Watching Rarran trying to understand things like Omnath or double prowess reminded me why "reading the card explains the card" is such a meme in magic
And it wasn't even a full explaination, or at least a fully correct one. All you need is three mana symbols on the card. In any combination.
I love the part where he would ask for explanations... For things on the card...
Because he didnt read the entire card....
@@RealityMasterRogue No, he asked for explanations because he didn't understand the parts he did read.
@@altrivotzck6565People with years playing the same game when they see a newbie: "What do you mean you've never seen an effect like this? Just read the card!"
I've played Yu-Gi-Oh and Magic both for a while before moving to Hearthstone. Both Yu-gi-Oh and MtG had tons of cards that I never understood or were so full of text that I didn't even bother to learn them. As far as I remember I never had that problem a single time in over 8 years of Hearthstone. I never saw a card that took me longer than 5 seconds to understand what it does, even keywords are explained short but clear in sidebars. So yeah, Hearthstone is definitely a lot better in explaining its cards. Though I also think that always keeping the card text so compact and short also made it harder or even impossible to release more complicated cards. You can already notice it in cards like Zephrys where the text says "..., wish for the perfect card." and you're completely left on your own to find out whatever that means.
Rarran: what kind of sick mind games is Voxy playing
Voxy: i want to show Rarran all of my favorite busted cards
can't blame her
Voxy gave Rarran so many busted cards and it messed with him so bad. He kept mindgaming himself and it was brilliant.
"is this card good?" (looking at a 12/12 trample that summons another 12/12 trample when it attacks for a total of 24 damage)
@@doombybbr It usually won't make another 12/12, the attack triggers only count *other* attacking creatures - so you would need to have a 2nd 12-power creature to attack with (in which case you're probably already going to win regardless). Still a pretty game-winning card if you have basically any reasonable attacks from your other creatures, of course, especially in limited.
@@Icameron259 I missed the "other"
@@doombybbr You're not the first, and certainly won't be the last. :p I reckon most figure that out after attacking in with just M&G, too.
@@doombybbr dont feel bad if you get to attack with it you still probably win like 90% of the time in limited.
So, a quick heads up, there is generally 15 cards to a draft pack (sometimes the land doesn't matter, but normally it's kept in. Basic lands are provided). So you will end up with 45 cards at the end of the draft. Using these 45 cards you need to make a minimum 40 card deck (which will generally consist of 16-18 basic lands from outside what you drafted). So in that set of 45 cards you drafted you're looking for 22-24 "playables".
Thanks!
Rarran explaining what a token deck is to a magic player is the funniest thing I've ever seen 😂
If he knew the shi* that we have to go through
I'd love him to play a token deck and then have someone cast End the Festivities, or Massacre Wurm on him xD
The best is when a Hearthstone player explains "ramp" druid or "mill" rouge to a magic player. Saying this as someone who played HS first before finding MTG 😂
@@zombiegamer1069i once broke MtgA with a token deck fighting a token deck. It broke down the server instance, because we had thousands of tokens that did shit each, all the proccing etc caused the game to lag to death, with MINUTES passing between each interaction. I filmed it with my phone lol
@@MattHembling well, the terminology might be different across the games, how would he know? you saw this when he said "haste is like charge right" and voxy's reaction was like "huh??"
Now I really want to watch a video of you, Voxy and Stevie Blunder where everyone shows some cards to the others from Hearthstone, Magic and Yu-Gi-Oh respectively and you try to rate them as a duo. Would be really interesting to see the perspectives each one of you takes
Pls mot Stevie again
@@mudkippug stevies great :(
@@jpeanut146 Stevie's fucking hilarious lol
Get Legends of Runeterra in there too and its a party
This would be giga dope
Its been 10 years since I've played magic and as I'm looking at these cards I keep thinking "This thing looks insane, but we just did a 5/5 card so surely she didn't give us another one."
Power creep is a huge thing now. Due to the main fact that Wizards of the Coast is focusing on players from the commander format, cards and their effects must be powerful enough for that format. You can witness uncommon rarity cards nowadays able to do things that mythic rares only could do ten years ago.
