I was at that Sugar Bowl! We were expected to lose. Miami fans walked around New Orleans so confident and telling us to go home. When we won Miami fans were crying! One of best games I ever attended!

Miami was brash and arrogant when they faced Bama in 1992 as well, but went home with their tails between their legs.

Yeah....figured. I remember a few guys saying dumb things, course I'd bow up on them and tell them to say something else. Ignorant people say ignorant things. We ALL knew the Vols weren't going to Win, but BLAST Miami. We're still up on them, 2-1. So, let them continue to act the Clowns they are.

@@randyjordan5521Well, they were just being fools then. Bama's defense that year, with those 2 Defensive Ends that just CRUMBLED opposing Offensive lines. And that awesome safety that literally ran down that Miami receiver that was All MOUTH, ran him down, grabbed the ball, and took it out of his hands, like the punk the Miami receiver was.

I remember Ken Donahue was the defensive mind that Tennessee had in 1985 when the Vols crushed Bo Jackson and Auburn, and then whipped Miami in the 1986 Sugar Bowl. Some of my fondest memories of Big Orange football.

Coach Donahue was in Little Lot Tennessee to sign my Dad back in 1958, Dad always had good things to say about Coach Donahue...

I remember how shocked everyone was after Tennessee put this beat down on Miami. Nobody was happier than Penn State.

During the 87 Fiesta Bowl, they talked about how Paterno hounded Tennessee to get the game tape from this game the year before. They didn't give it to him, but he got it anyway, and used it as the blueprint on Testaverde. Worked out ok.

I lived in Nashville that year. This was a very good team and by bowl season nobody was playing better. Miami found out the hard way.

As an Oklahoma fan, thank you Vols! That win (along with OU beating Penn St.) helped us win the National Championship

Amazing to see how much the game has changed from what it was in the 80s. Players from this era were tough as nails, but these offenses are archaic. Keith Jackson is SOOO biased against the Vols. These officials are blind too. Didn't really matter though. The Vols showed up to play this day.

Miami's offense, while not great on this night, was very much ahead of it's time back then. They were extremely innovative at the time.

Seeing all these old-time volunteers brought a smile to my face. I had forgotten how good we were back in 1986. This was definitely one of my favorite all-time games for Tennessee.

Miami getting off the team bus with military style uniforms thought they were going to blow out the Vols. Arrogant! This game showed exactly with type of players Jimmy Johnson recruited. He spent most of the time keeping this bunch out of prison… Tennessee humiliated That bunch from Miami.

Came down from Minnapolis and had to sit among some Miami fans. Received all sorts of hell before kickoff and much of 1st quarter. Guy sitting next to me was one of the worst. He got up at half time. I was waiting for him to cpme back but he never showed up for the rest of game.

#21 for the vols said Bennie blades…you are fast..but you ain’t THIS fast lol. Miami should have spent the week practicing and less time lobbying how they should be the champs if they won because they had beaten OU. Tennessee beat dat AZz.

I have a quick question for ANYBODY...with about 6 minutes left in the game, Gino Torretta came in the game at quarterback, which threw me off. This is first of 86. Testicleverde still had another year, and lost to Penn State...just wasn't thrown a beating like this game. Then Steve Walsh for 2 years. Then Craig Erickson for a couple years. THEN...Gino Torretta STARTED as quarterback!!! What the hell?? How's he playing in the 85 Season, Sugar Bowl game...Then the STARTING Quarterback....7 or 8 years LATER???

Jimmy Johnson's Hurricanes loses the Sugar Bowl thereby opening the door for Barry Switzer's Sooners to win the natty..Johnson leaves/ gets fired from the Dallas Cowboys after winning 2 straight Super Bowls thereby opening the door for Switzer to replace him and win the Super Bowl 2 yrs later....🤔🤔🤔
