How is it possible that this band is not in the Hall of Fame. Most intelligent band not named the Beatles; outstanding musicians and one of my 5 best bands of all time. Thank you for sharing
who cares about the RRHOF? it's just a closed group of old dudes who make the pics, it's the golden globes of music. and wasn't even created until the 1980s. it's not like baseball HOF where voting is open.
Yes it’s a shame for Hall of fame that Tull is not inducted. Lesser mortals rule the roost !
Well, some say Ian Anderson is crazy, the pelican flutist. I say he s kinda out there, and some people just don’t like his eccentricities. Truly the band is one of a kind, I did enjoy back to the family album and others in the 70s.
@@davidheater All geniuses are known to be eccentric and crazy at times. I’ve had a chance to speak a few words with him and found him to be absolutely down to earth. People like him are rare.
Of course... why not in the RRHoF is shameful, and they're also in "my 5 best bands of all time" as well.
Ian is 76 now, 2024, and still touring....15 shows for '24......simply amazing. Saw them in Bellingham Washington in '98....no intro band, just Tull for 2 1/2 hours....1500 people left the show high on musical perfection
Absolutely peak Tull. Best line up and a band who are completely in sync.
Could not agree more. Barlow was a beast and Glascock gone too soon.
Man they were tight 😳
I saw them twice in 3 days in March on this 1977 Songs From The Wood tour, the first night in Seattle, the second night from the third row at Washington State University across the mountains in Pullman, WA. The band was incredible both nights. Many feel that was Tull at their peak. HOWEVER most everyone who saw Tull on their 1972 Thick as a Brick tour agrees that was the band's peak and their favorite concert of all time. It certainly was mine.
@mattbush5848 wow I'm so envious. Wish I could have seen them back then. First time I saw them was in 95 on the Roots to Branches tour.
Who plays the short flute piece near the begining of the song (a bit more than 30 sec in) in this performance?
It's not Ian at that point. Perhaps Martin or one of the other "lads".
This guy, Ian Anderson ,is a Genius, and the Group an epitome of virtuosity, skill and melody. My salutations re-offerred over 50 years of being an avid fan & follower.
Ian Anderson is so incredibly talented...so is the whole band
I'm a fully grown adult, but when listening to this song I'm taken back to the memory of a 8-year-old child walking up the street with a Walkman in my hand, phones on my head and the album Songs from the Wood in my ears! A hello from Portugal!
Fã do JT desde 1969. Hello do Brasil!
It's a beautiful song. Glad I discovered JTs post 70s extensive catalogue.
Now if this didn't make your day, İ don't know what will... You have always brought all things refined into our lives İan. Thank you so much for being the artist you are.❤🍀
In the mid 1970's, I was with the record promotions department at Chrysalis Records in Hollywood, Ca. One afternoon Ian came up to the offices (Tull was in town to play the LA Coliseum) to meet with one of the co-founders of the company, Terry Ellis. The meeting was delayed and Ian was walking around the office space quietly playing a 00-18 Martin guitar. He came into my office and asked where a decent place to have lunch nearby might be. I suggested Musso & Frank on Hollywood Blvd. He then started examining the stereo equipment in my office which opened up a whole dialog which ended in him asking me to join him for lunch. I was a huge Tull fan going back to the late 60's and I was a bit awe-struck to say the least. In addition to being one of the most creative, innovative and ingenious song crafters of that era, he was an interesting and humorous conversationalist as well. Funny, I don’t remember what the hell I ate, but I remember he ordered a Monte Cristo sandwich and a cup of black tea. An hour-long lunch almost 50 years ago forever burned in my memories.
You lucky brother!!! What a blessing! Namaste!🙏
Great story, even better memory 🎶
So very cool, a lunch memory that will last a lifetime.
This is amazing!Tull's greatest album in my humble opinion!!
Along with Aqualung, must hasten to add!! oh and TAAB!!
Agreed! My favorite album of Tull with Aqualung close 2nd
I’m not sure it’s their best, but it is my favorite as well
In my opinion Thick as a brick is the greatest. In the top ten of the 70's albums..
@@danilaespada4956 certainly up there! 👌
It was my husband back in the '80's who introduced me to Jethro's music. He was 42 & I was 20 at the time. He gone now but 40 yrs later I'm watching him & his band on utube! Gotta love it!
Kinda funny how you mention the creepy age gap
I was a teenager when I heard of Jethro's music. My husband is also gone. 2 years. But he liked more Dvorjac. And Amadeus. Won't ever listen to them again. The pieces and memories. Of our shattered lives. Perhaps Jethro's. Music will help me overcome. This tradegy as well. Will think of him only a little as I assume the Jetheo. Is from the Lakes District. In England. Similarities with Garden Route in South Africa. Perhaps Jethro will say where in Lakes District. What town❤😢😢😢😢😢 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢hubbie did visit Lakes District as he was in South African Merchant Navy. But this was his home
What memories must bubble up in your mind, huh?
good for you. have loved the music from the first time i heard. Now at 75 years and still loving it.
