    FLIGHT CHOPS DISCLAIMER:
    I am a "weekend warrior" private pilot, I fly for fun with no intentions of going commercial. I have had my PPL for over 15 years, but still consider each flight a learning experience - I generally take detailed notes after each flight to remind myself what went well or what I could do to improve.... Having the GoPro cameras to record flights like this is invaluable. I find these self analysis videos very helpful in my constant quest to improve, and am happy to share. Feedback is invited; however, please keep it positive.

    I was watching AOPA's channel a while back when, at the end, there was a message about keeping GA alive. It was ironic after such a boring, poorly edited program. When I commented, they pointed me to FlyBy, their program for pilots with ADD. Really, though, if you want to attract young people, channels like this one may be the answer. Better video, better editing and better personality than AOPA. We need the AOPA for many reasons, but old people with deeper pockets drive most of GA, and that may just be the problem with recruting new pilots.

    Go for it Steve. I think you should make a deal with Vans for the RV 10 for taking the family along. Little ones grow up fast and she looks like she already has the flying bug.

    Line up is simple if you imagine wearing roller skates. No matter the aircraft size or configuration, just put your skates on both sides of the centerline like you’re guiding on a metal rail. It’s amazing how the visualization of wheels on your feet gives you instant feedback to ride that virtual rail.

    I realize I'm a bit late on this, but a build series would be great. There are a few Vans build video series out there, both overview and detail, and they all go a long way into dispelling the impression that a traditional riveted aircraft is hard to do. I've been kicking around building for years, and I was leaning towards all Blind Rivet (Pop-style) because I didn't want to deal with solid rivets. Watching on builder in particular working on his RV-10 really brought in the reality that it CAN be done. The TH-cam is Jason Ellis shows his mistakes as well. Couple that with the folks at Vans itself, and the builder community, and it takes what was an overwhelming prospect, and makes it doable. I'm leaning towards an 8 for myself, just because the size, performance, and configuration suit me. Good Luck Steve, and Clear Skies

    Hey Chops.. nice to see these two videos.. As a first-time builder, i picked the -12 because it was the easiest/fastest to build and i didn’t want to bite off more than i could chew. I’m 75% done and i wish i went for the -9 or -14 .. not because my mission changed or i made the wrong choice, but because i know my build will be done soon and i feel like i will miss building after it’s done! already thinking about building a “spare” plane 🤣

    FlightChops, When are you going to try your hand at flying the Dash 8? How hard can it be? Just head over to SeaTac in Seattle and ask Alaska for a quickflight around Puget Sound! Actually, ya, sad story and no answer for the family why after all of that! Great videos ...dont forget to come visit us in Abbotsford, BC....The famous Abbotsford Air Show is in August as well as the smaller 5 hour airshow east of here in Chilliwack, if theres enough volunteers lol....then dont forget the Cabri helicopters at BC Helicopters, made famous in the flight simulator Xplane 11! So there you go,...many good reasons for visiting us this year. Oh, by the way BCHelicopters is also the vlogger of "Pilot Yellow" on TH-cam. Oh ya, youre a fixed wing pilot...oh well, never too late!

    "I'm not used to side-by-side aircraft." My heart breaks for you that you fly so many airplanes you're not used to side-by-side now. LOL Love the videos. This renews my dream of having an RV.

      @@FlightChops - we do see how hard you work and how hard you worked before anyone really knew "Flight Chops". Now, I'll bet you couldn't walk through any aviation event without getting recognized and stopped often. Oh, and please build an RV-14. It would be a great video series to follow the build process and I think you'd love having your own airplane.

    @FlightChops your video series offer up enough basic knowledge of how planes work, that you have raised my interest level: now I'm calling flight schools, checking out their websites and reviews. You've made flying seem within reach of ordinary people, we who didn't grow up around miilitary aviators or other non-commercial pilots. From the realm of hyperaware atheletes, cyborgs and magicians, to the realm of ordinary humans.
    I'd compare it to spinning up small locomotive. Many fluids, channels and tanks to check and assess. Certain combinations of knobs and settings make a plane ready to takeoff, to land, to climb, etc;

    Those truly are some of the best home built aircraft on the market today. I've seen some that would rival a Rolls Royce for the interior finish.

    Really interested in a series on the build process. I was at Vans several months ago and flew in the 9, the 14 wasn’t available... My goal is to stop the dream and start a project in the next few years. That demo flight had me sold on Vans. Love the channel!
