Who claims the the 1992 ALABAMA Team was UNDERRATED ? They went DORMANT for another 12 years after 1992 until Nick Saban arrived in 2006.
The 1992 will probably always be my favorite Alabama team. I was a young guy living in Oak Ridge, TN about 10 miles from Knoxville. So I was one of few Alabama fans in my town. I was a die hard supporter of Alabama. This team was so much fun to watch. The defense was just phenomenal. The book ends Curry and Copeland. I remember that game because at the time I was working in the press room at Quad Graphics Inc and we were watching the game and Sports Illustrated had a hold on printing their weekly mag till the conclusion of the 1993 Sugar Bowl. When Alabama won, that specific weekly Sports Illustrated edition was the most printed in Sports Illustrated magazine edition in their history. We literally printed 10 times the volume of their weekly mag and at that time their weekly mag volume was 1,000,000 print a week for news stand, not counting their weekly subscription. Then we printed Sports Illustrates specials on Alabama's dream season on the road to the national title. Just to put Alabama winning the national title in to perspective, no other NCAA division 1 college football team ever even came anywhere close to the Sports Illustrated print volume on game day as when Alabama won the 1993 Sugar Bowl.
Sadly, way too many people leave them off the list of 'Best College Defenses Of All Time'. They're definitely Top 5, at the LEAST. Anyone who says otherwise wasn't alive back then or just plain biased.
My Alabama football mentor, Bill Dixon took me to my first Alabama game on November 1, 1975. Alabama beat Mississippi State 21-10 in Jackson, Mississippi. I was eight! After finishing up playing my college football years, I was finally able to shed my own pads and follow Bama football for the next 15-20 years...and this game was one of the best. Definitely one of the most incredible games I'd ever watched in the Superdome in New Orleans. I had four tix for the game, gave two to my brother (and yeah, I gave him the best two...2 seats on the 40 yard line up one level from field level) and I took my favorite end zone seats. From Jay Barker, to Antonio Langham, George Teague, Sherman Williams and quite possibly the best college defense with bookends, Curry and Copeland I'd ever seen in my entire life. After all that smack that Miami and their fans brought with 'em, ( the loudest and most foul mouthed fans I'd ever had to watch a game with) well, they all would've been much better off had they just kept their mouths closed and stayed home, lol. As a matter of fact, as much trash talk they gave before the game started, about seven minutes into the 4th qtr...all that green and orange was making an early exit for home while Bama fans were already singin' Sweet Home Alabama and givin; the 'Canes the loudest Rammer Jammer we'd ever heard. We beat 'em up one side of the football field and back down the other and that nasty Bama defense made Gino Torretta, the Heisman winner, look really bad...REALLY BAD! He was frustrated all night and his flashy, all-world, receivers were dominated by Bama's defensive backfield. If we didn't make the INT, our DB' would let 'em catch it, then strip it and run back the other way (y'all remember that play). What an awesome year 1992-93 was for Alabama football. On our ride back home to Alabama, I'll never forget the huge homemade sign some fans in Louisiana made and draped off the overpass on I-10, "HURRICANE SEASON'S OVER...THE TIDE JUST ROLLED IN!" I'm thankful for a lot of blessings the Good Lord has given me in my life but being born to lifelong Bama fans as parents who lived for and loved Alabama football, I'd say the Good Lord definitely smiled on us all, especially that one unforgettable night in Louisiana :) Roll Tide!

Two things that always stick out for me with this game. First was that in a media session before the game, Michael Thomas said that Alabama was too slow to keep up with them. He said the slowest guy on Miami was faster than the fastest Alabama player. Keep in mind Thomas was supposed to be the fastest Miami player. We all know how that worked out when his punk ass was run down from behind by Teague, one of my all time favorite memories of a Bama game, even if it didn't count in the end. Second, Miami was an 8 point favorite, and I took quite a few bets at work straight up, refusing the points because I was certain Miami would be clueless against a real defense. I must disagree with this. While yes, this was a great performance by our D, and my single favorite Alabama victory ever, there is nothing that can compare with the 21-0 blanking of LSU in the 2012 BCS title game if one is talking defensive might. LSU only crossed midfield once (and were promptly driven back across midfield). The Tigers managed only 92 yards the entire game. I have truly never seen anything even close.

