Hi Dom, another great battle! Nice to see the supplement rules being used in anger. I think I will have to invest in a copy. Many Thanks & Happy New Year👍
Enjoyed the new rules ... I have almost always had a mix of men at arms with Billmen as I think that is how they would have fought .. So it's a thumbs up from me 😊
@BootsontheTable helped me decide on the supplement. Still not sure whether to have small MaAs or to do away with them and mix the few I have in with my Bill and Bow.
Excellent video, a damn fine watch, much appreciated. As for the man-at-arms, the supplement specifically states that these do not exist as a separate troop type. So there are no units of men-at-arms and all rules from the main book no longer apply, only the bonuses from the upgrade. Like you I was concerned about the 6 shot from longbow, but it doesn't seem to be too bad. Pat
@patrickj8425 cheers. I very much enjoyed it and have lots more retinue planned. Yeah the MAA thing seems a big issue for some. Apart from messing up my existing retinue I am OK with integrated MAA
Great video Much thanks , FOR THE ARROW STORMS , I,M GOING TO USE MY PERRY plastic ARROW BASES STUFF TO METAL BASES. i,VE Just ordered 28mm plastic Atlantic Peasent and wargames atlantic renaissance cavalry, tHANK YOU FOR YOUR REVIEW .
I always appreciate your battle reports. A quick question, have you house ruled a few things? Just wondering as you play a few things different to me. Principally close combat break tests, on my reading of the rules the modifier is the difference between the melee wounds for each side. Also with support, I believe units should be touching and you don't allow follow up by shaken units? Just curious, I know lots house rule things but I'm trying to make sure I understand the rules, before I go making adjustments myself :)
Cheers John. We play the combat tests same as you - it’s entirely possible we got it wrong occasionally of course! I think the support rule is within 3 inches but maybe we are just doing it wrong!
Good to know I've got combat right, in principle at least! We find we often get caught playing Black Powder/Pike and Shotte/Hail Caesar in the wrong game :). After checking I'm sure supports should be touching, there isn't any mention of a distance. I'm looking forward to the Mortimer's Cross report, I'm quite impressed with the new WOTR book.
Thanks for this; very well presented and most enjoyable. Are there pure men-at-arms units in the supplement. I'd heard they were just an upgrade to bills. In which case, they would presumably represent a front rank - as in the Scots nobles at Flodden. Btw the rear support rules in Hail Caesar have never made any sense to me, so I ignore them.
@@BootsontheTable I also initially read the 50% rule as half of all foot units including bill & bow must be longbow. I re-read it after your reply and agree that the bill & bow appear to count towards the 50%. Looking at the Orders of Battle for the scenarios, there seems to be a lot of longbow units. Either way it looks like I'm going to need a lot more longbows. If there is one criticism I would make of the supplement it is that the author's intentions can be a bit unclear.
I double-checked with Rob Grayston just to be sure, here's his reply: Household units are included in the numbers of bow-armed troops, i.e. longbowmen and household make up the 50% - so it doesn’t have to be all pure longbowmen units! (edit: re-posted because I clicked the wrong 'reply")
Thanks for narrating your way through the game prep and then the game itself. Useful to see how things work. Happy new year!

Forget the last point, just heard you do that near the end of the game :)

Correct, no men-at-arms units in the supplement lists. They are upgrades to bill and household units.
Yep as Patrick says no pure MAA anymore there are upgrade options
1st observation is that there are no archer units (min 50% of infantry). I assume this is purely because of lack of figures 😁
They are mixed in with the bill. That’s how the rules work you must have 50% including household formations of mixed bill and bows

@ yes definitely going to have to get more longbowmen myself
