    I really like your methodical way of using a table saw, I think I have learned alot just by seeing how you use eyes and hands and combination of the two. Keeping an eye on that fence and slowly wrestling the plywood behemoths through. I will keep watching all your videos that you are nice enough to put out there. I have been here in silence for years, now not so much I suppose, so thank you for teaching me so many things.

      @@RSterkenburg Thank you for your strong concern for my health, and I can report that the only time it comes off is when I use sled with hold downs of workpiece. I have gotten a kickback in my stomach years ago and it turned it blue from hip to chest, so I was "lucky" to experience the stupidity in a harmless way that I don't want to happen again.

      Here is a novel idea, LEARN HOW TO USE THE SAW!!!! Whether you use a riving knife or not, whether you leave the poorly designed guard in place or not, LEARN TO USE THE SAW!!!! Kick back happens when you, the operator, does something stupid. Riving knifes are great accessories, but they do not make up for you doing something stupid. And the table saw is capable of doing things that a riving knife would prevent (ie. cutting large cove moldings). So although I agree that a riving knife is a nice to have feature, the man clearly knows how to use a saw, so exerting your OPINION as fact and the only “correct” answer is even more STUPID!!!!!!!

    Hi John,
    Another great video - thanks! Good timing, as I will soon be building a set.
    I have a suggestion for your doweling of the face frame stile/rail joint. Where things will be hidden (such as the sides of the stiles where two cabinets are side by side), I will put the joint together, then install the dowel from outside:
    1) Glue the joint
    2) Clamp it in a corner clamp (such as Izzy's wedge corner clamp) {Optional - usually #3 below is enough}
    3) Pin the joint with a brad nailer to keep it aligned - put the brads to the sides away from where the dowel will go {also optional}
    4) with the joint glued and aligned, drill all the way through the stile, into the end of the rail.
    5) Glue & install an extra long dowel.
    6) clamp with bar clamp to keep the joint tight.

    I just wonder why that dowel jig didn't work for you, I've used such tool with success, drilling and trouble-less-ly gluing up 21 dowel joints, my piece of wood was a bit taller(deeper) and it was good for over 50 holes, later it started to get too loose, but the project I built it for - was done before that.

    Does the other clamp that has the proper reach due to the cut-out for the kick keep that from being a problem, or do you do the next step (top stretchers) right after so they keep that clamp from pulling the case out of alignment?

    • @JohnHeisz

      The only real thing that's important on TH-cam is that people watch the video, and as much of the video as possible. Thumbs up and comments have very little impact on how well a video performs. Still, nice for those of us that work hard doing this to get some positive feedback in the form of likes and comments.

    John, I build plenty of kitchen cabinets, but they're all frameless. What was the reason for the frames nextending past the cabinet sides?

    • @JohnHeisz
      @JohnHeisz  4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      It's a typical detail for modular face frame cabinets and serves a few purposes.
      First, it's a cleaner look than trying to make it flush with the side panel.
      Second, it gives something to plane down to make the cabinets fit together tightly when installing them.
      And third is that it helps when mounting the cabinet on a wall that's not straight, since only those two frame edges need to be tight together, and not the whole surface side panels.