She's picked a lot of the MOM bombs, and MOM was the culmination of a story arc and full of very flashy effects. A lot of the strongest constructed cards aren't so wordy, but cards in the last 5 years are by and large significantly more complex than ever before.
@@Layjus123to be fair a lot of the mythics ten years ago sucked ass haha
@@Layjus123 You can even see it in the commons/uncommons. 20 years ago, a 1/1 for 1R that had an ability (like first strike or could tap to do something) was premium. Now? Wouldn't even make the cut over basic lands in Limited.
@@percyvile 10 years ago was Sphinx's Revelation, Huntmaster of the Fells, Liliana of the Veil, and Entreat the Angels. Those cards are absolutely nuts in comparison to cards from 2003. Commander has seeped its way into regular Magic, which means everything has to be a 3-for-1 because EDH is a 4-player battle royale format.
Maybe we do this again but with a core set next time 😅
Or with Time Spiral!

really happy to see your channel blowing up after this collab, i imagine you're stoked about it! really fun content
Rarran continues to completely misunderstand spell speeds in MtG; Voxy continues to fail to correct him.
I think he confuses it with runeterra spell speeds
Very surprising to see someone doing this that doesn't know... "How many cards are in a pack? How many get drafted?"...
Watching Voxy struggle to not explode of laughter at Rarran's analysis was so entertaining lmao
The Elesh Norn bit was so good
The last time I was this early, Rarran was still rating Yu-Gi-Oh! cards.
We need Stevie back or we riot
It's hard to evaluate yugioh cards because they never work as a single card, let's say dogmatika alba zoa is a terrible card on his own but in conjunction with iblee and punishment you ends up being locked out of special summon completely.
Good times. I enjoyed how every modern card would always have a stressed reaction to the fact it's 300 words long.
I mean, the only difference between this and yu gi oh is that you don't call it yu gi oh lol
"Rarran sees an actual card game" is my favorite series on the channel, solid gold
Magic as it is now is barely a functional card game.
I think he thought sacking 3 creatures was a harsher cost because HS has a creature limit and MTG does not
It would normally still pretty harsh in Magic, except the first line of the Saga completely refunds your creatures plus extra. I think it just didn't sink in for him all the stuff that line does, and at the same time all the crazy stuff on the back distracted him from the crazy stuff on the front.
@@felonyx5123 sure in your average deck, but in MTG there's a lot more decks that can just poop out loads of low value token creatures. That's just not really a thing in HS. In MTG you can essentially just keep improving your board by continuing to make more equally low value creatures. In HS if you want to keep improving your board pretty quickly you have to start improving the value of your minions rather than quantity.
I mean, you still have to work for it. Fortunately Elesh Norn is pretty good and setting up a board stall where you can just build up enough creatures to flip her. You also have to watch out for instant speed removal. If you sack 3 creatures and pay 3 mana, then in response the opponent kills your Elesh Norn and you get nothing, you're all but guaranteed to lose that game. It's easy enough to avoid short of your opponent having a Pile On you don't know about, but it is a pretty big gotcha for what's otherwise such a powerful bomb.
@@felonyx5123harsh? Red, Green, and White make a shitton of tokens
Omnath's ability works even if you reveal a mono-colored card. It just has to have three colored mana pips in the casting cost, and will only add three mana of that color. The way Voxy explained it, made it sound like it only works with tri-colored cards only.
As much as it's cool showing fancy, over the top, bomb-y cards in those videos, having unassuming draft (un)commons is also nice and doesn't happen often. Lucky to have Voxy be a draft-only player so she can (and wants to) talk about that stuff.
edit: How's mom's head not here?!
God I love this collab, theyre so perfectly chaotic together
6:21 "Hearthstone has never done anything like this"
Twinspell Twinspell Twinspell anyone?
Nice time stamp
Reborn Reborn
@@TheKastellan I wish they did reborn reborn. It would be so cool.
There is a treasure in duels for DK that has revive in (2) turns
@@Liliana_the_ghost_catwasn’t there a treasure in the saviors of Uldum single player adventure that had a bunch of reborn?
