could cost?
Just call them. You’ll have answer in about 8-9 months from now. Good luck!
@@electricianron_New_Jersey oh that doesn't sound good, thanks for your inputs.
@@ninjip3460 first energy is horrible. Good luck.
Where is the video you mentioned on the underground service?
Thank you, Ron, good job as always! If you don’t mind me asking, what tape or tapes, did you use on your split bolts?
Rubber Scotch 33 and then vinyl tape over that.

4 zones of heating and cooling.
Most homes over 3500 square feet are going to need 320
Another good video as always 👍
Thank you! Glad you enjoy the videos.
If this is a residential home with one meter why do they need 400 amps?
For electrical appliances
Load side 500 copper?
Or 400. The line side are 350 aluminum. Good for 250 amps and there’s very little open air since it’s underground conductors. Smh.
Fun vid
Orange & Rockland utility has to have the inspection and cut in card before noon to re energize the same day. Joke
@@wirenut9062 pain in the ass right!?
Big surprise, brand x generator fails to start, good for you I guess.
3.5 hrs at the site......4.0 hrs look at the job, mobilization, other crap you went over.
