Playing this on a Boom Box with all the neighborhood kids in roller skates, a spinning multi colored light to set the mood in one of our garages..Sister Sledge or Donna Summer would be played next!

When they wrote the song it was originally Aw Fuk Off directed at Studio 54 disco club because they would not let the band in so they went back to their apartment and started jamming and that night they new they had hit song but had to change the lyrics to Aw Freak Out.

This is classic disco music from the 1970s, other songs they did include Everybody Dance, I Want Your Love and Good Times. Disco was a very popular genre in the 1970s especially and this song was very familiar, you would hear it everywhere, it was often on Top of the Pops and elsewhere. Thanks for this reaction, guys, take care now. 😊😊

You probably heard more of their music than you know, Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards from Chic were big producers in the 80's, they worked with Sister Sledge, Diana Ross, David Bowie, Madonna,Duran Duran,INXS and more . Bassist Bernard Edwards died in 1996 but Nile Rodgers still had hit songs as guitarist with Daft Punk on the "Random acces Memories" album

The lyric “just come on down to 54” is a reference to the famous Nightclub in New York City …Studio 54 that was a regular hangout for the most famous musicians, models etc of the 1970’s.
Definitely one of the most well known songs of the disco era.

Nile Rodgers who headed up Chic (pronounced with an "sh" sound) is one of the great funk guitar artists and producers.
"Just come on down to 54..." Famous (infamous?) for just about every type of excess of the late '70s to early '80s, Studio 54 was THE place to see and be seen in NYC.
George, if you're curious to find out more about the craziness that was "54," there's a movie of the same title that might make for an interesting review on your Close-Up channel. ✌️

Plenty famous people frequented that place, for example Rod Stewart, Michael Jackson, John Travolta and of course Freddie Mercury! It was only open from April 1977 to January 1980 but there's plenty stories about it! 😲

So, the thing with this song is: It was originally "fck off". One of the doormen at Studio 54, a famous Disco, wouldn't let one of the band members in the club after grace Jones invited him personally (but forgot to put him on the list for the doormen)

      Yes!
I've heard members of Chic telling this story over the years!
So the part of the song where they sing
      "Ahhhhh... Freak Out!"
is them referring to their reaction when the doorman refused to let them through the velvet rope and enter the club -- and what they were REALLY thinking at that time was "Ahhhhh... Fkkk You!"

The man behind Chic was Nile Rodgers. He's a superproducer who has worked with everyone: Steve Winwood, INXS, Madonna, David Bowie, Debbie Harry, Grace Jones, Sister Sledge, Thompson Twins, Duran Duran, B-52's, Diana Ross, Daft Punk, Jeff Beck, Mick Jagger, Bryan Ferry, Christina Aguillera, Lady GaGa, Sheena Easton, Al Jarreau, Cyndi Lauper, Eric Clapton, Stray Cats, and more. As well as composing soundtracks for movies and video games. He's a legend. Glad you liked this HUGE dance and pop hit!

They've each also worked independently with Duran Duran. Edwards also produced: The Power Station, Rod Stewart, ABC, Robert Palmer, Jody Watley, Adam Ant, Joe Cocker, Johnny Mathis, Missing Persons, Platinum Blonde and others.

At the time, this was the only song to ever have hit #1 in the US THREE times! It was a real battle between Chic, "You Don't Bring Me Flowers" (Barbara Streisand/Neil Diamond), and the BeeGees (To Much Heaven) - so "Le Freak" bounced from #1 to #2 and back a few times. I'm not sure if that's happened since.

For those who are interested in history the song "Le Freak, c'est chic!" by the band CHIC, it's a French word play and pressions "Le fric, c'est chic!", which literally means "Money, is chic!" - The French word *"Fric"* is slang for *"money"* , and it sounds similar to "freak". So, "Le fric, c’est chic" would translate to *"Money, It’s stylish"* ... ALSO! ... the guitarist Nile Rodgers played with the famous French band, *Daft Punk* with their song "Get Lucky" ... now you know! 🙂

From the article: How Studio 54 gave Nile Rodgers the idea for Le Freak by Chic "...the duo (Nile Rodgers & Bernard Edwards) were invited by supermodel Grace Jones to super club Studio 54 (New York)... considered the home of (the) disco scene in the late 1970s. A big night was expected by all, but Nile and Bernard hadn't banked on the club's notoriously tough door policy. Nile takes up the story: "Somehow, we couldn't give the right password to get in. They slammed the door in our faces and said 'F off!'." I happened to live around the corner from the back door of Studio 54 and when we went home, we got two bottles of Dom Pérignon Champagne, which we used to call rock 'n' roll mouthwash. We (Bernard & Nile) downed those really quickly and got buzzed. We remembered this guy slamming the door going 'Ahhhhh f*** off!' Which turned into 'F*** Studio 54!' "That turned into 'Ahhhhh freak out!'. It became the biggest song in the history of Atlantic Records to this very day."