This was in my third year at Western Carolina! Was visiting family here in Pennsylvania on my Xmas break and enjoyed every second of this one! But nowadays I can't stand Bama almost as much as I couldn't stand Miami then
Miami did too much trash talking leading up to this game. When you diss Alabama too much...I feel for you. See the Alabama/Georgia Black-out game for example # 2 of excessive disrespect.
Daniel Kelegian Lamaar had mentioned in one of those 30 for 30 (or whatever) on ESPN that this game left him incontinent for close to a week after this fiasco. He had had at least four uncomfortable instances in public that left him humiliated. Said these were places where he was a 'regular' and was beloved, but afterwards, was afraid to show his face after the messes he created. Damn shame.
Gene Stallings is the "for gotten coach" When fans, reporters etc.. Talk about Bama they forget the success Gene had. He was like on a average of one game a year lose, At one time Bama had won 37 or 38 games in a row, Jay Barker only had two lose's as a starter. Stallings was the closet's thing to BEAR. Looks, Talk and the coaching part
+auburnsks Jay Barker had four losses as a starter. Alabama went 8-3-1 in 1993; they lost to LSU, Auburn, and Florida in the SEC championship game (they tied Tennessee). The NCAA says they lost ALL of their 1993 games due to forfeiture from probation, but they really just lost three games the old fashioned way--having fewer points than the other team when the clock hit 0:00. Additionally, they lost to Florida again in the 1994 SEC championship game (their only loss that season). I can't speak for Alabama fans, but I certainly haven't forgotten Gene Stallings. I love defense, and Stallings had some of the best of that decade... and one of the best of all-time.
Jay Barker only lost 2 games as a starter. He first loss came in 1993 against LSU. Jay suffered a season ending injury against the Tigers, and did not play in the two losses against Auburn and Florida in the SEC championship game. The only other loss, and the only loss in which he played from start to finish, was a 23-24 defeat against Florida in the 94 SEC championship game. The 93 LSU game broke Alabama's unbeaten streak at 31 straight games, but the winning streak at 28 straight games, was snapped with a tie against Tennessee, earlier in the season.
Yeah, Barker started the Auburn game. He missed the LSU game with an injury that he sustained vs Ole Miss. David Palmer started the Miss State game at QB, but Barker took over on the second series, then was injured in the 4th Q against Auburn in 1993. Yes, his second loss was Florida in 1994, a game in which he also played injured.
14:25 is actually incorrect and Bama did not go on to win "30 of next 33 games since starting 0-3 in 1990". They lost to Florida in 1991(shutout loss) meaning Bama won 29 of 33 since starting 0-3 in 1990. ABC Fumbled that one😂
The greatest single play ever seen on defence when Alabama ran down the Miami player and then took it from him and turned backup field with it a shame there was a penalty,,
17:13-18:11-19:35: I love how Gene Stallings let the fellas have some fun👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿 Those celebrations would have all been penalties in today’s College Football and Teague would have been ejected today for just taking off his helmet🤦🏿♂️🤦🏿♂️🤦🏿♂️🤦🏿♂️
At 9:50. Officials screwed up the enforcement of the USL against Alabama. Being a dead Ball foul AFTER a first down had been obtained, it would have reset the chains to be 1 and 10yds to go, not first and goal. Furthermore, the evidently missed some type of foul against the kicker on the field goal. It was had to see, but it looks as if the defense player may have done a grab and twist.
This game was played when I was a year old. We were at my cousin's watching the game, I started getting fussy so my mom put me in the car. Alabama was doing well while we were driving. So my mom just kept driving until the game was over out of game superstition. Bama won. That was the story I've been told about the 92 bama national championship game. It's a good story.
