I like what this mod is trying to accomplish, but I feel it’d be far better executed if more thought were put into the models used/enemies spawned. The current execution is pretty chaotic visually and gameplay-wise.
Yeah, it’s just random enemies thrown at you. makes the covenant look like they have no ranks, squads or unit cohesion. it’s weird seeing one or two drones fighting alongside 2 skirmishes 2 brutes and an elite in a corridor
most if not all of these campaign overhaul mods feel like this, but I think Halo MCC modding scene is in its infancy so that explains it, seems like every game that supports mods has to go through that phase when people are just trying out things
Honestly having some ex-Covenant species lingering around the base is probably what a lot of us expected when booting up Halo 3 for the first time. If you think about it, the Sangheili turning on the rest of the Covenant was a *huge* moment and it feels like an after thought in Halo 3. We don't even see our Elite allies until the Flood show up, and even then we get a few small squads of Elites that basically die almost immediately if you're playing on anything higher than Normal. Rtas is a fixture in the sky otherwise. And the Covenant seem far too organized in both attire and line up for being on their last stand as they make a mad dash for the Ark. Surely some Grunts and Hunters sided with the Elites, after all, they were with the Elites during the initial turning point. I didn't expect the Drones or Jackals to side with the Elites given the Jackals will go where the treasure is best and the Drones are too aggressive and follow the Hive mind too closely.
It's for gameplay testing reasons. If you watch the vidoc, the animation department had plans for other covenant species to be at war with the Brutes. However, having grunt allies and fighting grunt enemies would be too confusing for players. Maybe not you, but other people. KISS = Keep It Simple, Stupid 19:32
@@BungieStudios how hard is it to include ally grunts in cutscenes, or just a simple color change to show they’re allies? Or maybe look at your crosshair color? I understand their reasons for not including allied grunts or other aliens, but it seems to me they had testers who just couldn’t tell what was an ally and what wasn’t.
I do like that you added more Elites. I always thought it was weird that the Arbiter came to Earth alone. It would be like if the POTUS went to help out the UK in a war by himself. Nice touch.
Lorewise the bulk of the Arbiter's faction of Elites are busy with a quarantine/glassing of Delta Halo/High Charity to make sure the Flood doesn't escape. IIRC the Shadow of Intent and the small fleet that came with it and joined the fight to the Ark was pursuing the Flood-controlled ship that broke through quarantine (the rest of the fleet was still in Delta Halo's system). That being said I always found it cringe that there weren't a small contingent of Elites in the first 4 missions, as if the Arbiter just showed up alone.
Given that Miranda and Johnson, as well as the Arbiter are on Earth; that alone is evidence that Arbiter did not come alone. They only went out with the In Amber Clad, which was on High Charity after it crashed. So Rtas' small fleet had to have brought them back, there's no way they would relocate one Frigate to go out and get them with the fight going on at Earth. And we certainly can not be told to believe that Arbiter took Miranda and Johnson in a small ship to come back to Earth alone. Honestly with the alliance forged between the Elites and Humans, it would certainly make sense that a few Elites are patrolling the ruined corridors of the base of operations. A coin toss if any Honor Guards would be stationed at the War Room of the operation, but I could see it. You'd be more likely to see Minors and Majors patrolling the halls while the Ultra class Elites might hang around areas of importance worth guarding. Of course, now that I think about it, the Brutes would have a harder time taking the Op Center if there were any Honor Guards around lol.
I was expecting something like this the first time I played Halo 3 on 2007. Having Covies as allies like in the end of Halo 2, not only elites but grunts and hunters too. It was disappointing :/ Still was a great campaign
It was mostly cause of friendly and foe situations, ruby made such a mod with allied elites (he made the wraith banshee and ghosts green for allied units and we as players still managed to kill some allied elites, even Xperia said it that now he understands why bungie didn't go with the elites backing you up idea
Reminds me of going through Cortana for the first time. High Charity is self destructing, Flood are scurrying everywhere, trying to stop Chief from escaping. Next thing you know, Cortana picks up a friendly IFF tag and who is it? The Arbiter, wielding a freaking human flamethrower, cutting a path for him and Chief to escape on the downed pelican near the beginning of the level. Very memorable moment for me lol
Weren't they destructable in vanilla? I know they're obviously in other levels but I could swear you could blow them up with the gun emplacements here, too.
I like the idea of this mod. I can imagine that Halo 3 is the covenant and UNSC essentially throwing everything they have left at each other. That's why you see "heretic" covenant. Literally covenant wearing mining gear conscripted to fight.
I think replacing the Halo 3 Marines with Halo Reach Marines/Army Troopers would be cool, never understood why the Marines were the only ground forces on earth. H2A Marines would also look dope.
This is the greatest thing ever. What Halo 3's forces should've looked like, except for Miranda's H2A 50yo face model. Woof. I can understand why you did it though. Connecting it with H2A. Just a shame 343 did her dirty like that, lol.
Awesome work, still prefer to have the Brutes as the main leading force of the Covenant, having some Elites working with them seem off, it's better to change the Brute's combat behavior, like increase their chance of berserking and strong hp,. Overall love this.

I'm not gonna lie, I'd rather play with this than vanilla Halo 3. Is it jank? Yeah but at least there is more than just the elites trying to assist you in battle. You cannot convince me that it wasn't JUST the elites that sided with the UNSC towards the end of the trilogy like the hunters, grunts (willingly or not is up in the air), jackals and hell I'm sure there are some BRUTES that don't agree with the Prophet of Truth at this point that aren't apart of the Banished that'd love to kick Truth's ass for suspiciously kicking out the elites after failing to stop Master Chief from killing the Prophet on Delta Halo (I think that's the one in Halo 2, details are a little fuzzy). Halo 3 whether people want to admit it or not is a mess from the campaign to the multiplayer.

@@TheRoseReaper Bro, how is fighting Elites in Halo 3 more lore accurate? Especially when there's the Heretic Elites from Halo 2 on both sides?