The group's name Chic is pronounced as "Sheek." "Chic" is a French word meaning "elegant, sophisticated and in style." Some of the lyrics are "Le Freak ... C'est chic" ... which means "The Freak ... It is in style/popular." ... Earler in the lyrics, they sing: "Have you heard about the new dance craze?" ... So the Freak is a style of dance ... or maybe it just means to get wild and freaky on the dance floor?! 🙂

The name is pronounced, Sheek. As in fashionable. The story behind this song is that the band was rehearsing in New York and decided to go to the world’s most famous disco, Studio 54. You’d see famous people like Michael Jackson and Diana Ross on any night. Unfortunately, the band wasn’t famous yet and the club was so exclusive, they weren’t allowed to enter. So, the band went back to the studio and started playing and singing “F#ck You!” Of course they couldn’t record that so they changed it to Freak Out!

  • @geetee4459
    @geetee4459 ปีที่แล้ว

Chic rhymes with Freak not brick. Nile & Bernard were legends and produced hits for Sister Sledge, Diana Ross, David Bowie, Madonna, Debbie Harry & Power Station (plus others) as well as their own and Chic. As a music magazine described them at the time 'pre-meditated excellence'. This song was the biggest hit Atlantic Records ever had. Nile & Bernard were asked by the label if they could write some songs for another artist. They said 'we only want to work with an unknown artist' and so Sister Sledge got a bunch of big hits including classics like 'He's The Greatest Dancer' and 'We Are Family'.

Now, you haven't done a reaction to Led Zeppelin for a while (last one was in September last year) and one of their songs that I love, which definitely sounds like a traditional rock n roll song, is Boogie with Stu. The 'Stu' in the title is Ian Stewart who was the Rolling Stones' pianist, and he is brilliant on the boogie piano, I love the boogie piano! It's from the Physical Graffiti album (1993). It's a great song and they're all having such fun. In February 2021 you did a reaction to LZ Rock and Roll song which was fabulous, and this is really good, too. @@annemaclean6634 Hi Anne, I read your other comment to Frank's too. I join in on a couple of livestream reaction channels and they are really fun. The hosts will take requests then do a poll and everyone votes and they play songs and respond. People can also make donations that pop up with their names. It makes the subscribers and the creators feel more connected to one another and have a good time chatting with each other, having a good laugh and support one another. The people are from all over the world. It is a good way for Patrick and George to make some extra money too! Regarding the heart notifications, I see channels with many more subscribers still acknowledge the comments especially if under 100 comments but often many more too. These are channels that George and Patrick have mentioned before so I would hope they see that. We are trying to encourage them and they are asking us questions, requests etc. It is important to show appreciation for the followers doing so, taking care of the channel as you mentioned. I think they have all the ingredients of success and I know they are disappointed that views have been down but it is the same on other channels too. People have gotten back to life after covid and they move on if they are not getting something from the channel. I do hope they do the request you put in back in December. I thought it odd that they did not wish their followers Happy Holidays unless I missed it (I was worried about them) or honor any artists that have passed recently. That is unlike them. Perhaps they have some other challenges going on (they are young and learning) but they certainly have loving subscribers that would understand if they just let us know. In the meantime we will continue to support them and will celebrate when they hit the 50,000 mark and beyond! They are dear to me as I lost my own two brothers suddenly (who also loved all this music) so Patrick and George are filling a bit of that huge void for me right now. I know you care a lot for them too. Thank you for your comments. It is good that we can communicate like this.☺