It wasn't really clarified in the video, but with Omnath the colored mana symbols don't necessarily have to be different colors. It can be monocolored like Nyxbloom Ancient or two colored. As long as it has at least 3 colored pips in it's mana cost, Omnath will still trigger.
thats a good point thanks for mentioning that
Still meh in a limited format.
I don't think he entirely computed that it let's carry over unspent mana between turns either.
I don't play MTG (roughly know the rules and how to play thats it), but when I see double prowess, Hearthstone does have multiple same keywords like that. In the Dalaran Heist run, there is a candle treasure that deals 3 dmg to all enemy minions, WHICH has triple twinspell keywords~
Dang, you were faster than me, I was just pointing that out!
@@Azrael_Rhinco Aye great minds think alike my friend😝
Based on his reaction to double prowess, I want to see his response to Apex Devastator's 5x Cascades, lol.
I believe, depending on how you see it Adapt also works but it varies. The text can be like Volcanosaur, very close saying "Adapt, then Adapt", or like Galvadon (Adapt 5 times), but yeah.
There's also that cat with Reborn, Reborn, Reborn, right?
Sunfall is one of the few cards that I would say you pick regardless of the colors you’re already in. Pack 3 pick 1 if you get Sunfall, you now have white in your deck. Limited games can stall with large board states on both sides, so a board wipe that also gives you a large creature is a great way to turn a stalemate into a victory.
Ye Wrath effects are premium real estate in Limited. Even in high-power environments (like Vintage Cube), a 5-mana Wrath of God is an easy first pick.
You know what would be cool? Watching spoilers of new cards together, either Hearthstone or MtG
Another great idea, man these comments have been popping off
8:14 "you're gonna get at minimum one Rarran every pack"
Pog
About Glistening Dawn, as Voxy said you'll cast it around turn 6-7.
Playing a green deck means that by that turn you'll control at least 150 forests!
We did have an "exile all creatures" card in HS at one point. It was that Reno Jackson mage hero that everyone hated because it made the HP cast a random spell each turn
I was really hoping he would mention the *puff* effect there, sad he didn't.
15:45 incubators are literally dormant cards that you pay mana to wake up. Hearthstone also has cards that let you sac your things, also has cards that do damage to the opponent when they damage it, also has mass board buffs, also has board wipes. There is also cards in HS that transform into different ones. Literally everything this card does exists in some form in HS xD
I think especially for limited environment videos just explaining the set mechanics before the guessing is a good idea. It's only like 3 mechanics (incubate, battle, convoke) I think and it would give more context for guesses
Forsure. Should start with a few simpler uncommons to explain each mechanic then move to the flashy/complicated rares
Rarran is the Voxy of Hearthstone and Voxy is the Rarran of MTG.
100%
We need someone to come on the channel to teach Rarran how to make a "Skuee" (iykyk) Brawl/Commander deck
PLEASE do more videos together! Your energy is infectious. Maybe you could help her with an arena run or she could help you with a limited run. Or just other card rating videos, just anything :D
She kinda hinted that Elesh would be good when she called it Mom format and this one is mom
I mean, the set code is literally MOM
So there are many formats in magic, and different cards shine in different format. It’s interesting to see that Omnath is gabo tier in limited, but it’s absolutely insane in formats like commander. (A format which you know you’ll always have access to Omnath so you only put 3 colors spells in your deck.)
Eh, I think it's kind of mid in all formats. Green based decks have the fixing to cast it without too much cost, but it's still just a 4 mana 4/4 that mostly just draws a card every turn, which is solid, but not amazing. In commander it's mostly a 4 mana 4/4 that draws a card and usually makes 3 mana a turn, which is pretty good, but counteracted by the heavily incentivizing making your deck very clunky to get the most out of it. When most of your deck is 3+ drops that are very color intensive, you're just not getting off to very fast starts before Omnath comes down, which limits the power of the deck.
When Voxy needs the opinion of someone that doesn't know anything about Magic to validate her hateful propaganda against Yargle 🤬 (That was an amazing video, very funny and entertaining)
I hope you watched the Rarran draft on her channel because he wanted to pick Yargle so bad and she basically forced him not to lmao
Yo if she would have attempted to do the yargle line it would have been the greatest part of the video even if she would have just said ribbit it would have been hilarious
Sounds like someone's yargles were bargled.
