Our War Game legitimately has to be one of the best anime shortmovies/OVA's based on an *existing* franchise to exist. [So not counting standalones]. It outright subverts expectations for the genre and the franchise. The villian gets a leg up by skipping a stage. The villian attacks *during transformation sequences* . He outright targets Patamon over the warp-digivolving Agumon/Gabumon because *he knows Angemon would be a major threat to a digimon like him* . He targets Wargreymon's Dramon Destroyers to disarm him. To be fair; it's apparently played up more like a berzerker in the origional; but the dub adapation plays it off as Dioboromon being *smart*. Infermon outright says 'Not so fast' before he attacks...
Speaking of subverting the genre, they also do something I don't think I've seen any similar media do. Try to tell the authorities. Tai rightly points out they should contact someone about what's going on and Izzy says Willis already tried. That's a small thing but it covers the often ignored base of, "Why are the kids the only ones stopping this?"

They can't tell the authorities because literally all the lines are engaged by Infermon. Infermon is actively shutting down the means to stop him. It's actually amazing how despite being such a welded together junkheap; the dub managed Our War Game so well. The OWG dub [Ignoreing the other two things attached to it by duct tape] is actually glorious. Yeah it's not 100% true to the source material but that's because of the things attached to it; and arguably, the changes make it better, not worse. Also it kinda makes Hurricane Touchdown better the idea that the virus that drives Wendigomon mad is the same one which caused Dioboromon. [Causes some problems for Revenge of Dioboromon but that wasn't a thing at the time]
Not to mention he wanted to commit fucking genocide by launching a nuke and provoking humanity into starting WWIII. Much more diabolical than just vague ideas of world domination by Myotismon or the Dark Masters.
I find it funny how few people realize that the entire premise of Digimon Our War Game was ripped straight from the similarly named film "War Games" and then back in 2009 we got Summer Wars, which again rehashed the premise of Our War Game, but made it generally accessible to those not familiar with Digimon. as well as making it have a bit more depth that you understandably don't get out of a kids franchise. It also did the same thing in that the antagonist AI "Love Machine" was smart, knocking out all attempts at stopping it in any conventional manner, but the concept of Oz being a platform integrated into every aspect of life made the threat and impact immense.
As much as I love the japanese version of "our war game", this song was cooler than the ambience they had in the original. It got you hyped for a rematch! :D
I'll take dubs over subs most of the time myself. I just wish they didn't chop things up and re-write stuff to string together unrelated movies. The 02 segment got absolutely *butchered.*
Essentially one of the most hype power up scenes in anime with a battle worn wargreymon and metalgurumon attempting to speed up their processing while simultaneously being watched world wide and the situation falling apart as Diaboromon keeps multiplying.

After the BBEG Mega Digivolved and beat the protagonists Digimon half to death. In a twisted, gleeful smile he summons up a clock, secretly announcing a countdown. To the Protags complete terror, they discover that the bad guy has hacked into the American Missile system and fired a warhead that’s heading straight for Japan. Just when it looks like Tai’s heart is about to get lodged up his throat, Wargreymon, his partner, gets up. The channels were open and he heard everything. He knows what’s at stake now. Together with MetalGarurumon they prepare to hunt down the villain in order to force shutdown the missile mid flight. From this moment on the song plays in a desperate chase sequence and we can’t see Wargreymon’s eyes anymore. While everyone else is watching that clock tick away, Wargreymon is just hurdling head first towards the literal jaws of death. Never stopping… Never stopping… Never stopping now. This song hits so good because it’s used in a desperate, bad moment in comparison to all of the other songs. It’s a last gasp to try and hype up the characters and the audience in the hopes that they can still win.
