This is what it looks and sounds like when an artist rips themselves open and pours everything of themselves out onto the stage. Just absolute raw power and passion in this performance.
My Dad used to sing this song at full belt driving his 60's VW van down a windy Gulf Island road like a King! He'd sing it anywhere and at anytime. He loved these Womyn. He showed me that love in his joy listening to and telling me the power and truth of the music. It's a great way to stay connected with him since he's left this realm. I miss you Dad. In this music I feel you. Love you, Sam
Pure passion! God I love her voice, the rasp, the little cracks that add so much character and make her sound so distinctive, and a vibrato that makes you melt. This is REAL music folks!
I saw these ladies in 1989 for this tour. Just two INSANELY talented women with acoustic guitars and tons of passion and soul. It doesn't get a whole lot better than this!
This is the song that opened my heart, my soul, my ears and my eyes to what it means to be an artist and what it means and looks like when a singer has an HONEST connection to a song. Memory lane, but thank you Amy. I went on to be a huge fan and became a diverse listener of music, but this is my cornerstone.
you girls got me through 5yrs of foster care, which wasn't easy but thnx too you ladies, I couldn't have made it without your awesome music...thank you so much!!!!!!!
Every foster home is different...but must say my life would've been hopeless without it...it was a horrible home, but u are correct we did survive...thank u
Amy Blum wow that's a real accolade to the Indigo girls, im glad that you came through and had something to go to for strength and something you could always rely on. Their music has been like sound track to my life and sounds like it has been for you too x
This song calls to the cold steel reality knife of pain, the red hot fire of longing, and the emptiness of grief... It makes your heart yank at your chest, makes you feel the thousand lightbulbs of hope blink in your chest, it transports you to a place where the world is made of, for lack of better words.. Blood and Fire
Saw them in Seattle - summer nights on the pier. 64 yrs old now and still cry when I hear this song. Especially like the end with Emily sitting on the side of stage enraptured like the rest of us.
I've lost count of the times I've seen her perform, yet the intensity of her performance here still blows my mind. I've seen nothing else like it. The emotion - I can STILL hear it/see it/feel it pouring out of her every time I watch it. Wow. Just wow. Wish I had been there.
Just extrodinary music --- none other like it --- saw them in Minneapolis - I cried. Met them both. I 'll never forget and I will listen to them - the lyrics resonate with my soul --- they'll be in my life for all time.
It's been years since I've listened to the Indigo Girls, and the wisdom that age has brought me has only even further deepened the meaning of their music to me. What powerful souls! Thank you for sharing!
all i can say is i love you....and thank you for being there through all my years of growth and pain and loss and love and joy. I have loved you for years and will continue to spread your song you are fairies of light
Amy your music always inspires me to pick up my guitar and play away. This song is one of your best. Your Spirit shows through your music. Many Blessings to you Indigo girl
so great...i cannot even describe. I'm mildly upset that the passion and brilliance of this song has gone unrecognicnized as long as it has. Ugh.....whatever, ty, Amy for getting me thru the 90's ......
I can still see myself in 1990, playing this album in my little San Francisco apartment when I was in my 20s. What wonderful times. All these years later, my life has changed so much, but these songs are still so important.
Same here...I'm also a guitar player and truly do love my other favorite players, mainly Edward Van Halen & David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) and their bands, along with other fave bands including Duran Duran, U2, R.E.M., etc., but I've seen Indigo Girls more times live than any of the rest, and they blow away every other act for always singing and playing note perfect. Their voices alone make my hair stand on end! All music has a magical quality to it, but the music these women have created IS magic!
As a guitar player, I grew up on KISS, Van Halen, Ozzy, as well as Chicago, CS&N, The Grateful Dead, and eventually a healthy diet of Frank Zappa. At the risk of sounding corny, these two girls and their two guitars have touched me more than probably all of the other music I've ever listened to combined.
Something about the raw emotion and power of this as well as the original, reaches deep within me and squeezes my soul.... I cannot listen to it without tears....
Not to mention that they're the only music group I've ever had dreams about (let alone recurring) in which I meet up with them and they're like old, dear friends. This went on here and there for a period of about 10 years, starting after the first time I saw them live in '92. I used to look forward to the dreams! Indigo Girls simply speak to a deeper part of humanity every time they perform.
Indigo Girls are forever amazing! I just love this song! Amy Ray has such an incredible, passionate, raspy voice....only comparable to Melissa Etheridge....I am always gonna be their most favorite fan!!!
