  • Golf putter weight is one of the most important aspects of golf putter fitting. As golf club technology has advanced, many different theories and practices have emerged in terms of golf putter weight. If you struggle on the greens, perhaps an adjustment to your golf putter weight will help you make more putts.
In this video, 2nd Swing's Michael Geiger and master club fitter Larry Bobka discuss the ins and outs of golf putter weight, and some of the reasons why using a putter with the right weight is key to making putts.

“It’s going to balance higher” proceeds to balance it at the same point

I tested putter weight heavily last year and found I like to be in the 370/375 head weight. I tested from 340g up to 385g. It helped my lag putting most once I found my perfect weight. I like to take the club back further and let it fall through which is why the heavier weight worked for me.

Been testing putter weight for awhile now, I play on pretty slow green and oddly enough a lighter putter around 350g head weight gives me the best control on the greens, once I go heavier I loose touch and distance control gets worse.

Heavier putters are better for FAST Greens because the weight will slow Stroke Speed.
Your lighter putter helps you develop a "faster" Stroke Speed that you need on slower Greens.

The gentleman original poster is exactly correct the lighter the head weight the better your distance control will be which is what's most important on a fast green

@@BuffaloNickel9 "the gentleman original poster" spoke of *playing on slower Greens with a lighter Putter.*
As for Tiger, Personal preference doesn't contradict Physics. A heavier Putter requires More Force from the Player to achieve a Given Swing Speed than with a lighter Putter. therefore will typically have a slower Swing Speed all other things being equal.
      D2 isn't necessarily a light Putter.
As for the famous 326 gram Head Weight, the Typical Scotty 35 inch Putter Head of TW's style and vintage weighed 330 Grams. TW is longer at 35.25 inches
A US Nickel weighs 5 Grams, a Dime weighs less than 3 Grams.
And Sorry to burst your bubble, at times TW had a Practice of Placing Lead Tape in the cavity behind the Face.

The stroke lab concept is revolutionary. I Currently have a LAB DF 2.1 at 32 inches, it’s swing weight is E7 but weirdly it doesn’t feel that heavy probably because it’s lie angle Balanced. Swing weight of putters is crucial too. D6-D7 is ideal for 35 inch putters and decreases as it gets shorter, 32 in should be about C9-D1
Titleist has a good chart with all the correct swing weights based on putter length

The secret to putter weight is get a putter you like and use it, get use to it, and don’t change putters.

I found a heavier feel putter is best for my tempo, plus I feel like the putter is doing more of the work as designed. And most putters I pick up feel very light so I try to find ones that a just a little heavier or I can add weights.

Put a small round magnet in the middle of the back of the old Ping putter. Adjust - shift - magnet weight more to the toe or heel as needed to compensate for your stroke type. And, surprise! You just saved $300.
