What's more impressive is anya is self taught.unlike others she was not born half Japanese and learned it from her family.she was just a regular otaku with a jp friend that loved reading together
My friend was a Big Black Man (I said Black because he's not African, he's Indonesian, born in Papua) who is fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese. And I look like your Super Stereotypical Asian guy, short, slanted eyes, glasses but I can't speak Mandarin cuz I'm Indonesian.
One time we were hanging out in a convenient store and a group of Chinese tourists came and apparently they are lost and really afraid to ask around and just talking within their group, my friend pick up on their conversation and he just butt in and said something to get their attention (I don't know what he said), all of them turned towards us, looked at me and said some Chinese gibberish which I don't understand to me. My friend then just talk and helped them.
Their face though when they find out that I am not the one who can speak Mandarin. They seemed both conflicted and disappointed at me 😅

That's what my teacher said to me when teaching Japanese in the class. When Japanese say "Nihongo Jouzu ne~" To you, that's mean theyamaze you can speak Japanese, but just that. After that, they will use formal one to you as you just a "Gaijin". But when you speak very fluently, usually they will say "Wait, how many years you stay at Japan?" or "Are you half?". That's mean, even they suprise how they fuk your are fluent in Japanese. Moreover, if you're to fluent both Japanese and Kanji, they will say "Why are you more fluent than me????".
Basically, the more fluent you are, the more suprise Japanese at you.

the sensei part highly come from Sora the troll(Japan TH-camr who speak english) tier list. he's making a tier list for foreigner who can talk japanese language. the stream not long ago/pretty recently .
for stories circulating on the JP community...since long ago,they complimenting how "native" Anya intonation is, really knowledgeable with japanese slangs, knows japanese meme.

She is Confident interacting with JP Members, she's just not confident interacting with EN Members. Because her Japanese is far better than her English.
the confident that I mean here is more to confident stepping out her comfort zone. from her stream last year when she call the "overseas"Holo member she never talk to.
after the stream she really try putting an effort on it. collab with Roboco Choco, collab with the council girls, collab with Ina and Watame, collab one on one with Lamy and Sora. but after that the cycle keep repeating with the same girls over and over(this also means she's becoming more comfortable interacting with them which is good in it's own way).
in this Rust episode,we see her interact with more girls,outside the circle she's used to. like Pekora, Subaru, Miko, Ame, Matsuri, and more interaction with Koyori,Fubuki and Polka
Saying a few Japanese words like self introductions fluently is one thing… but being able to follow and engage in a conversation with native Japanese speaker fluently is just next level.
Indeed. Learning a few phrases isn't that hard, but actual conversation is another step, it means really understanding the language, not just the words.
And that goes for every language.

The thing about Anya fluency is not just grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. It also the accent. I remember warching a video in which Japanese guy comment that Anya manner of speech is pretty much the same as a Japanese person.

The thing about Anya is she speaks Japanese like a local, but she also speaks Indonesia like a born and raised local. It's almost futile to determine whether she's Japanese or not.

I remember early on when Irys debut, a few of JP weren't sure if they should default to speaking to her in English or Japanese even though she is Japanese herself lol.
I'm not sure why it's different with Anya and her seamless integration

Anya and Irys have similar speech style when streaming, randomly switching between various languages while talking. Except Anya sounded more natural than Irys who has been living there for some time now.
Irys is still better. She has japanese blood afterall.
Anya switched between 3 languages naturally, it's almost confusing, but somehow it's not. Because most of the time when she did something, she'll explain it in 3 different languages so that everyone is in the same page.
@@chargemankent I think the interresting thing about anya's code switching is that she didn't repeat a sentence in 3 languages. Instead she continues her talk/sentence in different language but the context from last sentence in different language is not lost. So it feels more natural.

Also JP talents when Anya states she doesn't know English in English and her attempts at trying to backtrack.: Various forms of calling her on her bs, while stating that in Japanese.
It's pretty clear HoloJP knows more English than they let on XD.
Most of JP know extremely basic English words. Also keep in mind a lot of Japanese just uses English in its lexicon anyway, it's easy to forget that the word "anime" is technically a word of English origin, for example. Also, Subaru is in this group, who has some of the best understanding of English in JP. I think most of them really only know a very small amount of English. The ones who know a notable amount more than the rest are Subaru, A-chan, and Lui
well, being able to understand english and speaking english are 2 completely different things. + anya did speak with very basic english words so ig thats why the jp members were able to understand her.