@@evelezpumaa 9/3 is scary. Even if it's vanilla

I love how Rarran is scared or very careful pronouncing character names but I'm waiting for him to come across "Asmoranomardicadaistinaculdacar" as I feel it would be riot seeing his brain melt. Not to mention it's one of best memes and all time payoffs of MTG history.
i've yet to see a spellspear transform because it gets removed the turn after it is played almost every time.
People know
I love this series a lot and Voxy has grown on me as one of the best guests featured so far (Nobody can top Stevie, the GOAT). Her laugh is a bit goofy, but that makes it a very contagious laughter. Great video again
Justice for yargle
I like how the format can determine if a card is good or not. My Yargle and Multani commander deck is one of my most powerful decks. It makes sense Yargle is not good in limited because you probably won't get the tools needed to take advantage of Yargle's size.
As a Ziatora commander player, Yargle is one of my favourite creatures to throw in the game. Worldspine Wurm might be the only one that beats him.
"There's nothing to get a card out of exile" Squee would like a word with you (^:
I think you mean Skewy
Also misthollow griffin and riftsweeper
The video is explicitly dealing with limited so as a clarification what she meant is that there is not a way currently in limited to bring an arbitrary card out of exile.
@@SurfTheSkyline I assure you, Skewy is in limited and he can come from exile
@@a_guy_in_orange7230 sorry I should have clarified better. When I used the word arbitrary it was to say that unless a card itself states it can come out of exile somehow it is staying there and another card isn't going to help it out and I mentioned limited because I honestly can't remember at this point if there is a card that can retrieve other cards from exile somewhere out there in one of the older sets.

I mean... he did get confused by LoR's Darkin equipment. I didn't even know that was possible.
Gonna be honest tho, magic is easily one of the most complicated games I've played in my life.
for the magic players out there. Ward counters the spell that targets the creature with ward if the ward cost is not paid. Learned this the hard way when I had a ward 2 and ward 1 on a creature; guy targeted it with a removal spell that said "cannot be countered", and opted to not pay either ward cost still killing my creature
i didnt know that, good to know

Omnath is one of those cards that was unusable in limited, ignored in standard, and overshadowed in commander
I wish i saw more people running this in EDH
Loving these collabs with Voxy, the two of you together are really entertaining
I'm absolutely loving these collabs.
I feel like rarran would do better if he got to read the draft archetype list for the set. Cards are so much more contextually dependent in MTG vs HS especially. Hell I actively play MTG and I still got some stuff "wrong"
I'd say hearthstone arena has some of the contextuality too, depending on the meta. For example you often see cards that effectively say "this card sucks unless you're holding a dragon in your hand" and it's hard to intuitively grasp if they're good picks early on in a draft unless you can look at hs replay stats for average nr of dragons per arena deck.
*that being said*, there is a massive difference between magic drafting and hearthstone drafting, which is that hearthstone drafting lacks time limits. So you can read about the meta and look at stats for hours before making picks.
Omnath was a good example. In a format like Champions of Kamigawa Limited, 4 colors is unplayable. In Khans of Tarkir? I'm playing 5 colors already so Omnath is undercosted at four mana and two life.
2/2 flyers for two colorless and one mana are generally great in any format. In Return to Ravnica, a french vanilla 2/2 flyer for 4 was worth playing. But holy shit that _thing even makes a token?_ Inject those commons straight into my veins.
Since February I stopped playing hearthstone and got into magic pretty heavily. So to watch this for my MOM being my first real expansion is how I felt learning about these cards lol granted I think Ren should try to play a actual commander game
Her laugh is the best ❤
So, while yes, Etali Primal Sickness is easier to get rid of by exiling it, it can die by having its toughness reduced to 0 through cards like Toxic Deluge or it can die by being sacrificed through Edict effects. It can also be temporarily removed through Boomerang style effects.
Oh, this is what you were referencing when you drafted in mtg. I hope you'll collaborate with Voxy again in the future!
I just don't wanted this video to end. You could review the whole of MoM and I'd just eat that up
I don't ever want to see another video without these two. This is gold.
