When we getting a breakdown for First rates?
Corvettes are to me the ideal ship to captain in fantasy stories irregardless of tech level. Large enough to be independent, small enough to join fleet actions and not be a primary target. Enough crew to have grand adventures, not so many that they can’t all get at least one character arc. Enough firepower that they can remove those dastardly pirates, not enough firepower that they can do everything alone and will often have opportunity to call for reinforcements which offers more story opportunities. It’s basically the Just Right ship for protagonist crews to all have a role to fill with one or two “expendable” away parties that can join in on more important missions.
Me too mate , More speed , just enough firepower , specialization modularity , low cost , low crew , heroic missions , A minimum cruiser\frigates capabilities but with near starfighter philosophy
And i rough designed a upsized CR90 design based corvette , with external Starfighters , heavy ordnance , single anti capital spinal mount artillery long rangle alpha low reload or close range fast reload , medium ion cannons ,many light anti fighter turrets , and cargo bay and shuttle bay , do it all light capital support ship , frontline capable , special ops modifiable , escort , picket , recon , ground support , bombing , all in one basic package
12 gunships \assault shuttles
12 x wings internal
12 A wings docking ring sup strctr around engine
12 tie series external rack
Depending on your setting and size of your corvettes, they might be atmosphere capable too. And you can have a younger commander.
@@domusavires19 umm yes , as the basic small multiple main line mass produced Warships , my Battle Corvettes will Enter Atmosphere, and Maybe a bit of Nubian engineering on the CR90 design
@@domusavires19 hopefully a younger Female commander with lots of guts and need to prove yet catious and tactical , less sex energy but maybe high with the right one
Hmm, that fits Age of Sail and Age of Iron corvettes, but not modern ones. Modern ones are typically limited to coastal operations/point to point ocean escort due to their short range (in Sc-Fi think intra/assisted inter system) only and/or low speed and/or limited operational capabilities and/or limited utility. All of which stem from their small size forcing severe sacrifices to one thing or another (which to an extent also applies to AoS vette's, they weren't an overly popular vessel type a reason. AoI vette'swhere typically pretty seaworthy and long range, but where usually very slow, even for the time, while also being lightly armed and armoured for the time. Again, not an overly popular vessel type). Most modern corvettes are thus dedicated to a single task, with little use outside of it (ex: an anti submarine corvette would not possess any or very little anti-surface/air capabilities, likely only just enough to maybe defend itself from missiles/small motorboats). A small to midsized Age of Sail/modern frigate (or destroyer, the lines between the two are very blurred) is more what you are thinking. Large enough to be reasonably muti-role and go on extended independent cruises, small enough to be constantly out-classed and expendable.
I’m a simple man. I see Sojourn ship breakdowns, I press like.
The release date announcement has the whole Discord foaming at the mouth, including me.
Me too!
Get hype!
My dad instilled in me a love of small ships. He was a sailor, served in the USCG through Korea and Vietnam, and almost got called back during the First Gulf War. He was a "mustang", and bust his ass every step of the way to LCDR. Not bad for a high school drop out born in '31.
He was always eager to see the world, learn new things, and be an absolutely stubborn bastard all the while. Never backing down, cutting through BS, and doing his best to keep the ship afloat. He volunteered for everything, including excursions with PBRs a few times.
To him small ships did the work, had tighter crews, and never really got any recognition for it. When they did, however, it was usually astounding feats of absolutely insanity or dogged determination.
Man I miss him, miss the stories. He would have loved the Sojourns nautical references and homages so damn much.
I love that older ships shown here have obvious radiators.
That means modern ones have some sort of compact radiator system. I wonder what it is, exactly.
The cut section in the middle of this covertte and the part near the centrifuge hab of the Confiance and Tripathia are where the newer ships house their radiators
They’re probably just simply more efficient than older ones, perhaps the newer vessels have large internal heat sinks, or they just generate less waste heat.
The CDF's design conventions are brilliant. It works perfect for everything they make, and that diagonal, sloped hull shape is one I'd recognize anywhere.