Cradle robber 😳
My first exposure to Jethro Tull and Ian Anderson's flute was in 1971 or 1972 when I was about 13. We didn't have MTV or music videos so you sat on the floor of someone's bedroom passing around the album cover while listening to the music. I loved the flute and because it was my first, Aqualung is still my favorite album. I know this is crazy but my first exposure to Thick as a Brick was on a cassette tape that someone made! I still go crazy when I hear a Jethro Tull song and Ian's flute playing still sends me to another world. ❤❤❤
Long short story: my beloved Dad and my beloved older brother were both great fans of ❤ Jethro ❤....I started to enjoy the magic of this wonderful band when I was about 5/6 years old. When I listen to Jethro Tull I can still feel the presence of The Old Wise Man and The Kind Young Friend (may they rest in peace)😢
They are still with me, their souls will live forever ♾️🤍🤍✨ ♾️ A greeting from Italy 🇮🇹❤
Ian Anderson... An exceptional performer! His band Jethro Tull has been my number one favorite for well over forty years! Thank you, thank you and thank you again.
Ian Anderson war ein großartiger Sänger
One of their best songs/albums
48 years been following Tull.
I'm happy to finally see this LEGENDARY song live! That's so cool, thank you!
Started listening to Jethro Tullbackin 1972. THICK AS A BRICK was my first. I still haven't heard a song of theirs I don't like! Or LOVE
Me too thick as a brick🎉
❤❤❤
Awesome Album
А я в 72 м году начал с "Акваланга"Первые и незабываемые впечатления!!!
Yes I was 16 years old when I went to visit my. Girlfriend in Sydney. Sydneysiders they were indeed her name was Marlene. We travelled about a bit. I met a guitarist beginner of course he INTRODUCED me to Jethro Till. Got the notification on. Drop everything. Waiting for notification. Can't wait. To get acquainted more with Jethro Tills. MUSIC carefree and relaxing hopefully as my health fails. Perhaps would have helped my late husband. It is on the operatic culture line Dvorjac Amadeus. What he loved with his whole heart RIP
This is Spring time in the Midwest for me. Cheers from the Great Lakes!
Best Tull line-up
One of his very best songs, actually a masterpiece. !!! And best album he ever did.
I have memories of this Album , & it being played in a Large Forest in Northumbria , me & 3 other of my mates took 1,000 Shrooms , each , & we had such a Trip 👍 a great day was had by ALL involved
Thanx Ian ( when it comes 2 the Flute my friend , u is the G.O.A.T. , No Question fella )
The best rock and roll band of all time is Jethro Tull.
Such talent & virtuosity will never be surpassed; they've been the soundtrack of my life.
This music never gets dated.
When i was a child my dad played his Stand Up album for me, ive been a fan since.
Ahh, the sweet memories of Jethro Tull !!!
Thank you again !!!!!
My Favorite Tull album!!!
Caught this very tour at the Boston Garden as a young musician of 21 years. Traveled from Maine together with my band mates. Being a drummer myself one highlight was Barry Barlow's captivating performance. The sound system captured every element of his playing and his kit. I was enthralled. In my opinion the band was at its absolute height with its most skilled members including John Glasscock on bass. He sadly died not long after this performance. I remember thinking how technically perfect the band was to 100 percent accurately play songs from the current album which I owned at the time. Flawless, One of my 2 favorite concert experiences in all of my life. Ask me about the other some 10yrs later.
Songs from the Wood was the first Jethro Tull album I ever bought and this live version of the song is brilliant
Ian Anderson is the best all around rocker ever! No one comes close!
thanks for all the songs, hugs from Brazil
I adore this band, cheers from Lisbon 🇵🇹
Songs from the Woods was the first Tull album I ever heard.
Legend!! The best band ever!!
My first Tull album.
Талантливейший композитор, поэт, музыкант, певец, артист...
I can't think of anything that these guys have done that I haven't liked!❤🎉❤
All their albums were brilliant..but I think songs from the wood was the best…
One of my fav bands from the day. Started listening with Aqualung and never stopped.
Saw ‘Tull’ live at Maple leaf Gardens in Toronto where they toured “Thick as a Brick”. What an amazing concert. Everyone was anxiously waiting for the band to arrive on stage when a bunch of fellows, in dustman’s coats and caps and carrying brooms, got on stage and began sweeping. That just heightened the excitement for the concert to begin. After a few moments the coats came off and each band member went to his respective instrument and began to play. What an interesting way to start a concert. I will never forget that.