12:00 another piece that makes omnath so weak is that there isnt a lot of triple color cards in the set. including omnath AND the multiverse legends cards, theres 10 total 3+ color cards in the ENTIRE set. So omnath is almost never giving you mana
You don't need the card to be three colors to get the Omnath mana, just three colored mana symbols. Omnath can get mana when revealing Yargle and Multani or Polukranos Reborn.
Mr. Rarran, love your mtg content and its so fun to watch your interactions with Voxy. Keep it up!
"it is a little ramp in MOM" okay Voxy 😂
Honestly 4/5 seems right for Ghalta and Mavren. It's expensive and color intensive in a format that can be pretty fast. It's one of the best bombs if it sticks around, but it also just doesn't do much immediately and has no protection against removal other than being big. It's not a terribly uncommon situation where it enters, makes a 3/3, and then eats a removal spell. That's not awful, but there's a lot of bombs in the set that can do so much more in their worst case scenario, or are just like half the mana cost and almost as backbreaking. I've also had games where it just ended before I got to 7 mana, or didn't hit double green, double white before the game ended and Ghalta and Mavren was just a dead card in hand. It's very good if you do cast it and it does stick around, but there's enough caveats there that I don't think it can just be a full 5/5.
This collab continues to be the best.
omg I would watch anything these two do together relating to magic or hearthstone even tho I don't play hearthstone.
The sorting algorithm made me laugh way harder than it should 😂😂😂.
I want to add to breach the multiverse, it triggers enter the battlefield (etb) effects. Unlike battlecry, an etb triggers anytime it enters the field so you can double dip on good etbs in both decks.
Its a bit hard to evaluate cards for limited because it REALLY depends on the current set and the meta. Even the very best players in Magic get cards wildly wrong when doing their pre-set evaluations because of this. If a card is excellent in this set, it doesn't mean it will be great in another set. E.g. if you took Preening Champion and put it in Adventures of the Forgotten realm where blue was unplayable, it wouldn't be good enough to lift up blue in that set, nor would it being a knight or producing red/blue tokens matter as much.
Also, cards that are good at the start of a format (e.g. blue/black cards for this set) might be worse to draft by the end of the set (e.g. blue/black cards for this set) because they become overdrafted (blue/black went from the best colour pair to the third worst colour pair in this set so far).
Overall I think you did pretty well considering!
Also, Voxy lied a little bit, she said Khenra Spellspear is a 5/5, it is like a 3/5 tbh. The card in a vacuum would be a 4/5 (it's not a 5/5 cause it's not as powerful as some of the rare cards like Elspeth, Sunfall, Elesh Norn, Etali etc.), but also red is the worst colour in the set, so it gets bumped down to a 3/5. It might be the best card in a vacuum, but you would take a preening champion (or a range of blue cards) over it because blue is much better than red in this set.
Indestructible creatures can also be removed by giving it enough -x/-x where x equals the amount of defense a creature it is. PS: this is not combat damage, just spells or abbilities that do -x/-x.
They have the same exact energy and I'm here for it
You and voxy have the best energy together

I haven't played magic in years and still did a pretty good job guessing most of these cards. I'm quite proud of myself. I haven't played a game of magic since 2016 so 7 years. I wasn't a huge limited player, more of a commander guy myself, so I'm quite pleased I did so well. I underestimated a bit on some of the cards but was generally in the right direction with most of the cards. Omnath would be an amazing commander card; you'd be able to do nutty things with that as a commander.
Love the collabs with Voxy. Keep 'em coming the two of you have great chemistry together.
Cards like Omnath really go to show just how different each magic gamemode is, in a game type like commander, Omnath is probably one of the better general purpose five color cards out there.
Things like this are precisely why I think Magic is the best card game on the market.
Voxy fighting all the urges to not laugh while Rarran is guessing is hilarious
I've seen too many limited games where someone don't get to 7 lands and die with the big bombs in hand to give 10/5 to Ghalta, Kogla etc. The only exception I can give is for Etali where you don't need to untap for it to be backbreaking.
I was with Voxy laghting at rarran the whole video
“Libarry” - Rarran 😂. Great video man!