I'm often told the story of when I was 4 years old, playing in the living room floor while my Mom, Dad and a couple of their friends were watching the 1985 Iron Bowl. When Van Tiffin kicked the game winner I was so distracted that when they started jumping up and down, cheering and yelling, I started crying because they scared the crap out of me. So my Mother picked me up to calm me down and noticed I had wet myself a little from being startled. lol You and I are living proof that when they say, "you're born into this", they're not joking.
This was the best team of the 1990s, not 1995 Nebraska. This team would have stopped everything Phillips, Frazier, Green and Mackovicka did. I have Bama winning that game 9-6. The husker's defense was no better than Miami's defense and this Bama defense is many times better and more talented than the Florida and Miami defense Nebraska faced in 1994 and 1995. Bama also had a better running game than both.
Yeah, twice. They won the 2002 Rose bowl to win the NC and lost the 2003 Fiesta bowl to Ohio State for the NC. However, this game definitely seemed to take the swag out of Miami for nearly a decade after.
I was in Nola that week, & the Miami players were really showing their asses. Very hostile to the Bama players. That night was insane! Teague was possessed that night!
Hell that team was so good I could have played quarterback and game managed a victory ,absolute studs at the running back position ,the o line opened up holes and they were in the secondary before the safety knew what hit em ,thx goodness for that cause Barker lol well could pass his way out of a paper hat
You're full of more shit than a Christmas Turkey. The offense was built around the running game and not the passing game. The few times in this game that Barker tried to pass Miami was all over him. But when the offense did block for him when he passed the football he was accurate. Case in point, Tennessee '93, Georgia and Miss.St. in '94.
Bebes was furious that Alabama had hired Bob Bockrath as AD, who had a rap sheet of NCAA shenanigans. He and that asshole Andrew Sorensen, UA president, hatched a plan to break the grip of "Bear's Boys" on the football program, and Stallings took an early retirement. The apocryphal quote was, "I could have coached another six or seven years, but there was no way I was going to work for that sonofabitch Bob Bockrath."
There you have it ladies and gentlemen. This is the year Alabama destroyed the Miami Hurricane football team sending them reeling and never recovering again. How was there that week it all through the week Miami fans we're walking up and down the main Boulevard in Miami Channing at every Alabama fan, you wish you were a national champion. They were joking Alabama fans but we had no chance until finally I stopped one Miami fan just to talk to him. I asked him so you feel confident Miami will beat Alabama and he said of course where the baddest came in the land and I had to tell him son you're not going to like what happens because Alabama has been still is and will always be the college football team of all time and you're in for a spanking. Well alas it came to pass and I saw that same Gentleman on Bourbon Street later and he simply came up to me and said wow how did you know? And I simply replied to him that's easy son. Because we are THE UNIVERSITY of ALABAMA. The sooner the rest have you college football teams understand that the less you're going to be disappointed. Because we are the Big Bad boodie daddies of college football. BOOM !

Goal line stand in 79 was a great series of plays Bama held Penn state on the goal line for 4 downs and the man responsible for the 4th down stop was held by Barry Krauss. He even broke a peice of his spine (one of the ridges not a disabling injury) to stop Penn state's running back trying to go over the top and he collided with Krauss and couldn't get any forward momentum. That's how Alabama held Penn state in a 14-7 game for a national championship.

This game actually reminds me of GEORGIA's SHALACKING of Alabama last year in the 2001 National Championship game # It SUCKS doesn't it ???
@@adamforman606 😂 someone’s salty because their team is no longer relevant at all…and show ZERO signs of being relevant anytime in the foreseeable future😂😂
@@chrisgolden1162 BAMA wasn't RELEVANT from 1994-2006 ( 12 years they did NOT WIN a National Championship ) until Nick Saban arrived in Tuscaloosa. BAMA will be IRRELEVANT AGAIN once SABAN is gone. They have LOST their last 3 out of 4 National Championship Games ( Slaughtered Actually ) and GEORGIA is the "NEW KING'S of the SEC".