It's good that despite being a ship for Commanders and not Post Captains, it is none the less large enough to have many facilities and crew that are required by larger vessels and such is a good ship for up and coming officers. That and it's all rounder profile as a ship with speed, firepower and armour. A good ship design that has now jumped to the top of my favourite overall sci fi ship designs. Excellent work folks. ❤
The perfect kind of command for an officer who might just need a bit of extra seasoning before an XO's slot on a major unit, or on the short list for a frigate.
Or, for veteran aggressive commanders who can squeeze every last gram of performance out of their spaceframe, while keenly aware of its limitations.
What a cool ship this one
The thing I love the most about the sojourns ship designs is that not every ship has every type of weapon system. Instead, each vessel is equipped with the weapon systems that make the most sense for the specific role the ship fulfills.
Amongst a sea (ha ha) of incredible art on this channel, this episode is a standout. The Age of Sail corvette shot is gorgeous, and the radiators on those Halpern’s War-era ships 🤤
‘A master and commander’
Ah I see what you did there. 😎
Anakin and Ahsoka ? Or a Soujorn reference
Anakin and Ahsoka? Or some Soujorn reference
A movie reference by that name
Whilst 'Master and Commander' is the name of a whole series of novels, it comes from historical sources. A Master and Commander is practically just a commander, iirc it's merely the origin of the term "commander" when it comes to sea-going vessels, and they're junior to captains, usually commanding smaller ships. In the Sojourn, Masters and Commanders are the highest rank not able to command a post ship, like a Frigate or Ship of the Line
Well it is inspired by the same time period of the movie
Looks like a ship that can hold its own in a scrap
I were a marketer for this ship I be saying.... "Fast... Lightweight... reliable and lethal.... the protectress class corvette"
Very fast low cost simple dagger of a corvette , the Protectress class
Also include things like low operation and maintenance cost and versatility. The mission profile of a frigate, at a fraction of the cost.
New favorite ship type unlocked!
Well done.
I’ll take 3.
I really like this design! All of the ships follow the same concept but they’re all unique in their own way
New season in August? YEEEEESS.
Aw yes season 2 is just over 2 months away!
Looks like the Huntress class has some competition...
This is likely the Huntress's direct ancestor
Not really, because the Huntress-class is technically a failed design.
@@jonathanhirst6997 I wouldn't call it failed. It's more of "discontinued without a product" solely because of the cost factor combined with the lack of resources amidst the famine. Add to that the idea that gates existed and proved to be a better use of drift than for simple artificial gravity plates.
I think the Huntress is a good deal smaller? Perhaps I'm misremembering.
@@absalomdraconis149m and 98m so its quite a difference in size
When we likely to get a ship breakdown for the Temperantia class?
I was hoping the next breakdown would be the union frigate but this is still cool
Also YES WE FINALLY HAVE A RELEASE DATE FOR SEASON 2
I'm betting the Alessiah class is next for a ship breakdown video for sure.
Need to see a brig breakdown
I would like to see a brig breakdown video as well. So far there are 2 different classes listed in the wiki. Well technically 3 but they list the brigantine and the brig as two different ship types.
Aw YES!!
Edit: Is there gonna be a breakdown on these ships that are either side of the corvette? 5:58
Given the rate that we get ship breakdown videos I imagine that we wont see any on the Matthew Cormier-class Brig anytime soon
Wow! 10th of august 2024. That is my 18th birthday. That’s gonna be one hell of bday present.😂
I came here to learn about a corvette, and I got jumped by a release date.
Did a review of an Indria outrider build on my channel and its on track to be the best vid I've done. Hope someone builds this neet corvette.
P.s. thank you Daniel's and everyone at space dock for giving us syfy junkies an original concept in an age of remakes and reboots.
I was really waiting for a video about this corvette.
Been waiting this for a while now.
Season 2 drops on my birthday!!!
Nice ship, gives me Nexus vibes.
