Jethro Tull is up there with the giants. They will never get old or out of fashion. On the contrary. And Ian is one of the great ones. His musical genius will live on for many generations to come.

Definitely. Bonham said Barrie Barlow was the " finest drummer England produced in recent years". Blackmore said Glascock was the best bass player. Then you have Evan, Palmer, and Barre.

A riff in 13/4 that sounds natural. This was the best era of Tull. Glascock, Palmer, Barrie Barlow… stunning writing and arranging, Ian’s voice still in its prime.
I saw them in 1978 in Boston garden. I then saw them 45 years later this past October in Hampton Beach New Hampshire with his new band! He still Ian Anderson is still unbelievable although he could not move around the stage like he did 45 years ago. Still a great show!

One of the most unique and underrated concerts I have ever attended
I have seen around 100 concerts dating back to the early 70's. 1978 - Jethro Tull with Uriah Heep as opener was my very favorite.

This specific performance of this song, as included in the '20 Years of Jethro Tull' box set (which I first heard when I got that set as a Christmas present in 1988), is my single favorite piece of music I've ever heard in my life. For me it's the apex of everything I love in music, and has remained fascinating and inspirational to me to this day. Thank you.

I discovered Songs from the Wood in about 1980 in my brother's tape collection. I was captivated. That summer, I played it endlessly. The countryside was lush and verdant. Washed with summer rain I just wanted to forget school and go live in a tree. It remains my favorite Tull album. Happy days!

Ever since I first heard this rendition of Velvet Green, tucked away on 1988's 20 Years of Jethro Tull box set, this has been one of my favourite tracks of theirs.
Many years later, with the advancement of the internet and TH-cam, I was overjoyed to be able to see the live perfomance and not only hear it.
Now, 35 years later, I still believe this to be one of Tull's finest live achievements (as is all of the Sight And Sound In Concert playlist), the studio version paling in comparison, with Ian's vocals at their melodic best (rather than the over-raspiness prevalent on SFTW).

This is one of my favorite examples of how good they were. I really love his singing in this. So good.
This is what it's all about! I've never seen a lead singer play a complex fingering sequence whilst singing before. Usually they sing and then bother multiple frets, or vicey-versey, but it's usually a bridge too far for them to practice both together.

In order to be inducted one either has to offer hem/themselve(s) as candidate(s) or be sponsored by someone who is already an inductee. For many it was almost automatic (for example Elvis Presley) for others it took a 40-yar career filled with gazillion record sales and world-famous stage acts before they got the "honor" (example, Rush). A few have downright refused to be inducted. BTO comes to mind but there are many others. Some were inducted more than once, notably Paul McCartney as a member of The Beatles and as a solo artist, and Neil Young is a triple inductee: first. as a member of Buffalo Springfield. then as a member of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, all of whom owing it to a single album (Deja Vu) without which CSN would probably never have been inducted (it's CSN&Y who was inducted, the distinction has to be made. Young was inducted a third time for his solo career. All in all it's a little ridiculous, a person should be inducted on merit, and should be inducted only once regardless of the bands they were once part of.

Have this album and Aqualung, best era for Jethro Tull! Saw them in concert at the then Capital Center in Largo, Maryland back in late 1977. One of the best concerts I’ve been to.

@@timmurphy334 someone told me a time ago but my memory isn’t what it was, I’m sure someone will see these comments who will know? It’s a fantastic tone anyway and Ian plays it beautifully.
I saw Jethro Tull live in 1969 ( yes I'm old) and they were great. We sat in the back row of the floor seating in a 10k capacity round venue and I still remember Ian's wild hair and his single-legged stance.
Regarding his guitar skill, I once heard him say in an interview when he was beginning his career he realized he wasn't a great guitarist and he focused on his flute and vocals. I've always thought him to be a great guitarist. Saw him in 2013 and he was still an outstanding performer. Glad he's still going strong. Thanks, Ian... the soundtrack of my life!
@@timmurphy334I think they call it a Martin 3/4Parlour guitar. Smaller than a full sized acoustic guitar. Or it is maybe a 1961 Martin O-16NY. I could be wrong. He has used both. I think he started with a cheap Yamaha way back when, but this is a Martin for sure. I am not good enough to be sure.