@@adamforman606 lol whatever makes you feel better…. And even when you claim Alabama wasn’t relevant, we still had multiple 10 win seasons and an SEC championship during them time you are referring to…. Meanwhile Miami is struggling to finish over .500 😂😂 stay salty
@@adamforman606 oh yea…and your maths wrong… it’s 2 out of last 4 national championships…beat Georgie in 17.. lost to Clemson in 18… beat Ohio State in 20…lost to Georgia in 21…. So angry and salty can’t even get elementary math right 😂😂
Bama taught them hurricanes how big boy football is played. Class and poise is something Miami never had. Move over the real champs are here. Ramma Jamma baby
smoothcollected and Miami has still yet to win the ACC
Best moment is at 19:19. George Teague!
I was on Johnston atoll on the Pacific watching this game my friend(George allen)may he R I P was from florida and a huge miami fan. There were only 2 bama fans on the entire island . We held our heads high for about 3 weeks.
ROLL TIDE. Btw. The island is now uninhabited great army times there were had there. R I p Johnston island
Teague was always big in big games
Bama put on a defensive clinic that night.
Alabama showed that physicality matters most. Great game.
And class.
We're still the boss, one of my favorite BAMA championships , probably my most favorite, I miss Kieth Jackson RIP, that team was awesome, the defense especially, Teague shut up Lamar Thomas, at least for awhile, ROLL TIDE ROLL, nobody does championships and dynastys Better
Let's not forget how bad Bama was between Stallings and Saban. Remembering that really helps to appreciate what Bama is doing now. This may never happen again. Hell, the fact that we've had both Bear Bryant and Nick Saban at Bama is almost unbelievable as is.
@@JSchaffer214 if you're s BAMA fan you would know BAMAs the only team with multiple dynasties and championships, and in our bad times I knew someday we'd be back to winning championships and beginning new dynasties history, were not has beens like USC, Nebraska, Miami etc they may never be BACK nd as well RTR
Teague was an ATHLETE
No.....Teague was a BEAST!
We live this way..accept how we love this...
That hurricane was reduced to a sad sad tropical depression, ROLL TIDE ROLL
This is an awesome video, thank you! Love hearing the pregame stuff. Nice context. Roll Tide!
David Palmer was a beast..quarter back an running back plus special teams...Birmingham stand up.we in hear🏆
The most dominate defense in the history of CFB.
Ahhhh... that '92 Defense... best I've ever saw at the College level. I went to high school with Tommy Johnson #10. I remember watching him have a whale of a game that night.
0:07-0:48-0:55: 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
I was there. I was 17.
Artty 1975 who were you going for
This was in my third year at Western Carolina! Was visiting family here in Pennsylvania on my Xmas break and enjoyed every second of this one! But nowadays I can't stand Bama almost as much as I couldn't stand Miami then
But I despise Ohio State worse
Wow... I'm just now realizing how talented the '92-'93 Alabama team was!
Teague's got the ball
I have been a huge Alabama fan since I became aware of life long ago and those four word's are my favorite single moment in Alabama Football history
Miami did too much trash talking leading up to this game. When you diss Alabama too much...I feel for you. See the Alabama/Georgia Black-out game for example # 2 of excessive disrespect.
Lamaar Thomas did not sleep well after this game.
Damn shame.
BourgeoisBuffoon Interesting.
+BourgeoisBuffoon Thomas and Teague were teammates on the '97 Dolphins. I wonder if this ever came up between them...
Yeah, forgot about that! I'm sure that still didn't keep Thomas' mouth from running about something or other...
The South and traditional America defeated the ghetto culture on this night. From a GA Dawgs fan.
+auburnsks he didn't smoke them non filtered cigarettes like the bear did!!
