    Some more info on 256-wide aspect ratio tweaking is in the main post: www.retrorgb.com/ossc-basics-intermediate-use.html
    I didn't include it here, because I didn't want to confuse anyone...and because 1080p5x won't work on everyone's displays. It's an awesome trick and worth reading about if you decide to use the custom profiles.

      Damn no profiles for the PS2 :(
      The other problem I have is the OSSC is displaying a black screen only (I've got sound). So no image, using an RGB scart adapter (so the tulip cables into the scart adapter).
      What can I do, I am out of ideas.

    Just wanted to thank you for this vid. I've had the OSSC for over a year but you covered some of my knowledge gaps and motivated me to grab an empty sd to update firmware and image the FBX settings on it. I was still adding some manually and it was such a pain. I think your vid will result in me using this device more often, and I'll point people with general questions about the device to watch too.

  • @H6rdc0re
    @H6rdc0re 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey Bob. Perhaps you didn’t know but the OSSC supports 1600x1200/1920x1200 output for Line5X. This means you’ll get fullscreen support without cropping on a display if it supports higher than 1920x1080 resolutions. With optimized timings dialed it this gives a razor sharp image. I love to combine it with 100% normal scanlines. Looks insane on 240p content on my old LG C6 OLED. You do have to increase the backlight or OLED light on your display. Running these settings on my Sony W900 gives the best of both worlds. CRT motion with integer scaling.

    • @RetroRGB
      @RetroRGB  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, those are all cool features. This was supposed to be a beginner video though, so I didn't want to focus on anything that might be confusing to newcomers though. Also, I usually really like the cropping of 1080p 5x :)

    Hey there, interested in getting into the OSSC but was wondering whether it's possible to add black bars to the top and bottom of the screen so games are pixel perfect on 1080p displays. I want to be able to play all my consoles at integer scales only and my monitor tends to fill the image out vertically no matter what. I'm totally fine with the image being smaller and in the middle of the display so long as it's integer if that makes sense. Is that something the OSSC does / can do??

    • @RetroRGB

    I've had the OSSC for about a week now and honestly love creating optimal timings (I use PAL hardware so their aren't already purpose built profiles out there). It's only a pain for the first day or so of trying to get your head round the concepts and then it's fairly easy to feel around and try different things.
    I don't have anything that can run test patterns but one thing I've found that helps get the h.samplerate and phase set is cranking the sharpness up on my monitor and to enable it's 'Super Resolution' (basically very strong sharpening). I then turn off the two LPFs in 'Video in proc' and 'sync opt.' This makes the noise very apparent and pretty easy to dial in to a clear image.

    Thanks for this, it clarified something I didn't understand. I thought profiles that weren't customized were just considered blank, not generic, so I've totally avoided generic (unknowingly) up until now. I've always worked off of another profile when adjusting. I've been trying to tweak settings to get a good PS2 image, and FBX had said generic is the way to go. Now I actually know what that means and am excited to give it another go. I stuck with my Framemeister for PS2 as there aren't a ton of resolution switches on PS2 and it worked well.

My TV is a 1080p compatible TV I dont understand why line 3x which should be 720 never shows up. I also don't see any deonterlacong settings, the only setting that comes up is the LPF and what line multiplier I want to use

    How do you get pictures from a Super famicom NTSC Jap ? I see well with ossc 1.6 and avermedia plus2, but I register a black screen. Are you using an add-in card between the SFC and ossc ?
    If I use a SNES PAL I can see well and I can record without problems.
    Do you know the SFC has an RGB video signal with Macrovision ?? or nuisance signal? What prevents registration?
    Thanks for your valuable videos.

    • @RetroRGB
      @RetroRGB  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      SFC + OSSC works fine. Does your capture card accept both NTSC and PAL signals? Also, have you tested the SFC on other displays or scalers? Maybe try setting the output resolution to 2x (480p) just to test?

    • @RetroGamesMania
      @RetroGamesMania 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RetroRGB I have done several tests, but I read that super famicom, has a nervous sync and therefore they recommend installing a card in it, which stabilizes the synchronism signal. This card is called De Jitter . For now I’ll just try to capture it in another way, switching to analog with a FireWire Canopus, but it’s just a temporary solution .

  • @tehFoxx0rz
    @tehFoxx0rz 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey, so, with 256 mode, you say the aspect ratio can't be changed. But, there's the "256x240 aspect" option under Output Opt., which I've been setting to 4:3, rather than 8:7, and then it looks much more correct, and not just "square" like your example.
    Is this somehow different to what you're talking about? I wouldn't want to presume you missed an option, but it seemed like a strange omission as my own experiences go.

