@@packedentertainment2866Ww2 D-Day. You know, Operation: Overlord, when the allies launched a mass scale invasion on Normandy against Nazi Germany. One of the bloodiest battles of the war
Yeah, personally I liked invasion of Umbara more, probably because the CIS fought more competently as well. Invasion of Mandalore is also epic, sadly it was too short because Order 66 took priority.
Realistic depiction of how, historically speaking, invasion landings so often are some of the most challenging and chaotic operations any military can undertake and just how many are barely rescued from the jaws of defeat. You gotta think; you are moving men, materiel, munitions, vehicles, supplies, and enough food and support equipment into hostile territory that you first need to suitably bombard and take so you have your beachhead. Geonosis was flat and desolate more than anything else with high output of battle droids and Geonosian drones to act as Cannon fodder. You’re having them land at a position that is very difficult if not almost impossible to hold for long. Heavy casualties in an operation like this were practically inevitable and victory certainly was not assured.
And the most unfortunate part of it all is that the operation should‘be been a major success with nowhere near as many casualties. This episode also goes to show the arrogance and inexperience of the Jedi when it comes to military affairs
@@CollinMcLean lack of intelligence on Geonosian resistance shows the mentality of the Jedi hadn’t changed from the first battle of Geonosis, where the Jedi expected to kick the door down and the Geonosians would roll over. Then there’s the REALLY dumb idea of trying to just land ground troops as part of the first wave instead of using their air power to bomb enemy positions for a day first. The actual landing plan wasn’t bad, it was just a bad idea to land ground troops without softening up enemy fortifications first, and Cody basically saved the operation by mounting an effective defense of Point Rain.
Obi Wan just... Sitting down, revealing that he was absolutely at the end of his rope, is utterly chilling. That reveals just how close this battle was to being a complete loss, when one of the best Jedi in the entire Order had to take a breather. ONE of the best written episodes, both for the story, the actual content in it, and making the realities of war real.
Arguably THE best Jedi. If we just mean in terms of combat prowess, there's a good case to be made for him being the best. His mastery of form 3 was on par with Windu's mastery of form 7, and superior to Yoda's mastery of form 4. Beyond this he's an incredibly prodigious force user. If we're talking "best" as in "who best upholds the tenets and principles of the Jedi", he's just explicitly number one and there's not even a debate. Kenobi (as we see in the show) was literally written to embody the "good" aspects of the Jedi order more fully and completely than anyone else.
@@castillejan I'd argue that Kenobi is in a way similar to Dr. Doom from Marvel; Second best at everything. He isn't the strongest in the Force, but he is very high up there. He isn't the strongest fighter (time and time again, Windu is proclaimed Nr. 1), but again, he is very proficient in it. Same as him following the Jedi tenets. He knows when do bend the rules, but rarely breaks and mostly upholds them. Being second best at one thing makes you just a second place character. Being second best at a ton of things makes you extremely well rounded.
@@Hunterfalke I agree completely, though one small correction: Windu was touted as the best swordsman in the order because Form 7 is naturally predisposed to excel in the types of battles that were being fought in the clone wars. Droids don't defend themselves the way humanoids do, and form 7 is like the world's biggest hard counter to any non-defensive form of combat, lightsaber or otherwise. In terms of actual skill with their respective forms, Kenobi is stated multiple times to be just as masterful as Windu, it's kinda like comparing two masters of different martial arts disciplines. It's just that Kenobi's lightsaber form is at a huge disadvantage in terms of practicality against an opponent like the separatist droids. This did however make Kenobi an incredible asset when it came to hunting down dark side force users, because where form 3 DOES excel is against aggressive opponents. It's specifically designed to do so. The tl;dr here is that on a chaotic battlefield Windu was by far the better warrior, any day of the week. But in a vacuum, and a 1v1 scenario Kenobi would actually almost certainly have been able to beat Windu; simply because Form 3 is easily Form 7's worst matchup, and the two were "even" in terms of skill. Kenobi is probably the only Jedi in the order that could win a duel with Windu, even if outside of that setting Windu surpassed him significantly. It's kinda neat.
That is a pilot error. The bomb bay doors and the landing gear handle are close to each other. Sometimes, pilots would operate the bomb bay door without looking and would hit the gears down handle instead. It could also be a malfunction on the craft due to pilot breaking a perfectly functional craft. The GBCU (Gear Box Control Unit) and the MDCU (Main Door Control Unit) are linked at the MCU #8 (Main Control Unit) sometimes if the MCU gives out, alot of different things could happen at once, such as gears go down when bomb bays doors open. Maintainers on the ground would remove and replace the MCU #8 to fix the issue. Also, there is a slight chance that the wires in the craft are short to each other. Or short to wire. This will also cause unwanted power to go to the GBCU and would active the landing gear. But I highly doubt that would be the cause since that is a rare problem, and this happened on two crafts. I'm putting my money on pilots, though.