+RollTide He started in the Auburn game. I had forgotten about Birddork starting in the LSU and Florida games... no wonder they lost, lol.
Oh I remember this game. I was shocked at the outcome. I was expecting a 3 point margain going either way. Certainly didnt expect a blowout.
holtridge
Whoooaaaa Nelly!
Gino didn't know what day it was, when that defense got through with him.
Miami could not even score an offensive TD. How Sad.
Whoa Nelly. No one made college football more fun to watch then Keith Jackson.
16:37 Jay barker stepped out of bounds how the hell did the refs miss that lmao
Teague was a big as it gets
Covering the Celebrating in the Dome? Rick Karle, Brenda Ladun WBRC former ABC now FOX affiliate in Birmingham, Alabama.
God...when I watch this-I love every;lay
I was there! Awesome game!
Saw the WDHN logo, lol. I'm watching in Dothan
Best Bama Defense ever !!!!
So my Mother picked me up to calm me down and noticed I had wet myself a little from being startled. lol
You and I are living proof that when they say, "you're born into this", they're not joking.
awsome video
I love the intro...
I forgot how average Jay Barker was.
I still can't believe this game was that big of a runaway after almost 30 years.
I love the video but this isn't 'highlights' of the game. It is a condensed version of the entire game.
12:08 big 83 saved them from getting an unsportsmanlike penalty. I remember that happening.
My he football coach played for alabaster this he used to show us his ring all the time his name is Jeff foshee
Someone from the Dothan area uploaded this
Has Miami been back to the NC since this game?
Yeah, twice. They won the 2002 Rose bowl to win the NC and lost the 2003 Fiesta bowl to Ohio State for the NC. However, this game definitely seemed to take the swag out of Miami for nearly a decade after.
I was in Nola that week, & the Miami players were really showing their asses. Very hostile to the Bama players. That night was insane! Teague was possessed that night!
Roll Tide!!!
Could you imagine how it was in practice going against that defense?
...Wow amazing memories...We need another Sherman 'Shake....RTR
Roll tide
Miami's run defense sucked this game!
Case in point, Tennessee '93, Georgia and Miss.St. in '94.
Ready for 2021 baby Season opener
Letting Gene Stallings go when they did , was IDIODIC !
@dano Yeah, he retired. He was an extremely nice man.
They made Gino and Lamar look like they were in high school
BOOM !
Bama got us this time. Upload the highlights of the previous meeting between the U and the Tide though
Miami was heavily favored both times they played UA. As an FSU man, I hate the Canes. They are pure trash. At least FSU has class.
33-25 loss? Your point?
@@kevinmcdonald6979 His point is, those classic wins are all "The U" have left anymore. Unlike Alabama, they've fallen so far back that the people at the top can't even see them anymore.
Yeah, but this is the game where the loudmouth city boys got their asses handed to them by the polite, hardworking country boys. I'd rather watch these highlights, thanks. Roll Tide.
@@joeday4293 polite, hardworking country boys? Please bro. All those Alabama players wanted to be like Miami back then
Beatdown
Say what you want about Miami, I thought they were a bit soft that year compared to what Jimmy Johnson and Howard Snellenburger had them. Made me wonder what it would have been like had Johnson stayed in Coral Gables
Defense = GOAT
21 Point beat down at the hands of Alabama.
The greatest play in football history is when number 13 George Teauge runs down Lamar Thomas and takes the ball away from him and runs the other way if someone knows one better please tell me because I would really like to see it.
Should have been 21-6 @ halftime ! Final score should have been 42-6
george teague was the man
THIS GAME HAVE COUPLE FUTURE NFL. HALL OF FAME????
How about that Defense!
Miami didn't have a chance Give em Hell Alabama!
Loved the pik by Teague hi stepping into the enzone then later him running down and stripping the Ball from that stupid ass mouthy Lamar Thomas, too bad that play didn't count cause we were offsides, RTR
Cough roll tide
Great players and a great game. Rugged.
