@@PrimordialEconomics The Insight's E-CVT has only one gear. There is nothing in the transmission that can change gears. How is this possible you might wonder? Well, you start off using the electric traction motor. The engine drives a generator. At about 45 mph the engine is connected to the drive wheels by way of a automatic style clutch. At about 65 mph the electric traction motor quits and its all engine. So, no shift points, it doesn't shift.
The paddles control the level of regen in braking. Also like the way the insight looks compared to most other hybrids. When I tested one I thought it was a bit too buzzy and felt like it was struggling at certain points, but honestly most of the time you don’t need to punch it and it’s a great value for that much mpg.
@@his47250 Nope... Got talked into getting an Accord Hybrid. I did drive the Insight and it was great, but the Accord Hybrid is better if you don't mind the increase price.
@@his47250 no worries! The Accord is larger (Not really wider. But definitely longer), has some additional features like wireless phone charging and wireless Car Play / Android Auto. It also has a more powerful engine, more trunk and rear leg room, and a ton more. It would be a very long reply if I listed all the differences. Stuff like a heads up display, heated and cooled seats, heated steering wheel, more speakers, a slightly better Honda Sensing suite (at least in my testers), a more premium feeling interior, etc. Basically, all the additional features aren't necessarily stuff you "need". It's more just additional comfort things. If you're on a budget, the Insight is, in my opinion, the best hybrid for the price. If you can spend a little more and don't mind have a longer car, the Accord is the closest thing to a luxury car that isn't a luxury car that I've been in (except for Mazda, but they don't make hybrids yet). The biggest draw for me to the Accord were the seat. Honda's 10-way adjustable seats are far, FAR better than anything the Insight (or Toyota) has, at least for me. I have some back pains because my boss doesn't believe in ergonomics, so my car's seat needs to be comfortable, especially when my day has me driving 7 hours. And the Accord seats are way more comfortable than the Insight. Not saying the Insight has bad seats, but 4-way vs 10-way seats is a big difference. Again, you can't go wrong with ether. They're both on reliable platforms (the Accord has a long history of reliability, and the Insight is based on the Civic, which has a almost god-like reliability history), great fuel economy, and have some amazing safety features.

I Put 20 dollars of unleaded gas in Mrs. Etta James (California gas prices too) and dam near had an orgasm when I saw she was nearly full! TWENTY SOMETHING DOLLARS for a weeks worth of going to work and errands. HELL to the YEAH!!!
Really the only reason to get the Touring over the EX are the leather seats. I got a 2020 EX, wish I had leather seats - but the ex is much better value, IMO, (+ a bit more MPG due to smaller tires)
I am hoping to get an EX myself. I agree, it’s a better value. You also pick up some additional room in the trunk over the Touring model too. This is because the Touring has additional speakers 10 vs 8 over the EX. I’d take the better mileage as well. The tires may be a little less expensive (16” vs 17”). I put tires on my Crosstour (18”), cripes they expensive. Hence why I cringe every time I hear someone make a comment that a car ‘only’ has 15 or 16” wheels, honestly not that big of a deal. Hope you are enjoying your car... my Crosstour is eating me out of house and home as far as fuel consumption 😂, looking forward to 50 mpg’s.
There are many reasons. The touring has these options that the EX does not. Leather seats, heated seats, moonroof, Premium 450 watt stereo system with 10 speakers, Navigation with voice recognition and hd digital traffic, a passenger side seat back pocket, Homelink remote system, dual zone climate control, leather steering wheel, auto dim rearview mirror, 8 way power driver seat and 4 way power passenger seat, LED Turn indicator on side mirrors with chrome trim, rain sensing wipers, chrome trim door handles, LED fog lights, Front bumper vent and 17 inch tires.
The paddles are for regenerative braking!
How is this dude doing car reviews and not know this. The cars been out since 2018 🤦♂️
Silly guy
@@hostaris it's actually advertised as shifting paddles, to manually adjust shift points for things like snappier overtaking on the etc freeway.

Those are the regenerative braking paddles, for braking assist
Should you be using the paddles all the time or have it set on a mode?
Oh my god I am so in love with this vehicle... I got the touring model.. it is just super good for the price and the beauty

How's the road noise compared to a Crosstrek? I'm extremely tired of road noise.
Excellent and thorough review, as always my friend! Keep them coming! Happy Fall!
Does 2021 has digital speedometer in MPH? Like in 2021 Accord.
this cars design is so much better than the accord. from afar this looks like a jag
Would you say this or the Hyundai sonata hybrid blue is better? I’m conflicted...
Yes imo... better warranty, better tech & better styling but both are great picks in the end! 👍

Is the Insight chassis based on the Civic or the Accord or something else?
Civic
All 3 and the CR-V are on the same chassis actually, and it's not a cvt it's a final drive transmission.
The back looks better than the Accord 😂
I wish the civic dashboard looks like the Insight
It’s beautiful
G'day, mate!
I Found the 2021 Suburban on Apple Chevrolet York, PA website!!! Can you do it?
Awesome! I'll try to film it next weekend then! Appreciate the heads up! 😁
Is this civic size car?
Yeah
The paddle shifters do absolutely nothing because they aren't programmed to control simulated gears?
They control the level of regen braking
I love your videos
Thanks!

the back lights are WAY better than the 10th gen civic….