Whilst I agree with you for a real life situation this is most likely a classic animation mistake as there have been many such mistakes present in the clone wars show along the years
@@houseslippers7732 Could have also been on purpose as a way for the pilots to reduce drag on the craft to slow down and ensure accurate delivery of the ordinance. Although that was certainly a design oversight by Koensayr Manufacturing placing both handles right next to each other. But in wartime, bad batches of MCU's were known to be shipped to the fleet, not unheard of for a unit to go bad during combat operations.
Literally one of my favorite scenes from the Clone Wars. Obi-Wan is terribly hurt but if he goes down he is going down fighting. The way he musters the courage for one more fight and the relief on his face and in the clone's voice when they see and hear the call for reinforcements. Absolutely accurate and perfectly executed.
This scene just enthralled me with Obi Wan, especially in the context of how our guys were talking at the start of the episode, about how they're not sure there will be any end to this war any time soon. Obi's lost so much, from the marred mentor-relationship-chain in his life with Qui Gon's death and his mentor Dooku's darkside downfall in the throes of grief over the loss. Not to mention how he's watching years of a war-torn world affecting the lives of kids like Anakin & Ahsoka, especially with Anakin already giving a limb to the cause at such a young age. Years of Obi's life, so many of his old friends and all the young padawans they care for, not to mention all his clone compatriots he's come to respect & love, all poured into this galactic wildfire that keeps getting larger & hotter. His morale's broken while they are knee-deep in a choppy invasion, which has roped-in organics that were once citizens of the Republic, not repairable droids, into the grinder of both sides' munitions & casualty rates. And now, thoroughly cornered with no room to run, Obi has to flip on his saber & accept that he may have to go down fighting like so many compatriots before him, never getting an answer to his question of "When will all of this end?...", "When will we finally be free from this?..." The bombers flying in, carpeting the Geonosians and saving him & his clone friends, is a good bit of solace that they've secured another day, or at least another few hours, but Obi Wan's morale is still wounded and the mortifying mental & emotional rollercoaster he just went on certainly didn't help. He just sits, quietly, too exhausted to celebrate or even open his eyes... I love that, to conclude all this, the first thing he sees when he opens his eyes is Ahsoka, just crouching to his level and checking if he's okay. He opens his eyes to the future., the potential for compassion in a young heart, even in a future like this. Even if, ultimately heartbreakingly, the war never ends...for decades after this day...and he will never see its conclusion in his lifetime. but still, that quiet "I'm okay" smile he gives her in these moments is just 🤌✨ Sorry for the essay. This kind of quiet, artful storytelling just really matters to me for some reason.
I'd like to say first that Obi Wan is my favorite Jedi... and I understand his purity as a Jedi and the challenges that comes with is what makes him such an incredible character. But I have to give props to the animators for the look in his eyes at the beginning of this. You can see him fighting with all of his might to not let the dark side consume his exhaustion. At this point of exhaustion where rage and hatred fuel soldiers, he's actively fighting the temptation. And you can see it from five seconds of animation... that is crazy.
his "What did I win?" line stuck with me all those years. He understands that Anakin and Ahsoka deal with war in this "game" way, but also shows them how hollow the feeling of a high kill count is.
That 'reinforcements, reinforcements have arrived!' and everything in the short aftermath always, I mean always, sends a chill down my spine! The build up, the utter desesperation of the situation, the music... oh man, I knew it's a good episode but still I feel like I didn't appreciate it enough. Now I just want to go and watch it again 😂 And if that part of doing research in the writing room is accurate, that makes this scene, and whole episode, that much better!
The Mandalorian has been more good than bad also. I'll give you this though, it's easier to name the handful of good things to come out since CW than it is to list all the bad.
This is one of my favorite battle arc episodes in the series! This along with the Battles of Mon Calamari and Umbara really put the WAR in Star Wars. Or Clone Wars in this case I guess.
Obi igniting his sabre was very much a beacon, flag planting, this is where we hold them, type moment. The 2nd geonosis battle along with the ryloth and mon cala campaigns are some of my favourite arcs
I love how well the Clone Wars captures war in general. Let this be a lesson in writing, a little bit of research goes a long way in improving the quality of the scenes you’re writing, and a lot of research makes your writing incredibly immersive, realistic, and most importantly, it makes your audience care about what happens next. On an unrelated note, I also love the parallels of Obi-Wan’s preparation for a final stand, and Cal Kestis’s rage towards the 9th sister in Jedi: Survivor. Might be accidental, but I love it regardless.
