I’ve owned Scottys my entire life. Another fool-proof thing to check is the Titleist manufacturer sticker on the shaft. Very hard thing for counterfeiters to fake. I personally won’t buy one without a sticker

I really want to add a Scotty to my bag someday, I started looking into the "pre-owned" market and there are a lot of putters that just do not look right, so when I am ready to add a new Scotty to my set, I got to buy it directly from an authorized Scotty Cameron and not risk a fake.
Great video Matt, counterfeit clubs are a big market right now, thank you for trying and help the average golfer understand and be able to spot a fake club.

Honestly, it's a solid piece of metal. So long as it's quality metal, how far off in performance can it possibly be?

    • @golfmaniac007

Inconsistent feel. Scotty feels precise. Alignment will be off most likely cuz u know the counterfeiter is not measuring and swing weighting and also loft.

Stainless steel vs chunk of metal, it’s horribly inconsistent and the ball bounces off the face. It’s a terrible feel, there’s a reason SC are $500+

About 12 years ago I unknowingly bought a fake Scotty off ebay. Didn't realize until about 5 years after I bought it when I went to register the serial number and it didn't show up. Have to admit they did a good job with the details on my fake. Paint looked good, had the proper sticker and an engraved serial number. Paid $200 for a $20 fake.

I Totally agree Matt , personally I don’t like the SC putters as I think they are heavy “well certainly the blade type I owned hence the reason most people put Superstroke counter weight grips on” but for the vast majority supposing they 4 putted every green with a SC that’s acceptable as long as they have the SC cover sticking out their bag that’s all that matters.

I think it was Bruce Lietzke back in the 60's who bought a $5 used putter in the pro shop of the course the PGA tournament was being played at that week. He won. He went on to win a lot with that putter. Corey Pavin used a Bullseye Putter his entire career. I think they were $30 or less brand new. The question is...who gives a flying fu*k about who made what putter? Personally, I'd take a fake anything that worked for me over the most expensive putter ever made that didn't work for me. I own 22 Scotty Camerons. I bought them as an investment 20 years ago hoping morons would pay through the nose someday. I don't use any of them because frankly, they aren't any better than most other putters. Having all those cartoons and stampings on a putter is immature...even childish. If you want to look like a fool on the golf course, wear Loudmouth Pants a la John Daly. The sad truth about most Scotty Cameron putters is they have a tiny sweet spot. If you're a touring pro, you can find that sweet spot often. Many of the pros now use mallet putters with heads that are all SWEET SPOTS. A Newport head is simply a Ping Anser. It's a shape that has been used for 60 years. If you're that shallow and really care about the grip letter spacing, the shaft band, the cartoons on the metal head then by all means save your money and buy that Scotty masterpiece. If it helps you shoot better scores, it's worth whatever you paid for it. Just don't forget, it's really nothing special except in your own mind.

Saw you moved to GA, I actually relocated from TN as a young man but that's another story. I actually purchased a Scotty Cameron after I saw this review. Best putter I've ever had. My old putter was a Odyssey White Hot #6, which I liked, but once I picked up the Scotty, I felt a very noticeable difference. Once I re-griped it with a Winn Pro 1.60, I drained 3ea 30 footers, and had convenience standing over 12 footers all day.

As always, good content. On the "Scotty" subject and this test, my thoughts would be like this.
No way am I ever spending $300 or more on a putter. Ever. Unless you just have cash to burn, it's an elitist thing I guess. Second, if the head is loose and someone repaired it, would it not have felt and performed much better? Third, all those minute details that you have a great eye for finding really don't stand out like a blinking red light to me. At the end of it, if you fixed the head, the craftsmanship was so close that it takes a trained eye to see, and you're paying $150 instead of $400 - $1200, is the performance and feel close enough?

The fake is rounded below while the real is sharp in the angel. 2nd, the line and fit around the insert in the front, the fake is square in the bottom while the real is rounded. the last thing is to look at the weights how the fit. Who cares lol. The best putter has already been made a LONG time ago. You really can’t improve on perfection, but you can use misleading marketing to sell products. The Odyssey 2 ball white hot OG is the best putter hands down. Ever tried one? If not, don’t comment lol.
For perspective, professional jewelers can’t tell a $200 good fake Rolex from a $20,000 Rolex without looking at the internal movement gears under a magnifying glass. Logic would then suggest that if you pay $1,200 for that putter you are dim witted to say the least, and people who see you with it are laughing at you.

clearly its the custom yellow club because ... a) no one knows exactly what a custom club is supposed to look like so you can't compare it to someone elses at your local clubhouse. b) trying to fake a club that you can buy at any local golf shop is much more likely to be called out and its far less valuable, so c) if i am taking the time and effort to fake a putter i am obviously going to get as much value as possible from my sork so clearly it is the yellow club.

You won’t go wrong with the fakes, unless you like your grips firm. The fakes are a bit on the squishy side. Still firm enough to maintain their form when making a short to medium length putt, but you’ll definitely feel the difference on long putts, specially if you putt with your index fingers out like I do. But if you hold the putter like you grip your other clubs, it shouldn’t be an issue.

The price you pay says it all in regards to golf equipment. Those that buy fake products should not even bother with a scorecard in my book.

Why should it bother you so much what other people put in their bag? Unless it’s non-conforming to the Rules, should it really matter how other people choose to spend their money?

i love your vids but as far as putters go its all about the player, if you can read the greens then surely any putter will do, wont it? and what makes a scotty so expensive?

1200 for a putter? Life is good if you drop that on a putter. I can't see why that would be needed. I would say there is very little that is needed in a putter. As long as you get the feel and length you want, stick with the same putter and hone your skills.

Scotties are ok but if you want a truly custom high end putter with real science behind it check out Kramski putters.
And no I don’t get kickbacks but it is German engineering at its best. Having said that if you are making putts with a 2 by 4 then keep using it.

It’s actually smaller too. The 3 dots are closer to the sc logo than the heel on the fakes! There are some measurements u can look up on the Titliest website to get more tell tell signs but they are flooding the market w the “fancy fakes”

It has to be the red since the red is most recognizable Scotty Cameron color scheme. They wouldn’t make a fake yellow imo.

Aesthetically they did a great job of making a copy but as soon as I saw the close up slow mo it was obvious for me the yellow took a big skid before starting to roll out the red one the ball started almost immediately end over end. I’ve tried a ton of different putters and IMO nothing feels as buttery as a single piece milled Scotty glad they away from the inserts on the Newport’s again and back to their roots

I have 3 Scotty's, I can't tell at all. One was bought off of Ebay so who knows. One is from titleist. My most recent one was won at a golf outing at a high end club so I assume it is real

As soon as I saw how far that ball slid on the yellow one, I knew it was fake. I have a Scotty, even if you try, you can't make them not roll the ball.

I miss my Scotty Cameron putter. It was given to me as a gift from a friend for helping him with some landscaping work. Sadly it was stolen along with a nice set of custom irons. It was the nicest putter I’ve ever used.

Man that really sucks. my friend just had his seven iron stolen, I couldn’t imagine having your putter and a full set of clubs stolen.
