PRO Tip: bleed the fish when you catch them and it won’t have so much red meat. Just take some shears and snip a gill while your fish are in the fish basket/stringer. Your fish will taste a lot better!

Man I used to catch them now and again on Tawakoni while crappie fishing and I always kept them. I did what you did get the red meat out like on anything and it makes an excellent eating fish.

Youre about like me buddy. People talk trash on trash fish all the time but aint none of them every tried it! Best tasting fish i ever had was a small gar, ubder about 2 foot long. Had to skin it with tin snips. Gut it, cut the head and tail off then chunk up the meat, bone and all, put it into a meat grinder. Mix it up with seasonings, a bit of corn meal and green onions. Form the meat into bite size balls, coat the balls in a bit of seasoned flour and fry. They come out looking like hush puppies. Everyone at the party loved them but still talk smack about gar! People are wild

To me fresh water drum isn't good but remember this, all fresh water fish has a distant cousin in salt water. Just because fresh water tastes one way, the salt water fish looks alike but they taste different trust me it's a difference and if u cut the drums head in half u will find 2 pearls in it