    • @lschannel8
      @lschannel8 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Likewise I'd like clarification on this. I set my line 4x optimized aspect ratio to 4:3 vs 8:7 for 256 Genesis games and it seems fine

    • @RetroRGB
      @RetroRGB  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You're correct, however the aspect ratio only looks correct in 4x and 5x modes and even then it's still a hair too wide. I didn't discuss it in the video since I didn't want to confuse things, but yeah, give this a try.

    • @tehFoxx0rz
      @tehFoxx0rz 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RetroRGB Certainly for just playing, it can be a preference thing for sure; I recognise that the 4:3 setting might not be completely accurate, but yeah myself at least I find it closer, or at least a worthwhile compromise to still get those crisp pixels. Also, as a PAL gamer, our 256-wide games were squished wider anyway, so perhaps it looks less off to me than to you, even in 5x mode haha.
      Makes sense you didn't want to confuse things, though. Thanks for the great and clear video once again.

      @RetroRGB  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      At a basic level, there is no difference. My suggestion is usually this: Do you have MANY consoles that only output analog video that you want to use on a flat-panel?: Get a scaler.
      Do you only have one or two? And if so, are there good HDMI mods available? If yes to both, do that, as it's cheaper and easier overall.
      So, for me, it's more of an overall, big picture issue.

    I'm having problems with my 1.6 OSSC, I did the firmware update and have succesfully created profiles for my SNES and Wii, but I can only get a black and white output. I'm using RCA output for both consoles, I have my yellow cable plugged on the green input on the back of the OSSC and the white and red cables connected to a 3.5mm jack converter.... Any idea on why it's only outputting black and white?.... And how I may get color?

    I wish i understood it all. I have a Pal PS2 @576i i can used bob deinterlacing on it to convert it to 576p? Using freemcboot i can use the OPL loader and set most games to play in 576p..Whilst using component cables which scenario gives me the better picture? I don't think my TV handles signals between 720 and 1080p. If I set my consoles to 480i and line triple does that give me a 720p signal..ideally i want the 6th generation consoles looking their best on a flat panel . can the OSSC do this for me better than using the software mods i have on me Wii, PS2 and Xbox. Cheers

    Where can I find the best settings for the PS2? I only found a single video on TH-cam teaching it, but I didn't really like the result, I wanted to test other options

    • @RetroRGB
      @RetroRGB  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the generic setting might be best. The reason is PS2 is mostly 480i and the OSSC only has one deinterlacing option. If you want better deinterlacing, look into the GBS-Control and RetroTINK 5x - I have detailed videos for both on this channel.

    Hi, Using a SNES with OSSC. If my 4k flat panel tv frequently looses signal and comes back again by it self, does it mean that the TV isn't compatible with OSSC? Or can it be tweaked through the settings? Thanks

    • @RetroRGB
      @RetroRGB  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a common issue. I'd suggest changing the output resolution to 2x, then 3x, then 4x, etc, to see which works best. SOME TV's don't work with SNES in any output setting, but those are pretty rare...most work at least in 2x mode.

    Congratulations on the video. I wanted to ask you if you tried to connect a Raspberry using RGBPI os4 , because ossc returns me no sync . So I was wondering if I should create a special profile, and what values I need to know to understand how to properly hook the RGB signal, which comes out of the euro scart rgb socket of the RGBPI operating system installed on a Raspberry pi 4.

      @@RetroRGB Too bad, for now I have been able to hear the audio of RGBPI os4 by switching from ossc, after updating the firmware to version 0.90. The video still doesn’t. I found the timing configuration file and now I have to figure out if the parameters found on the ossc configurator are the same as those found in the timing.dat file inside RGBPI os4.
      Your video was enlightening and now I want to try and see if I can make it work. Because ossc works for me with everything without doing anything, but from what little I’ve seen there are so many parameters to change.

    I only really find Generic 4:3 useful for Playstation, as you stated, but the other scenario I tend to prefer it is with model 1 Genesis -- it masks some of the vertical lines if re-capping didn't fix the issue.

      I keep my TV at “auto”…but if you have to chose, match the OSSC’s output. So if it’s outputting 1080p, set your TV to 16:9, the the OSSC is adding the black bars to the sides for proper aspect ratio.