I bought the first book via Audible . Loved it
that was really good, but are there any news on when we are getting such a breakdown for ships like the Temperantia class or better yet, the Arashi-Sakara?
My bet is on the Allesiah-Class next, then the Temperentia, possibly some other ships in between, and then the Tetrarch and the Arashi-Sakara.
Hope they mix it up instead. Also, Tetrarch?
@@manosbaroulakis9446 The First-Rate ship of the line that we haven’t seen yet
AWESOME!
AUGEST?!?!?!? LETS F***ING GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
🚀 So cool! 🚀
I really want a game of this setting
What about a shipbreakdown on the S36 Star dancer, I like the fighters realism and design
You can still watch the original design concept video for the Stardancer over on spacedock from when Daniel first started working on the Sojourn. But yeah a new breakdown video of the Stardancer fighterboat would be a lot of fun especially if they showed it in combat flight against Advari fliers.
@@ImNtDead thank you and yes that what i was thinking
AUGUST 10TH?!?!?
CORVETTE ! 🎉💖🦚🌸🫀❤️🔥🥳
I think we need more ships form the other factions. Most of the ship info comes from only the Centran Defense Force
I would be willing to bet that the Alessiah Class Fast Frigate will be the next breakdown video.
@@ImNtDead What faction is the Alessiah Class Fast Frigate from?
@@andrewnelson4148 Frontier Union Militia. I only figured that it's next because of how many animated shorts we've seen of it.
Ive not steeped myself in the sojourn so maybe this is a silly question.
What are all those white pods/pylons along the ship? Seems like a lot of radar/sensors if that is what they are.
That would actually be a good assumption. Despite having a visual dictionary and a number of other illustrations there is no visual breakdown to identify all components on the CDF ships. And their is only one cross section at the moment and that is of the Guinevere which does not have such parts. However since they do look like the radar tracking pods that we see on top of Phalanx CWIS I would assume that is exactly what they are. As to why there are so many I would argue thats for redundancy.
Crazy that the Union's Alessiah Class was actually LESS well armed than these corvettes. Just goes to show they really had their work cut out for them....
They are on the same level of armament wise tho, 4 main guns and 8 pdcs each, tho the corvette win on the better main guns while the frigate seems to have more pdcs spray (each of their pdcs have 8 barrels instead of 2)
I think the Alessiah class is just an enlarged and combined versions of the florencia and indria class outriders, would fit the “fast frigate” designation
My tism brain when the ship length is 1 meter off from being an even number: 😵💫
The video Never Said whether or not this has some form of centrifuge gravity or if everybody's just floating the whole time
Always a pleasure to see more ships breakdown, and I don't even interested in Sojourn.
Where is the conversion mod for Nexus Jupiter incident for this drama? Looks awesome
2:53 to 2:59 rear top left side turret was frea'king out in terms of animation what happened their? anyone else saw that?
Nope, I've watched a couple times and cant see it. I do see the RCS thrusters firing and theres a shimmer on the hull that disrupts the shodows around the turrets; but thats all I see
Did Hawker utilize corvettes in her commodore capabilities? I'd watch that vid.
Well I wish someone would made The Sojourn mod for Sins of the Solar Empire.
Question: is there a reason the engine nozzles are always shown as exposed on various Sojourn ships vs. being "built in" with the surrounding hull plates? Or built in a way that from directly ahead or directly astern they would protected? Given the actual physics of space and the in universe lore regarding movement and combat, it would seem prudent to keep your "go places" equipment protected.
The the outer bell shape of drive nozzles are designed to flex and expand so they can't be constricted by armor plating or housed internally with out taking up extra space. Plus any near by materials would then be absorbing excess heat. Besides they mostly can be easily repaired and or replaced due to the constant wear and tear they would go through from all that heat so no need to waste resources on armor to protect an area that doesn't really need it.