Thank you Ian and all the other band members for some amazing music and memories 🙏🙏🙏
So very cool, I have either seen or heard of that routine they did and I've only seen Ian and the boys wants but what a show. No way to know you were seeing history at the time and leaving you with an indelible memory.
There was a bong and a song in my childhood! Now, I am elfin forever!🎉😂❤
Because this was first broadcast on beeb 2 and we only had a b&w vhf/uhf telly….my poor mother had stand in the loft holding an indoor aerial so that I could watch it!! Now if THAT is not maternal love, then what is???
NOBODY IN THIS WORLD 🌎 LIKE HIM❤❤❤
Classic Tull. Timeless. Enduring. There can be no substitue & any attempts to copy fail miserably. This was the pinnacle of 70's Progressive Rock.
Such a great time for Tull, and they did some great stuff to celebrate it! I've had this one for a long time, but I've finally gotten the Songs From the Wood 40th Anniversary box that includes both audio and video presentations of another show from November, 77. It has been reissued for about $40 instead of the $350 they get for the original release 7 years ago!
I remember my sister coming home from her first year of college with three albums she played constantly, and this was one of them. Great memories and check out the box if you love this time in the history of the band, and I certainly do!
The best band! I met the band especially Ian Anderson, Martin Barree and the other members at the CCH in Hamburg. The whole band assigned my self designed British flag with the band s name inide. It was incredible for me. Up to now the best musician's.
I saw this tour in Nashville - it was awesome!
Tull was my first concert (Aqualung tour in Philadelphia) thanks to an older sister. That show turned me from a fan into a fanboy, and, decades later, Tull is still a huge part of my music listening 🎶
You made the 70s a brilliant time for me and shaped my musical expectations 🥰
So grateful
YEAH! One of my lovely Songs!
I wish I could have seen them live back in the day. Ian Anderson was so darned entertaining.
And that is without autotune💪🎤
The best
Wow, very special ,the most creative period in rock history , a bit like Gentle Giant...
Absolutely brilliant, this started my wonderful journey with Tull ❤
Sheer Class
Always been aTull fan😊
Saw this show at MSG and a few days later at The Spectrum.
My Father introduced all 4 of us kids to Jethro Tull and we have seen them as a family Twice in Concert. I hope that my kids will take to their music like the 4 of us did need to keep the Tull gene running in the Family (My Uncles joke)
Efesus Ancient concert was perfect.
Still incredible!
What an energy, that song is pure joy to listen to! Such a wonderful, creative music... - I am very grateful that I was able to watch Ian Anderson perform live in the 1990ies...❤
Barriemore Barlow FTW! A very sporting gent, apparently! 🤘🙂👍
Love it. Thank you Ian and gang.
Espetacular
My dad loved tull, he kept trying to get me to listen to them and appreciate it, but as a kid I just couldn't get into it. Now I wish I could sit with him and listen 1 more time.
Wowzah!! The brilliant exuberance and sheer joy emanating from this band is truly unprecedented! Every album is an utter work of art and SONG FROM THE WOODS is no exception. So alive and shining bright on stage-they give there ALL every time. And his sumptuous lyrics create scenarios of wonder and true hope!
I’d say they are absolutely the most unique and innovative rock band EVER! Every song is a blossoming of blessed perfection. And even all of these words I say merely touch upon there value for all of us. A hearty and uproarious salute to pure scintillating genius!! YES!!!
Seen them at maryhill winery . They played new stuff first half. Some people were leaving. Something happened when they came back from break. They out did themselves. The best most harmomic music i have ever heard. It was epic . Blew us all away. . . Maybe 15 year ago. All for $25 . Best concert ive ben to
Great 👍❤
I remember the trippy op art posters advertising their gigs and that is what drew a 17 year old me to be a lifelong fan!
Hard to believe this performance is 47 years old. Music is a strong trigger to the past.
Thanks Ian, made my day.
Одна из самых моих любимых песен у Tull ❤
I like the way the tempo of song has change. Nice folksy sounding song at start and then a rocking folk song by the end.
Saw Tull many times over the years, they were perhaps the best band ever. Musical genius. I also had a massive crush on Ian Anderson.
This tour was my first concert. Uriah Heep warmed up and then I was stunned and amazed for the next 47yrs and counting.
Amazing 💓
love from Brazil
Brillant performance, and Ian's voice with full strength...Nowadays I can't stand hearing his struggle.
My first concert at the New Haven Coliseum. Many more since. TAAB 1+2 was my favorite.
Title track from my favorite Tull album.
A band which has a essence of medeival music listened them since 1969 Ian Anderson👍

I saw the Songs from the Wood tour in Kansas City’s Municipal Auditorium later that year. Opening song: Wond’ring Aloud