One thing I really like about this arc and this episode in particular which I think gets overlooked is how Ki Adi tells Yularen “There is no such thing as luck.” which really seems to irk Yularen, and Yularen later decides not to send the aid to Ki Adi, choosing rather to send it to Kenobi.
It was truly an amazing arc from the clone wars and I tip my hat to everyone who was involved in making it (especially the person who came up with the idea to use this style for the episodes).
I love it when a show that doesn’t ordinarily show characters with bruises, cuts, or blood make an appearance of wounds less than a handful of times. Really sells the desperation of war.
Re-watching this as an adult, the episode gave me "Saving Private Ryan D-Day landing scene" vibes. Hearing that they actually watched war movies for inspiration, I now know for sure this was intentional.
Literally just watched this episode last night and it gave me chills and filled me with so much dread cause it truly showed how brutal the war is with no sugar coating. The only exception being the plot armor of the main characters.
I'm glad you love that scene too--it always stood out to me. It's not often you see resignation and defiance at the same time in Clone Wars, and to see it in Kenobi is crazy.
you know, I like the Geonosis arc, especially the first 2 episodes. To be honest, most big battles have always been in the background, but here you could really feel the scale of the battle.
Gamifying and making jokes about war situations is a common mode by which active soldiers cope with the horrors of war. Only way to stay sane sometimes.
I need to re-watch this series. As great as it is a lot of episodes start to blend together after awhile, especially since they would reuse planets every so often.
I recently watched it in chronological timeline order (which has a ridiculous amount of season hopping btw) and I'm starting to feel that way already. It doesn't make me love it any less though, it's just SO MUCH content.
That may just be more accurate to war than it first seems lol. I imagine a lot of battles would seem to just blend together after a while, especially if it’s in the same location multiple times.
I thought you were gonna talk about the shot of them storming the base!! That wide shot from the side angle was so fire and they never used it again!!🔥🔥
its a little heartbreaking now, when you realize Ahsoka is litterly 14. When i was a kid i enjoyed the action, now, i cant help but just see the dread an moral decay. Child soldiers (padawans) slave soldiers (droids and clones), War crimes on both sides. the political szenes driving home how the republic is corrupt and careless, the separatists ruthless and controlled by one cruel man alone. A galaxy broken and peacekeepers turned into conquers. and the helplessness of the Jedi seeing the galaxy so full of pain they cant prevent, but also have to cause themselves. and all the common people caught in the middle. The show is a good reminder why incompetent or corrupt leadership is so dangerous. why considering all sides of a conflict is important. why light and dark just isn't that simple. its heartbreaking, action filled and complex, and looks so damn good too. one heck of a show.
I recently showed this episode and ‘Darkness on Umbara’ to my dad who’s a 9 year Marine Corps veteran, and he loved actually seeing the war in Star Wars, especially in something he previously wrote off as just a kids show.
I love how the animated series of Clone Wars ranged from a DnD game to Vietnam/desert storm POV movies. Like either we're fighting a space dragon, forces of good and evil OR soldiers are questioning if war has a purpose, while eating burgers somewhere.
Keep in mind, aside from Felucia, Geonosis was one of the planets that the Clones never wanted to come back to after their first engagement but had to in order to slow or stop the Seperatists in that sector of space.
I'm not sure what it's called, but it is something that comes from every story of a heroic stand where people survived to tell the tale. It is the moment where the walls close in. You realize that you can either fight or give up. For whatever reason, soldiers realize this and fight harder and with more vigor than at any other time. Even though death is imminent, even though fighting more doesn't change that, there is this _need_ to rage against the inevitable and spit in the face of death. It isn't logical or rational, but it is hardcoded into what we are. Somehow, the animators perfectly encapsulated that vigor and clear-headed rage in Kenobi's face. The understanding that death is here, the desire to not let go without a fight, and the need to, as a great jedi once said, "make the end memorable."
And then they also managed to sprinkle in some comedy in this episode when Anakin and Ahsoka breach the giant wall and throw Rex off the side. I love this episode so much
The Clone Wars reminds me a lot of the prequels in that it has some really great moments, some good moments and some absolutely awful ones. It also has a ton of potential that was never fully realized.
That arc was intense. Still get chills with the Geonosians slowly pushing back the entrenched Clones and an injured Kenobi preparing for a last stand.

Literally just watched this episode last night and it gave me chills and filled me with so much dread cause it truly showed how brutal the war is with no sugar coating. The only exception being the plot armor of the main characters.
Still getting goose bumbs from this scene
I'm glad you love that scene too--it always stood out to me. It's not often you see resignation and defiance at the same time in Clone Wars, and to see it in Kenobi is crazy.
you know, I like the Geonosis arc, especially the first 2 episodes. To be honest, most big battles have always been in the background, but here you could really feel the scale of the battle.