@@ImNtDead I was not referring to an armored or sub-surface installation of said nozzles. I realize I used the term "built-in" and that was confusing. I was referring to non-liner layout, that would place ship "stuff" between the nozzles (that would be mounted so as not to interfere with said stuff) and the ends of the ship. This design has a hour-glass inset. With some modification, the nozzles could be placed in a insert, with say 5d of angle from centerline and still function properly. The exhaust plume would be pointed slightly away from the end of the ship (and the sides). This is space, not inside an atmosphere, so non-linear thrust would be less of a balance issue. This would be especially important on a ship design where the "front toward enemy" would also nominal attack angle. In a non-linear thrust design, where the braking plumes are exiting at an angle and from more the center of the ship, that leaves the front (the part facing the enemy) available for mounting weapons, especially linear firing weapons.
What the hell are you talking about?
@@joshuarebennack68 Sure you could do that but that also complicates the design. It would mean that on either end of a ship there would have to be 4 or more drive thrusters. Which would take up more space, be less efficient, require a higher level of maintenance while sacrificing acceleration and top speed. Sure you gain some extra protection; but its not really a whole for what you would be sacrificing.
Was this the class of ship that Cass was commanding when she had the Blue-on-Blue after Atamara?
Cass was already a Post-Captain by that point, so her command at Atamara would have been either a Frigate or a Ship of the Line.
Well I doubt she captained a ship of the line so she most likely was commanding a Confiance Class Frigate or possibly the more unknown Aquilon Class Post Ship.
@@ImNtDead What makes you say that? Cass was the daughter of the Commander-In-Chief of the CDF, and on the fast track for high command. While I am not saying that she didn't have a Frigate as her command, as it would have suited her tactical style, it's also not impossible for her to have commanded a Ship of the Line.
@@LordCommander-ui2fw well I did not say it was impossible as I very well could be wrong. She may have accelerated in her career due to her dedication to the service in vain attempt to please her father; but it did not gain her any special favors which she mentioned herself. Plus her father and other high ranking individuals like him believed that it was people's actions that should get them promoted not because of who they were or knew. It's mostly just assumption but that's what I believe.
@@ImNtDead Valid point on that front; after all, Admiral Farren promoted Ariana Hawker for her skill and her character, not her social pedigree. And considering the exacting standards he set for her education, I don't see him doing special favors for Cass, either. However, I would like to point out that Commodore Hadleigh implied that Darius, despite his high rank was something of an outlier in the Admiralty and that most of the command staff were "Desk Admirals and Landed Gentry." That may very well have changed over the course of the Frontier War by the time Cass became a Post-Captain, of course, but I did want to point that out. And then there's what happened to the Acrisius; while there may have been more reasons to it besides familial ties, Darrius Farren did help to cover up his daughter's friendly-fire incident, there is no denying that.
What does a gun-crew do on a spaceship like this? As hard-sci-fi as this seems, I thought all of that would be automated and controlled by a few people in the command bridge or something like that.
Clear jams/malfunctions, ensure ammo feed from the deep magazine to the ready magazine, on-the-fly repairs if something breaks during an engagement, and aim and fire the gun in local control if the main fire control links fail for some reason, probably.
Wait, with Marines on board, does it get involved in boarding actions or does the ship somehow deploy them on battlefields?
There is only 15 marines so they are most likely just a security detail but could take part in boarding actions if need be.
Considering its role as an anti-piracy vessel, those marines are likely for boarding actions.
What game is this?
Not a game but animation for an Audio Drama
Not much point in having Marines onboard if you don't have some type of landing craft so they can be deployed to board & inspect other ships. They can't all be onboard just to protect the commanders booze.
Who else will listen to Season 1 before Season 2 is released?
10" guns are pretty big for a corvette. ~150 meters isn't that big.... I feel like 4-5" main guns, and 2-2.5" secondaries may have been a superior 'realistic' choice. Bump up both ammo capacity, and fire rate with smaller, higher velocity, faster loading munition, and puts less stress on the firing mechanism with far reduced mass when compared to 10".
What kind of sci fi doesn't have energy weapons ??!! Where's the plasma or ion weapons ? No phasers or photon / quatum torpedos or hell bore weapons ??!! lol