Thank you for your lovely long message, I'm so glad you read my message and we look at things the same way, don't we? I've been on a few livestreams but not reaction ones. I have seen them and I think they are a great idea. No, you didn't miss George and Patrick wishing us Happy New Year etc, it didn't happen and I have to say I was disappointed because they did it in 2021 and 2022, but maybe they were just busy. The thing is, in 2021 and part of 2022, we had lockdown, restrictions because of Covid and I think the guys had more time to spend on their channel. I was getting frequent messages from them on Patreon and it was great, and you just felt part of the channel and that you were making a valued contribution. It's the same with the red-hearted comments, it makes you feel good that your comment is appreciated and again you feel valued. However, things have changed dramatically, life getting back to normal from Covid, and the guys resuming their normal lives. Unfortunately that means they don't have the same time to spend on their channel, so when you're used to something, you really miss it when it stops, ie the messages just stopped and I hardly get any now, and I really miss it. As I said, I'm still waiting to hear about my request, I just thought it would be a nice start to 2023, however, I'm sure they will contact me soon. Yes, I do care about them, they remind me of my nephews, I don't see much of them as they are in Manchester and I'm in Scotland so I love being part of BroAction. I was worried about George and Patrick over the Christmas and New Year period as there were no reactions, nothing happening, I sent a few messages but I haven't heard anything. As long as they are okay, that's the main thing. You and I, Jules, along with thousands of others, are very loyal supporters, been part of this channel for two years and we just want their channel to continue to succeed, ie get a lot more subscribers. I already suspected, now I know for sure that you guys are reacting to sound AND video!
IMO (and as discussed by yourselves), video sometimes doesn't help when listening to music. In fact, it even can distract from the music and it surely influences your otherwise purely aural experience. I'm not saying this is bad or good, but it's different, and so I kindly ask you to:
    - also show us the video (possibly in a corner or so), so we know what you're reacting to and can share your experience
    - at least SAY if you react to sound or to video in future reactions.
Besides from that, thumbs up to you guys, I love your channel! 🙂

Chic . . . it's a French word. The way it's pronounced is like the word cheek, but replace "ch" with "sh" (i.e., sheek).

Love that band Frank. I am hoping they see requests in these comments but they don't tag us with notification hearts anymore so not sure.

@@Jules-um4yy Exactly. I’ve felt for awhile now that they don’t bother with the comments anymore. I know it must be time consuming for them and they probably just focus on the patron group of people who pay. I’m not one of them. I’m to the point now that I’m done requesting any reactions from them. It’s a waste of time. I do wish them luck with their channel and really enjoy their reactions. And I’ll continue to visit to see the latest song they’re reacted to, but I’m done making requests because I’m convinced that they don’t read these comments anymore. So… there’s no point. I remember when they used to at least acknowledge a comment with a heart emoji, but they’ve stopped with that. They continue to ask that people make comments and suggestions, but not sure why if they don’t bother reading them anymore.

@@M00159 Frank, I found your comment very interesting, as I've been wondering about this myself recently. From what I can remember, they stopped 'red hearting' comments in early 2022, it's such a shame. Can I just say, I'm on Patreon and they don't just focus on us, I can assure you, I donated for a special request in December, hoping they would do the reaction in early January (nice start to 2023, I thought!) but I've heard nothing, no acknowledgement, no reply to my messages, so, I'm assuming they're busy with other commitments. I hope they do still read all the comments but like you, I'm not sure. You're right, reading comments, 'red hearting' them, answering questions etc is time consuming, but isn't that what running a reaction channel is all about? I love this channel, I've been subscribed since January 2021, I've seen lots of great reactions and I think George and Patrick do a fantastic job, and I suppose it must be difficult dealing with everything. The thing is it's really gratifying to have your comments liked, questions answered, recommendations acted on etc, so, we'll see what happens this year. 😊

@@Jules-um4yy Hi Jules, just been reading your comment and also the comment by Frank Batiste. I've replied to his comment and I just want to say that I agree with what you've said. It's been months since they 'red hearted' our comments or replied to comments and you're absolutely right, we don't know if they're reading them or not but I really hope they do. I love this channel, I love George and Patrick's reactions to some great music, I can appreciate that reactions etc takes a lot of time and effort but surely that's all part of running a channel? Oh well, maybe things will change, we'll see.😊

@@annemaclean6634 Beautifully said. I’m glad I’m not a patron then. If I’m donating to the channel and still not even getting an acknowledgment, let alone a request granted, I’d be disappointed. I wish them all the best too, and I also really enjoy watching their reactions , but, as you said, part of the responsibility of having a channel ( I presume), is acknowledging your followers through the comment section. I made a request for a song on another guy’s channel once, and I was shocked when he not only granted my request, but read my entire request , mentioned my full name and then did the request right then and there. And afterwards, he also thanked me in the video for the recommendation. Now I don’t expect that to really even happen in the first place, but it was such a thrill for me. I guess it’s about changing one’s expectations.
