Hi, I am an Indonesian (Surabaya) from Utah. I have been watching your channel in the last a few weeks. It seems your family has been enjoying the foods and trip. There are delicious vegetarian option for your wife like gado-gado and nasi pecel (vegetables and peanut sauce). They are everywhere in East Java. You should visit my hometown Surabaya. The foods are really good. They are cheaper than in Jakarta. Enjoy it!
@@BagsPackedFamily in jakarta also have gado gado what's delicious in some places is that it's filled with vegetables with a light peanut sauce. It's perfect for eating with rice, I like it too
For eating bubur, your wife can request “no chicken on the porridge/bubur” rather than the plain one, so you still get others topping, the peanuts, fried shallots, chives, crackers, cakwe/chinese doughnut etc, and get the yellow soup seasoning (kuah bubur) with pepper. The plain one is good too, but some places just feel no flavor because not mixed with coconut milk (santan)
the chips are emping. it's made from melinjo fruit. sometimes it's fried plain, sometimes they put sweet seasonings on it. It's a good alternative to carbohydrate based chips. they have a slightly bitter taste but once you get used to them, they'are delicious. the breadcrumbs are ca kueh (chinese for fried bread). this is quite common companion to congee in other chinese influenced congee eating countries like singapore, malaysia, china. z kelly can eat just regular bubur without the chicken, so she can enjoy the condiments like emping, ca kueh, aromatic leaves, and fried shallots.
You and the family are awesome to be willing to try different things. Your kids are going to have a life time of memories. I love they are open to different food! Salamat jalan!
Eat their bubur with their martabak is one of my ultimate comfort food, add the sambal and salty soya sauce is my way to go, glad ur fam also enjoy it!
wow, if not mistaken this bubur ayam Cikini has started its business more than 35 years ago? they started very small at the corner of one of the building in Cikini area. at the beginning, it only opened late afternoon at 5.30 and they prepared the porridge traditionally on top of burning woods the taste was so good so different than generally chicken porridge. if this was the same bubur ayam seller, i must applaud the owner for being in the business for so long. it had to be irreplaceable for having consistent quality for ages.
Hai.... I am a new subscriber but I've watched lots of your video for this few days. How you explained all the place you've been visitted with your family were so amazing and also your children are so adorable. Can't wait to watch your next video...
Morning is indeed the perfect time to eat bubur ayam. When I was in college, bubur ayam was my perfect breakfast because it was not too heavy but pretty filling as it helped me get through the 2nd period :D. Generally, it's a pretty popular breakfast dish all around Indonesia and different regions have their own specialty in bubur ayam. So sorry Forest wasn't a big fan of :D Actually, Kelly could ask some cakwe, fried pangsit crackers, or emping as the vegetarian toppings. Glad that Granite and Cedar enjoyed it! I found your channel a few days ago and have been binge-watching your videos. Your kids are adorable! If you ever think of coming to Jogja, I'd love to take you around! :)
Thank you so much for the tip! There are so many delicious options in Indonesia for food! We look forward to many more adventures is this amazing country! :-)
*all around the java island and for people from jawa that migrated to other islands. Like really. In other islands, their breakfast obviously different.
@@DBT1007 I actually expected someone would correct this info XD but yeah, wanted to say this as well, because I was born in Kalimantan and there are many Javanese there, and I did have bubur ayam breakfast as well when I lived there (I live in Java now). I didn't say this in the first place because I never lived in Sumatra/Sulawesi, and I'm afraid if I claimed "only" Javanese eat bubur ayam as breakfast, turned out there was some kind of Medanese bubur ayam for example (again, this is just an example), I didn't want Medanese comes after me claiming they also have their kind of bubur ayam. LOL what an explanation! I hope you get what I mean XD peace!
it is also perfect for late night meal. like when you are a bit hungry in the middle of the night. unfortunately it is not easy to find in late night. exception for one road in kota bogor. cant remember the name of it. there you can find so many bubur ayam sellers side by side from midnight till dawn.
It was cute that you try to trick Forest to eat bubur by saying that an oat meal, "Oat meal? Sure.." and then, *wait a minute, is it really an oat meal? Granite and Cedar was adorable, they got the indonesian spirit, no spicy no party. although for condiments like sambal, kecap, acar (picke) we usually try to put only a little bit at the edge, every time we visit new place, since we don't know how spicy it is or if we like the flavor, since it was kind of hit and miss even for us locals. always great to see you family positive energy to try new things and enjoy the bright side of your adventure
Thanks, Reikan. We are really enjoying the many Jakarta culinary options. Indonesia, overall, has great food. Our kids are really becoming adventurous eaters!
Thank you, you have introduced one of Indonesia's typical foods to your children. And your children really enjoy the food. Always healthy for your family 👍👍👍
