Awesome footage. My father opened the Desert Inn with the likes of Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy. He was in a trio, that was the house band in the Lady Luck Lounge for eight years.
Rare and historical, you should send a copy of this to the Las Vegas Council, they might wish to Archive it, it really is a rare document. All those forgotten buildings and resorts, living again in this production, Suave!!!
@MrMemories You do know that American car models have (and still are) usually released in September of the previous year? Since there are no Christmas lights... I'm guessing this was shot in October 1959.
Hey I liked the music, how did you switch this out? I haven't watched this for a bit but had it in my favorites, all of a sudden the "Something to do" is gone? Hey?
Could you please tell what the name of the song is? I searched on all the lyrics I could understand and Google came back with zip! Somebody earlier claimed it was a song by Depeche Mode, but the lyrics don't match...must be pretty obscure if Google can't find it. Of course I may have Goofle-d...Thanks...wonderful, nostalgic images from when Vegas wasn't self-conscious about being kitschy...they're obviously "upscale" now (roll eyes...)
EVERYTHING in Vegas was mob-run in those days. The Thunderbird became the Silverbird, which became the El Rancho (NOT the vintage El Rancho, which was across the street till it burned down), which was blown up in 2000. That's what we do to our history - we blow it up.
Still love your soundtrack - especially with Dunes Sultan.
FANTASTIC clip!! THANK YOU for preserving it into the TH-cam era!
Amazing documentation. I love when family vacations include such fine filming of the surroundings; and not just *family*. 5 stars!!
FABulous video! I've lived in LV since 1969 - love it here and love coming across vintage film on this great town!
This is a great video. Thanks for re-posting it. It works well with this song too.
Excellent.
Great presentation. Thanks for putting this together.
Great archive.

This is awesome!
thanks for this. just got back from Vegas!
the hotel signs were taller than the hotels themselves back then - brilliant! How things have changed.
great footage !
I was born and raised in Vegas. I haven't even see some of these places before. It is really different from the Vegas I know.
Love the film. May I ask how you transferred it to video without the flickers? It looks great, and it color!!! Thanks.

Joey and sometimes Peter, too!
What is the name of this song?
George GOBEL?.. I Loved George Gobel.
Anyway... you should RE-DO this video... a lot of technology in the, nearly, 4 years since you uploded this GEM!
depeche mode/ something to do.
SHOULDVE USED BETTER NARRATIVE MUSIC FOR THE TIME THESE GREAT MOVIES WERE TAKEN..:)