I know Amy hates/ cringes at this song because it is so dramatic and very "self" ....I wish she understood how INCREDIBLY it encapsulated /expressed that seemingly life defining love of young adulthood .....when romantic love? was Everything ...because ALL passionate feeling ( love, friendship , romance , activism ) was ABSOLUTE ....this is a time capsule and beautiful memory of when EVERYTHING was about LOVE ......Hearing it? Takes me back to that amazing horror and miracle that was that passion....I was in Italy on UD Rome semester.....having left a really painful situ....not 10 k but 8k "miles away" trying to work myself into NOT begging for relevance anymore ....this song? Helped ....yes- it a young romantics sentiment ....I wish she would play it sometimes.....it TOUCHES
I recall playing this song (easy chords) in the early 1990s on my guitar, but have rarely felt the intense emotion as shown in this performance and on the CD, too. *tears*
Still listening to this masterpiece in 2024.
This is the greatest thing the internet has to offer. Period. God I love you Amy
Have you been to Pornhub?!
After working in music since 1974 as a sound guy I have worked with a lot of artists, and NOTHING is more movng then the raw power and passion of this
I love u sound guy
zackly
SoundGuy, thanks for talking right to my broken heart and burnt-up soul, across the years, right when I needed it. You’re my hero.
Yes.
Keeper of my Heart is another powerful song by Indigo Girls.
One of the rawest songs ever made. Just unbelievable emotion.
An understatement... Really good stuff! You couldn't have said it better.
Here I am in 2021 still remembering how much this song influenced me back in the '90s in Indiana. Just brilliant.
Pure passion! God I love her voice, the rasp, the little cracks that add so much character and make her sound so distinctive, and a vibrato that makes you melt. This is REAL music folks!
Thirty + years have not changed what this song makes me feel.
Yes!
How does it make you feel, asking honestly
Omg yes!!!!
From your lips to Yahwehs ears!
@@john-martinno one can tell you what you should feel. You feel it or don’t
This is one of the greatest songs ever written.
💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚
The first time I heard this song I must have listened to it 20 times in a row. It was so perfect and still is. What an amazing song.
"I am intense." You sure are Amy. So incredible!!!
On the real, are there any artists like this left on the planet? these girls were the first CDs that I actually wore out from constant use.
I saw these ladies in 1989 for this tour. Just two INSANELY talented women with acoustic guitars and tons of passion and soul. It doesn't get a whole lot better than this!
you pretty much said it all! The soul in their music is totally INSANE and beyond normal talent!!!
Not to mention a song that, quite simply, is nothing less than PERFECT!
I saw them on this tour too. Yes, two women, two guitars, and a spellbound audience.
It’s been years since I heard this song and it’s still so powerful.
When this woman sings you can feel it from the depth of her soul ringing out her pain and passion. So intense and divine! Blood And Fire. Thank you
you girls got me through 5yrs of foster care, which wasn't easy but thnx too you ladies, I couldn't have made it without your awesome music...thank you so much!!!!!!!
Foster care from 97-02. How did we survive? Who cares. We did. And we are stronger now that we've been through that fire. Love to you, sister!!
Every foster home is different...but must say my life would've been hopeless without it...it was a horrible home, but u are correct we did survive...thank u
HAH! Me too! One of the daughters introduced me.
Amy Blum wow that's a real accolade to the Indigo girls, im glad that you came through and had something to go to for strength and something you could always rely on. Their music has been like sound track to my life and sounds like it has been for you too x
Elle Hansen me as well..foster care...helped to express thoughts and feelings in sensible words and meaning.
Absolutely incredible passion, power, and voice. Emily has probably seen Amy do that song 1000s of times, but even she was sitting there amazed.
I'm in disbelief that Amy criticized this song in their recent documentary on Netflix. It's the epitome of powerful. I guess I'm too intense!
I felt the same way! Selfish? Not at all! It’s honest and vulnerable. ❤
I was lucky enough to actually see/hear Amy play this live I was blown away....
This song calls to the cold steel reality knife of pain, the red hot fire of longing, and the emptiness of grief... It makes your heart yank at your chest, makes you feel the thousand lightbulbs of hope blink in your chest, it transports you to a place where the world is made of, for lack of better words.. Blood and Fire
really THE BEST MOST PROFOUND LOVE song ever
This is absolutely without a doubt my favorite idigo girls song.....speaks to my soul!
"I calling you from 10000 miles away. Won't you whet my fire with your love, babe." God what powerful lyirics.
STOP I AM GONNA CRY
This is such a powerful vocal performance by Amy. It's always been one of my favorite IG songs.
Marsha Rupe it is just beautiful
1990. Crazy that it has been that long!
Saw them in Seattle - summer nights on the pier. 64 yrs old now and still cry when I hear this song. Especially like the end with Emily sitting on the side of stage enraptured like the rest of us.
I've watched this so many times over the years and I don't think I've ever thanked you for sharing it... so thanks very much.
I discovered the Indigo Girls on NPR. Their music is a feast for the senses. Such talent, so unique.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again... An Indigo Girls opera in my lifetime!! Pleeeease!!!
Raw and heartrending song. the performance takes it to a whole new level, makes you feel so much. I love it!
You ladies, and this song, saved my life. Thank you, with all my soul
Loved this song 20 + years ago and love it even more tonight- "...Wet my fire with your Love".... Oh yeah
These two bring me joy.