Gamifying and making jokes about war situations is a common mode by which active soldiers cope with the horrors of war. Only way to stay sane sometimes.
In the famous words of a US Marine at Belleau Woods, "Retreat, Hell! We just got here!"
Amazing arc and I gotta say this may be the first time I have run into a video under a minute after it was uploaded
One of my favourite episodes
“Good thing those bugs can’t aim”
We’ll be right back.
0:12 Cant ever unhear the Ewoks
The rawest moment in the Acolyte was the credits 🔥
Loved this arc
Waxer and Boil running towards gunfire to save Kenobi will always be one of my favorite moments of the series. Such bro's!🥹🔥
Would be better with 10 seconds before hand.
Clones losing they're last defensive position and forming a circle around Obiwan.
I thought you were gonna talk about the shot of them storming the base!! That wide shot from the side angle was so fire and they never used it again!!🔥🔥
I could not tell you how many times I watched these episodes as a kid the initial crash of that gunship was amazing
Yoda in the originals: hee hee hoo hoo little creature i am. ooooo huuhuhuhu
Yoda in the prequels: backflip i do. responsible for war crimes i am.
The fleet arriving from hyperspace is still one of my favorite shots in Star Wars
i’ve never really thought about how obi-wan was literally preparing to DIE
how anyone could fail to enjoy this show is beyond me
its a little heartbreaking now, when you realize Ahsoka is litterly 14.
Geonosis, Umbara, Christophsis and Mandalor were pure eye candy
The Second Invasion of Geonosis is the Guadalcanal of the Clone Wars.
Obi-Wan was a second away from putting it all on the line
This just brings back memories of my childhood.
May the Force be with you
I always said this episode/s embodied what the clone war experience was. “Landing at point rain” was 10/10
Man that first Y-Wing SCREAMING in is absolutely classic
The first time I watched this episode, I was in shock when all three gunships that were carrying Jedi were shot down.
This was one of my favorite episodes. It definitely has a ww2 band of brothers feel to it.
I loved these little moments throughout the whole show that are very reminiscent of proper war movies.
The second invasion of geonosis was brutal
Yeah the hard work in the WW2 research certainly translates to the screen. See for yourself
The whole Geonosis arc in season 2 is one of my favourites throughout the show.
Such a great show
Reinvigorated my love for Star Wars
Remember when Star Wars was Star Wars it isn't anymore.
Obi wan getting ready to lock in is one of my favorite moments. Either they'll pull through, or their gunna die.
I love the geonosians and the wars that take place on that planet.
Watching those Y-wings has to be one of the best scenes in the show. I love clone pilots.
The collapse after getting reinforcements is a heck of a scene
Landing at Point Rain is one of my favorite Clone Wars episodes overall.
I need to watch some of these episodes again ong.
One of the episodes that cements TCW as some of the best of star wars "support" content. Kids show my ass.
I love how the animated series of Clone Wars ranged from a DnD game to Vietnam/desert storm POV movies.
Like either we're fighting a space dragon, forces of good and evil OR soldiers are questioning if war has a purpose, while eating burgers somewhere.
0:02 RAW ASF
In real life, the troops would have heard the godly sound of an A-10's cannon turning the enemy into swiss cheese.
Keep in mind, aside from Felucia, Geonosis was one of the planets that the Clones never wanted to come back to after their first engagement but had to in order to slow or stop the Seperatists in that sector of space.
It gives me "Point Du Hoc" vibes. I love the Clone Wars because there are so much history references.
the sound of the y-wing sent chills down my spine
Obi-Wan Kenobi was going to basically go out like Ima-Gun Di. Imagine how the story would have unfolded if he died in that battle.
Lucas yet again proving he will always be king.
I always find it going so hard how Giga Chad Kenobi is preparing to make a final stance with his 212th🗿
The saddest thing about this entire show, was at the end. And I mean the final minutes during the very last episode, none of this mattered.
“Mixey dicey”
This kevlish language is intriguing, dare I say juicy, even!
This is my favorite episode of the series. Even better than the final arc for me.
One of my favorite episodes of the series
Just in case anyone wants to see the episode like I did, the episode is Season 2 Episode 5 :)
And then they also managed to sprinkle in some comedy in this episode when Anakin and Ahsoka breach the giant wall and throw Rex off the side.
I love this episode so much
I’d love to see an entire 20-30 minute video on how Star Wars portrays the gamification of war
That was probably my favorite episode from the early seasons.
The reinforcements coming in is literally my favourite scene in all of star Wars.
The Clone Wars reminds me a lot of the prequels in that it has some really great moments, some good moments and some absolutely awful ones. It also has a ton of potential that was never fully realized.
