@@kensington3942 bruh space tech that works are actually expensive. If I can build a space station for a cost of Disneyland and an entry cost of Disneyland and a ride that costs a bus fare, I would do it. But that's not how the situation is right now.

I first heard about this program watching a video on how Axiom will connect to the ISS and then build up a stepping stone station so that it can stay in space once the ISS plummets to the Pacific Ocean. @@nagualdesign I suppose they're talking about American human spacecraft to ISS and such. There was a period after the Space Shuttle program was ended.
@@fatitankeris6327 I also think they could be referring to the complete overhaul that SpaceX has brought to the design of launch vehicles in general. The space launch industry currently assumes that most new vehicles are being designed with genuine, low-cost reusability in mind, or it's seen as a step back from what's already been proven. That was not the case even 10 years ago. If Axiom Space can do that on the same level regarding commercial participation and application of space stations, then life will be very different for humanity by the end of the century

I hate it when people use the phrase "as a species" to try and add gravitas to a statement. Being berthed to the ISS will not define how we move forward as a species in space, it will simply dictate how Axiom progresses as a private company. The rest of humanity will carry on going about their daily business on Earth, and most people will be unaware of what Axiom is doing.
Love it. The idea of using the ISS as a base to construct another, more modern station is a sound one. Good luck to Axiom Space in this endeavor. The future doesn't "just happen". It is what we make of it, what we put efforts, time, money, and love into. I grew up with the beginnings of our space program and envy those who will witness the next 60 years. It will be amazing, thanks in part to those like Axiom Space.
That is what makes most sense, using the ISS as a platform and maintain it for new construction, i am disheartened that the ISS could be deorbited when it could be replaced by new upgraded parts and other structural needs, it is an engineering MARVEL and we should use it as a platform for continued construction projects or otherwise such as what Axiom is doing....
@@RamblingRodeo indeed, we need to get the most bang for our bucks out of the ISS, as long as it can safely be occupied. The 2030 extension will depend on those two old Russian segments still operating and still being relatively safe. They will be at nearly double their designed lifetime by then.
Fingers crossed...And then of course depending on what the Russians decide to do....
@@rosswarren436 Ive also wondered if SpaceX which has stated they would take up the slack if something happens with the Russians, what if they placed a dedicated Starship portion in place as a central core of sorts with docketing rings attached all along its body? Id love to see the ISS central core used that keep the modules together as a means of bring in new portions overtime and creating a REAL permanent station that is flexable enough to endure time, id hate to see us throw it away only to start over, why not throw away the bad and replace w/ New? Even inflatable pieces could be new portions or otherwise while using the can type for the core of a starship for the core of a station?
@@RamblingRodeo some of it has to do with not being able to manipulate the modules without the shuttles available. They were all designed to be plugged in via the shuttles robot arms.
And I'm not 100% sure if they can be disconnected now. An ISS engineer would have to speak to that.
Another issue facing us if the Russians decide to abandon the ISS, is that so far, only their Progress tankers bring up fuel for the Zarya module to do reboost, station keeping, attitude control when the flywheels aren't being used, and collision avoidance.
We've only just started experimenting with using Cygnus cargo carriers for some of those tasks, so we are behind the 8-ball on much of that.
But yeah, some of the younger modules could perhaps be reused. Plans for that (if possible) would need to be worked out - and soon.
Considering the cost per pound of payload when they were carried up by the shuttles, and the risks we took doing so, it would be a shame to needlessly throw them away.
But I'm afraid Starship will be delayed too long, especially for any considerable redesign necessary to make a de facto core module. Already, it seems doubtful that any test flights will be launching from Boca Chica. And the current Dragons are simply not designed for those tasks, with the engines not pointing in the best directions, not much fuel reserves, etc.
We were foolish to put the Russians and their modules in the critical path for the ISS, but that is exactly what we did.
@@rosswarren436 The entire purpose behing the Russians being apart of it, was to ensure that many of their scientist didn't go rogue and build something for a rogue nation state of certain weapons, the west was and is subsidizing since the fall of the soviet union, we even secured there nuclear weapons at their request, so it all goes back to the end of the Cold War and ensuring that certain scientist didn't go work for someone they shouldn't have, to ensure that we subsidized a lot of industries, while bringing Russia into the Global trading system and economic benefits that is why Russia is attached to so much, it is not something that has or is talked about. I studied cold war as late as 2007-2011 in college.
However, i thought i had read that NASA/SpaceX has come up with a plan to ensure that SpaceX can boost the station if the Russians do intend to separate or otherwise and this point, i cant see how they continue work on the ISS, NASA has stopped paying the Russians for rides and have order up more w/ SpaceX on Dragon.
As for Starship, pay attention to Florida Starship is almost completed and so is the launch facility.....
can't wait for an axiom station around Mars!!!