That song brings back great memories for me. And what a great voice she has live. Incredible. .
" Blood and fire are too much for this restless heart to hold " makes me want to cry
I've lost count of the times I've seen her perform, yet the intensity of her performance here still blows my mind. I've seen nothing else like it. The emotion - I can STILL hear it/see it/feel it pouring out of her every time I watch it. Wow. Just wow. Wish I had been there.
I first wanted to learn to play acoustic after seeing Indigo Girls. I love all of their music, but the passion Amy conveys when she sings won me over.
POWERFUL!!!! Ahhhh all the feels here in 2024
Just extrodinary music --- none other like it --- saw them in Minneapolis - I cried. Met them both. I 'll never forget and I will listen to them - the lyrics resonate with my soul --- they'll be in my life for all time.
These girls have had the best harmony &. Lyrics ❤
i literally could not have made it this far in life without this.
much gratitude, amy & emily
It's been years since I've listened to the Indigo Girls, and the wisdom that age has brought me has only even further deepened the meaning of their music to me. What powerful souls! Thank you for sharing!
all i can say is i love you....and thank you for being there through all my years of growth and pain and loss and love and joy. I have loved you for years and will continue to spread your song

so great...i cannot even describe. I'm mildly upset that the passion and brilliance of this song has gone unrecognicnized as long as it has. Ugh.....whatever, ty, Amy for getting me thru the 90's ......
I am in love with Amy Ray.
Aren’t we all?! 😍
Lmfao.....
I saw the Indigo Girls in 1978 in Atlanta before they became famous. It was in a small restaurant/bar. They were amazing then as they still are.
I can still see myself in 1990, playing this album in my little San Francisco apartment when I was in my 20s. What wonderful times. All these years later, my life has changed so much, but these songs are still so important.
Brings tears every time.
so much soul to the bone...
♡
I had loved the Indigo Girls for years! This song always takes my breath away.
Amy is so expressive, beautiful, talented, confident, important ...... just incredible.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this song.... the lyrics, the performance. Man, can't get any better than that.... Just incredible.
The girls are amazing
Amy- tenor,.her songs- dark...heavy and raw
Emily- soprano- her songs- gentle folky melodic.
you said it all Music makes my world go around and nature keeps me grounded
That's awesome, Robbie. That's what I'm all about, too. Nature and music - and they are one.
lost in thought, lost in love, makes my heart ache...beautiful
tears my heart out every time
As a guitar player, I grew up on KISS, Van Halen, Ozzy, as well as Chicago, CS&N, The Grateful Dead, and eventually a healthy diet of Frank Zappa. At the risk of sounding corny, these two girls and their two guitars have touched me more than probably all of the other music I've ever listened to combined.
i heard this song for the first time the other day aaron lewis was covering this this is one of the most soulfull songs i have ever heard
Pure emotion...Amy Ray can make you cry.
Something magic was happening here! Even Emily noticed! Amy bared her soul right there on stage!
Wow 🤩 that’s awesome 🤩 beautiful soul
The most amazing song I've ever hear live.
This song...damn...doesn't get any better
jo ratner The words....wow
What an incredible performance. LOVED IT!
best video on the whole damn website. thanks
Amy you are intense, I love ya! *smooch* The pub of love is no longer, sad state of Nashville. Glad I was there before all the new stuff.
You can feel this powerful song❤
Best female vocalist ever!
Something about the raw emotion and power of this as well as the original, reaches deep within me and squeezes my soul.... I cannot listen to it without tears....

Indigo Girls simply speak to a deeper part of humanity every time they perform.
exactly how I feel today 27th October 2020 - when love leaves and leaves you emotionally drained.
Unspeakably beautiful and cathartic. Still.
Such purity and grace.
Love Amy Ray and Love this song!!
Indigo Girls are forever amazing! I just love this song! Amy Ray has such an incredible, passionate, raspy voice....only comparable to Melissa Etheridge....I am always gonna be their most favorite fan!!!
Must argue with that, I love them to death
I send love to you on your journey of healing
I still wish they'd work together.
Taii Raaven Most argue with that how?
why does this seem to be the only recording of them singing this song live. imo, its their best work. 😢 i love them so much.
It was crushing to hear her call it selfish. I hope she knows we don’t sense that to be true. 💔
This is absolutely amazing. How many years ago was this? Surely a couple of decades ago, and it hasn't been improved upon. Wow.
I recall playing this song (easy chords) in the early 1990s on my guitar, but have rarely felt the intense emotion as shown in this performance and on the CD, too. *tears*
Amy has an amazing voice!
My favorite song from these girls...hands down.
was, is and will always stay one of my most favourite songs ever that describes my avaerage feelings best.
Raw artistic energy. Awesome performance.
Can't wait to see her tonight, I hope she plays this song!
so damn good
I absolutely love this
What a great voice!
