  • This is a technique very popular in Flatland BMX, and one that I am working on improving with everyday. A few of you asked for this tutorial so here you go! It is difficult to explain and truly is something you have to understand (like any other trick), and the only way you will do that is practice. So grab some tips, grab your bike, and time to ride!

Well, that's the second video on how to pump. Now, it's all on me to figure it out. Just wondering if a heavier bike makes it harder to pump steamroller/ front wheel tricks. And does a straighter head tube angle help? I thought pulling the seat back was important, but it seems like it is all handle bars plus foot.

That's all it ever was bro 🙏 I hope the tips can help, but at the end of the day we gotta get out there and teach ourselves to do these crazy moves we once thought impossible. As for the weight difference, I'm not sure, if anything I think it would make it a stronger pump due to creating more energy, but of course requiring more strength, but I'd say the difference is minimal. Headtube angle will mostly affect the trick itself, and so maybe the pumping of it slightly as a result, but if its what you learned on you should be good either way. & You do pull the seat slightly but it's mostly in the front wheel/bar movement.

@mikooooooooooooo still after 2 years I can't figure it out. I think there is something I'm missing, I never get a feeling that I am getting more energy with the foot moving inside. Carving out then back in seems to be part of my problem. I have a tight grip on the bars and seat, should this be more relaxed? Is there a feeling when you carve that you are gaining speed like when on both tires?
So, what I'm catching on is that when you bring your foot in, you kind of push the bike forward with momentum, is that right? Is that natural or forced. Like do you push the bike forward with the foot that is on the peg at the same time you bring the foot in? It would be so much easier if I rode with others who did this already, but everyone here, all 4, all can't figure it out.

Good job! I suggest a pumping uphill will give a lot of core-pump power=)

I guess I'm oldschool. I've been around the sport since the beginning and all the one-footed pumping looks way to sketchy to me. I learned a bunch of combos over the years without the use of pumping.

Fair point Duane! It can for sure look sketchy, but it can definitely help save a combo or gain momentum when needed for another trick that wouldn't otherwise be possible, cons and pros to everything I guess! And of course your riding style is yours to do what you like with, that's one of the best things about flat 👊
