I loved playing this as "A Senna" in the McLaren F1 (always my favourite supercar), tournament, and not touching a barrier or another car. So satisfying to hear "LAP RECORD" at the stripe! That menu music after the Proving Grounds race is epic; wish I could download it.
I got this on CD and we played it on split screen all night.. played tag most of the time.. f50 on a manual gearbox with headphones was just addictive..
Soooo many memories!🥺 If I'm not wrong, there were a shortcut In the canadian race, after the start, there were like a parking you could go through it, and get faster to the other side of the curve!
What I found most interesting with the game is that it includes multiple different physics models the player could choose from. *_Arcade_* which makes the game handle easily like well, an arcade racer, increasing top end acceleration and including an early form of tap-to-drift functionality, something which would later become standard in future arcade games. Think Ridge Racer V or Hot Pursuit 2010. *_Simulation_* which takes oversteer and understeer into account as well as lift-off and powersliding, while making cars accelerate and brake more realistically. Think Gran Turismo 1. And *_Wild_* which sends the car's momentum and grip levels into the stratosphere, as well as reducing collision weight, causing wrecks to look more spectacular. Think Asphalt 5, or Burnout 2.
I miss features like this in games, simple in changes to the physic or landscape can make a long way into making a game that can be replayed for years!

As an adult you can appreciate how meticulously the whole game was designed. A masterpiece. As a 7 year old in Germany in the late 90s, racing these tracks before our long walk to school with my Italian friend .. simply epic times and tooooo nostalgic. Mexico, Greece and mystic peaks were our fave tracks!!

We used to play NFS 2 SE LAN in late 90's at one of our friend's house 6 players yes ! 6 truley physical players (Knockout Mode) Few People may know this : If you held the Computer by two Cars ( let say you & your friend ) in (Mystic Peaks) Track and let your Friend pass while you still held CPU , he will go Crazy !! and if let him go you'll see him in the map like a bullet! from 0 to 1000/mph !!
I have played this game and absolutely loved it. Also, I have played this game on LAN. It was the most fun multiplayer game I have played on LAN. I just hosted the game and had my friend bring his laptop. We have managed to play it on lan and it was a blast. If any of you got this game, try to play it on LAN with a friend and you will of what I mean. Let’s not forget the kick ass soundtrack too.
This, and Roadrash... The ONLY two video games I have played in life. Absolute privilege to have been able to do this. I'm going to try and see if I can somehow run it on a Mac.
These memories ... When PCs the first time were capable to produce mind-blowng 3D graphics you couldn't imagine before, thanks to the awesome 3DFX add-on cards. The music, the video sequences, altogether a milestone of pc race games. Today it is hard to understand the magic of this, but the step from low fps, low res blocky software rendering to constantly 30fps and above, hi res and dithered 3D hardware rendering with additional graphic effects was like water to wine.
I remember playing this as a kid , I knew the name and was remembering the lava stage......It was much better in my mind. That time was awesome. Getting older now :)
me, I had an old commodore as a kid, and I had this entire stack of cd ROMs that my sisters and I would play off of. But this game was my absolute favorite, and it still is, it also reminds me of halo 1.

Ah man, me and my cousins used to play this so such back in the day. We never did get it to look right though. We never had the right drivers or whatever. We knew it was supposed to look different, like in the gameplay video that shows up on the menu if you leave it alone for a minute or so. I still have the game and a 2000 Gateway Select with a 950 MHz AMD Athlon to play it on. (and a really nice, large, flat Dell / Sony Trinitron CRT as well.)
Aaron Storm Some years ago I used to play old games that only supported direct connect through a VPN aplication called *Hamachi*. That's what most people often use to emulate network play when behind a firewall or gateway without having to configure the later.
My friend had some of these NFS games around the late '90s. I love the music in this game, and other racing games at that time often had similarly great music. I literally put this on so I can work with something that sounds energetic in the background.
That's why i love TH-cam because you can see some Details from a PC Game which can't you see yourself if you don't have the Special Edition, a old Windows or the right Graphikcard on your PC.