Hey Rarran, the video description is the same as the first collab with Voxy but this video is basically the opposite.
You guys are fun together!
Since this was about limited, I would have liked more emphasis on commons and uncommons.
I had the same reaction as him looking at that Omnath, but when I played it was mostly commander. That seems like a solid commander, a 4 mana 2 life 4/4 that gives you a mana battery and card advantage seems awesome. From the perspective of limited, building a 5 color deck seems suicidal since you're not getting your dual lands, and even in constructed formats like standard and modern where you would be able to have fancy lands it's gotta be bad for being slow. Like my modern deck was designed for optimal turn 2 kill, and average turn 3 with no ramp. An Urza player can drop up to a 7 cost colorless on turn 3 with no ramp.
13:10 You heard it here first folks, Elesh Norn has a back side.
Slight correction on indestructible. Indestructible creatures can also die if a spell or ability reduces their toughness to 0. Also you can force your opponent to sacrifice it as well.
I will say though that rating cards for MtG limited in, essentially, a vacuum is *really* difficult, because the circumstances of what makes a card go from decent to either great or nearly garbage can vary significantly depending on the set. Like, sometimes three mana for an essentially vanilla 3/3 creature is amazing, but sometimes it's junk because its types aren't relevant, and the stats are just in a really awkward spot where you don't really want or need 3 power or toughness unless you get other benefits out of it.
i remember getting the krosan cloudscaper. i think that was the name of it. it was a 13/13 at that time it was one of the biggest creatures currently available at its time. i felt so baller playing this.
I played a yargle and multani deck, basically no other rares in arena. It was wonderful when the opponent concedes to yargle and multani.
Yargle has played pretty well for me. It either gets double-blocked and you blow them out or just trades for a bunch of tokens. Sometimes you get to live the dream and Kitesail your opponent into the shadow realm.
can anyone say her that patches is something inbetween a fetch land and a companion?
I doubt she will get that, as she primarily plays limited, where you don't usually get to understand the power of fetch lands
Yeah, like patches isn't "strong" But there's just no reason not to play it(for pirate deck)
In magic patches is more times than not total garbage.
She just not accounting for no blockers, way more limited mana and actions in general and half the cards in the deck with no lands
So yeah hearthstone is already way more consistent than magic so one less card is way better.
Fetch lands are great because not only it's thinning the deck but it's also fixing your mana and lowering your chances to draw lands
@@pedrof6767 Even in magic, something like patches would still be great. There would be no good reason not to play it.
It makes your deck 1.67% weaker to mill, but no one plays 61 or more cards because it would make them stronger against mill.
From there, it makes your deck 1.67% more consistent, and you get a free 1/1 that fits your tribe. There is no downside that magic players wouldn't already take (remember, we don't play extra cards to make ourselves stronger against mill)
There's a pretty good example of a similar card in Yugioh. It was a card that in magic would read: pay 0 generic mana, draw a card. Every single top player just played the max copies of them in their deck, because there was no reason not to, and it effectively dropped the minimum deck size from 40 to 36.
@@altrivotzck6565 it always amazes me how people get hung up on patches being a 1/1 and don’t realize that unless you can say that all 30 cards in your deck are equally powerful, patches removes the worst of those 30 and let’s you draw the best 29.
Voxy's face in thos could be a video on its own...
Gotta love how Rarran is entering Matrix trying to guess if a card is good, and meanwhile Voxy is almost dying of silent laughter. Those zoom-in almost scream "look at this lil' shit having the moment of her life". This was payback for the Patches incident I'm sure.
Voxy is easily one of the funniest guest Rarran had ! Her smile, her laugh, eveyrthing is son entertaining and funny to watch ! A real pleasure. She can come doingthis kind of videso anytime soon.
I was playing MTG like 15 years ago, i did some drafts with my friends back then! It is as she dsecribes it, and it's an INSANELY fun way to build your deck! The most fun card game mode i've ever played in my life!
“Have you ever played Yugioh? No but I read a card once and wanted to die”
Huh?? Elesh Norn literally a wall of text on BOTH sides of the card LMAO
At least it was a well formatted wall of text.