Are they planning on using the International Space Station as a platform to grow their own space station and then detach, becoming a free floating space station of their own? If so, that sounds like a very good idea to me, using existing infrastructure as kind of a dry dock.

If you are going to invest in a module for the ISS, I’d recommend also sending a mission to raise the space station’s orbit. Otherwise, it’ll only last till about 2030

Take home message for me was that fact they said they want to plan to double crew capacity every 5 years. By 2030, once the station has been fully built and running a couple of years it will be 8, by 2035 it could be 16!? thats pretty bold and incredible. That in itself exceeds the numbe of people in space currently acheive by ISS + Tiangong + a 4 man crew changer over/private mission.
So its weird how it looks like "copilot" in the movie Walle. And its a Axiom spaceship. So did Pixar know something back then. I think its cool, im all for it.
The first really big step in space station development will be when the first rotating ring is made. That will be a big day for humans.

I want to talk all the height but I’m looking forward to seeing the first module attached to the international space station and more to come hoping to see the entire space station and more attached to the international station and then eventually detach to their own systems very soon before I pass away I would like to see at least three other space stations up there before then and the successor to the international space station complete can’t wait love space love was going on including the future I’m going to Mars also looking forward to the space station that will be in place on the Moon and the orbital station as well this happening while I’m still alive because currently I am 57 as well as with my disabilities I would love to be one of the first people with disabilities with mental health and migraines and being blind to be up in space as a guinea pig to see how people like myself could do in zero gravity
I'm afraid, they only take rich people and extremely high functioning scientists to space. They dont care about people like us with disabilities.
@@winkekatze5593 I agree that does have to change besides those of us with disabilities could actually be beneficial for the space program because of one reason to study the effects on 0G on us we study of our brains as well as our disabilities with space flight to see how well people with disabilities could hold up in 0G physically emotionally and mentally it would be nice I would be a guinea pig in no time at all that was offered the chance to go into space but unfortunately I don’t think that’ll ever happen which somehow we need to make a push publicly to our space agencies
@@winkekatze5593 The only person I know that’s been in space it has a disability is Haley arsenal with inspiration for SpaceX she had pretty much a knee joint replacement when she was a child when she had cancer Saint Judes hospital where she works and where she had her surgery done she has a complete artificial knee and pinned into her leg and she actually is it only person I know of that had bone cancer as a child with a disability now no call day at prosthesis has been the only one in space so far the flight was called inspiration for put on by a philanthropist billionaire raise money for Saint Jude hospital and had four civilians counting himself on board one of the space ex crew dragon spacecraft video is on TH-cam

Could they design a section of the station that could rotate to simulate gravity? Like the ship from 2001: A Space Odyssey. That way, the astronauts could have a little healthy gravity to strengthen their bones and muscles.
Good idea but it have lot 'too much'. This will be too big, too heavy, too vibrate, and too difficult to start rotation. Just remember if we began rotation something inside ISS we must to hold ISS itself outside. To hold with what? How many fuel needed to hold ISS' position during spin up rotating section/module?
They will not do it. Never. They're thinking wrong way. Only possible way is making and assembling station in orbit. Delivering ready made modules is waste of time and effort. It's better to design machines to build something than building by you self. Simple as that. Axiom will not survive as a company. They will extinct. It's not the way.

So what does it mean to be totally independent of ISS after you have attached the new modules to ISS? Is the plan then to separate and detach from ISS an be a separate station or will they keep being attached to the ISS for an undetermined time? I mean, Nasa are planning to retire the ISS whithin 10-13 years are they not? I know you just talked about your thing for 3 min straight but I was left congused as to igthese are simply new modules to the ISS or if its a new separate space station? Good job:)
Yes they are going to break away from the ISS. Not sure why it isn't shown here. In fact if their business is successful, they plan make multiple independent stations that way.
